  1. It was a heck of a weekend, we were on birds both days and saw more when we went back out today for round two. Lots of gobbling today all day and yesterday morning early. I think WNY is officially hooked on Turkey hunting. I'm done for the year with temps set to hit the 80's this week. I worked 18 birds this year, my son had a fantastic youth hunt and season with me and this weekend capped it all off. Till next year!
  2. I got seven turkeys today, way easier this way.
  3. That's neat that you thought to write it on the wish bone, wish I had thought of that. I have been Turkey hunting for 24 years now, started when I was 12, I cant tell you what year I killed my first or how old I was but it was early on. Maybe '93, I do remember the first couple of turkeys I killed like it was yesterday though...ahh memories. I also wish I had kept track of how many birds I have called in, I have always been the caller since I was @13 and I have called in so many for others I can't remember.
  4. True, I just hate pine pitch to much lol
  5. Good job making them work, I had mine helping splitting and stacking fire wood. As they get older they enjoy helping more, I try to teach them that hard work gets rewarded so last night I took them out to eat. I tell you its nice to have help with stuff like that, it makes it go so much faster!
  6. I hate pine, its messy, and pops when it burns. I'd rather burn my hard wood, lol
  7. Good luck, find the right trainer not just the one who will take her in. I went all the way to Canada to learn and get training done right the first time around. I run Griffons, pm me anytime you want to train.
  8. Same here if not a bit earlier but I don't have to drive more than 5 mins to hunt. I'll be out in the later am with the kids tomorrow. Can't wait, we are hoping his lil sis is a good luck charm.
  9. I wasn't joking when I said I don't have a website lol. I know I made it seem like I might have a site, I don't, yet. It's coming down the road if/when we start our breeding program. We had a set back with our female recently when she decided to eat part of a Kong and get it lodged in her intestine. $4000 later and we are back on track although her cycle is off now. Navhda is great for beginners and socializing, or people who like testing their dogs. I would go to training days but I don't have the time to dedicate a whole day and then some when I can train when ever I want here at home. I have an endless supply of free pigeons down the road and will set up to brood game birds soon.
  10. Also here is the Navhda chapter Ted is a big part of, http://www.sacnavhda.comlots of great folks in the chapter.
  11. That's Ted, not near Cobleskill but a darn good trainer with a long list of fine dogs he has trained.
  12. So basic training I'm guessing? Quartering the wind, recall (whistle commands)Steady to flush and fall, what about force fetch training. Give this guy a call, I'm not vouching for him just passing his info along. http://mountainviewpreserve.com/training.html If you want to drive up to me (Charlton, NY) I would be willing to see the dog and possibly train it/you for a reasonable fee. I don't have a fancy web site, but I do have a passion for gun dogs.
  13. What breed of dog and what are you wanting trained?
  14. I live in Charlton, so out 67 toward Amsterdam. I grew up on Maple ave in Ballston. If I decide to go I'll shot you a PM.
  15. I'm not far from there, maybe 15 mins. 3D shoots are fun, I don't go to many any more but when we did we didn't even keep score. I think we had just as much fun finding lost arrows.
  16. Cheap skate..lol That price is close to what I paid for my A5, (shhh don't tell my wife she thinks they all cost that much).
  17. Larry, it's way easier to just go buy a new gun.
  18. I switched to a Rip cord Ace over the winter, I like it because it has micro adjust. Of course I set it up and paper shot it and didn't have to adjust anything. I had no good reason to switch away from the WB, I just felt like it.
  19. I'll trade you a turkey hunt for a deer hunt, come east young man....
  20. I took a quick look and couldn't find any nasty comments towards you papabear, perhaps there is more to this? I enjoy your posts about your dog and grandson, I can tell you are very proud of both.
  21. Strange, I live in Charlton and there was never a drop of rain. You are in Schenectady right?
  22. Dead silence until @10 and then we had one come storming in to about 80 yards where he hung up on a field edge. Oh well.
  23. Had one hammering until fly down then nothing, I took a peek and saw him in the field behind us where we can't go. We're going to sit tight and see if he wanders our way. Last I saw he was heading in the wrong direction.
  24. Heavy fog this morning, heading out in a few. I'm expecting a quiet morning as the hunting pressure has increased in the area.
