I am trying to convince my wife that I need a fishing rig upgrade for safety sake. I currently have a little 12ft row boat which is fine for like two people my size but not so great for a family. What kind of rigs do you guys run? I am thinking something in the 14-16ft range, not too fancy, not for water sports, just fishing. Lawdawz, Grampy?

160grn Sierra Game king hand loads. Bonded bullets or Copper are the way to go if you do not want a grenade effect other wise anything in the 160grn family is good.

Anyone on here named Scott Allen?

Well to be fair, some of them are not intelligent enough to comprehend the point made. -

It seems like you guys literally take notes form anti's, when you can't learn the lesson that was offered try to discredit the poster. Has to be the dumbest accusation I have seen. If you don't like Mike, don't read his post's. -
That's another personal choice, easy way is to nock an arrow, draw, and have someone mark the arrow in front of the rest. It is possible to shot a 28 inch draw and a 28 inch arrow.

Yes and yes, the smaller the number the stiffer the spine.
-
Yes, more so at longer distances, lighter is faster in the beginning but has less energy down range.
-
Personally I would also go to a spine of 350-340. 400 is a hair light. Also, arrow manufacturers confuse folks with their numbers, they may call an arrow a 400 but that doesn't mean that's the spine.

And of course check this out for fun. http://www.carbonexpressarrows.com/shaft-selector

Hit the reset button, lol GPI in English means grains per inch, that is the arrow weight per inch of arrow. Say you find an arrow that weighs 10gpi, at 28 inches of arrow you would be looking at a weight of? ....280 grains. Then add on your BH or Field point weight, fletching, nock, Ect and that will be your finished weight. Choosing a GPI is totally up to you, I prefer heavier. My current set up is, Carbon Express Pile drivers 350 and a 100 grain head. I shoot 65# at 29 inch draw.

Do you ever worry about folks stealing your images? I have seen it happen more than once, some friends had pics of their dogs end up on a Tee shirt. My pop's puts his name on all of his somewhere.

I hope to head west in 2017/18, I promised Disney this year so no big trips for me other than a weekend in Maine maybe. -
Not bad if you like over exposed garbage. Keep at it and you might be half as good as Alloutdoors. I have seen better composition on the back of milk cartons.

Another tell tale sign are the droppings of the bird, chalk as it is known because it looks white like chalk on the forest floor. If you find an area they frequent you will see the chalk. That's the main way I know if the flight is on in the fall.

Young have already fledged and are moving out away from mom at this point, they are slightly ahead of normal this year due to the early spring.

Tracking is big in Maine just like the Adks, maybe a book from hunters in those areas would be helpful to you too. NFA, I got to see guys looking for tracks in Maine that drive hundreds of miles some days. They also work in crews covering more distance that way, I even saw guys communicating on CB radios. It seemed effective as I saw a couple hanging and in the back of trucks after just a dusting of snow. I was impressed to say the least.

Very interesting and good to see what happens to the birds, it helps drive home your cause. Well done -
With Woodcock its more about timber management, open fallow areas for mating and low growing shrubs that cascade like a fountain for nesting cover. If you go out in the early spring, March through May, you will no doubt hear and see male's do their Peent and flight dance. Don't worry about food source's, they will take care of that on their own. I love the taste of Woodcock, second only to Grouse. Its all about how you prepare it I suppose, I treat mine like venison.
-
I have never heard it called that but I do use that method at the longer ranges with the bow. 20 I aim dead on, well I try to lol.
-
Phade that's neat how the brows grew in towards each other, cool buck.

This year I did a bit more clearing of mid size trees and left the top of my land unmowed in hopes of helping to provide some nesting habitat for Woodcock. The woodcock did nest and hatch and today on the way to my neighbors pond we came upon three separate Gouse hens with a whole bunch of hatchlings! All within a short ten minute walk, good thing my dogs are all trained and obedient because it surprised my son and I to see them. We leashed them up quickly and made it to the pond for some training. That is the first time I have seen Grouse that small and that many, I would guess there to have been somewhere near 30 young chicks, just old enough to fly. It has been so rewarding to have small changes work out, first the Woodcock and now the Grouse. All in my back yard!
