congrats on the hero thread. I agree- it will pass soon. Why? Because the DEC want deer numbers as low as possible. What better way to accomplish that than a group of selfish tail following fools with not even a scrap of conservation ethic? Too closed minded to know, or notice, until its too late. I'm not an elitist archer, I am an elitist hunter who got here through giving a crap about the animals, the environment and the activity. If you cared- your contribution would be closer to comparing your crossbow to a rifle not to that of a vertical bow or admitting the lack of dedication and vigor able bodied who want crossguns have.
-
I've got a great idea- I'm going to talk about things I don't know about to justify my wants. Hmmm let's compare two different mechanical vertical bows to justify a string propelled projectile gun because I want one. Genius! Why do true archers dislike crossbows? No idea. I dislike able bodied folks who prefer them. Why do you ask? Because they're most likely the same shysters that ruin gun season through unethical slobbish behavior and now that same fraternity wants to corrupt the remaining season It's an opinion- you don't have to like it..... But at least I justified it. Why can't you just be happy with trashing all of November? Your illegal bait piles, deer drives and buck bombs won't work as well in October anyway. DEC Webless Migratory Game Bird Survey - Includes Doves
gjs4 replied to mike rossi's topic in Waterfowl Hunting
I have hunted waterfowl for 15 plus years and all I know of survey wise is the phone survey to get your hip number. That's it. I might receive another survey- I might not. My shot was at the DECs urge to use limited and non random surveying methods... Not much more than that. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

It brought a tear to my eye to see a few posters actually called out the dec for not having likely means or results to determine doe numbers. IMO- it will stay this way until the big - oops it's broken speech when numbers are crashed and coyotes move even further into lawns. I love some of the crossbow quotes. Let's bring Ohio stats in LOL. Try a one week gun season here and most of the pumpkin fraternity will have the heart attack they've been on the verge of anyway. Here is your prince crossbow folks- you want crossbows to compensate for the crappy gun season you're running from.... just to then make bow season the same for the same reasons. If the dec really wanted doe numbers down the sz gun season is always the answer- earn a buck, extra tags, get out of trespassing free vouchers....whatever. As taunted above w crossbows- if the early ml goes (and I think the clues are there) the repercussions w regard to pressure will lower the archery doe take even more.....and then the gun guys will be upset about that too Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Wolves kill 7 percent of elk in western state Wyoming

Got it& sorry about that. Glad we are on the same page. You're right on the double native too- between autocorrect and emotion my posts have been weak for grammar and translation lately. I need an editor. Lol -

The grand pooba, Jeremy Hurst, stated a few tales including that coyotes have a negligible impact in most areas of the state on deer numbers with regard to decline at last weeks deer talk. Thought you were there.... -
DEC Webless Migratory Game Bird Survey - Includes Doves

Stalked my profile? Haha. That's sort of creepy and flattering. My presence on this board can be a touch jaded but I'm sure that's been noted. Hunt quacks a couple times a year but a big goose Hunter. Throw in a woodcock/grouse jaunt and maybe even a crow hunt for good measure. Used to live for waterfowl but with my kiddos growing the big trips, multiple boats and dogs have gone by the wayside. Member of du and used to belong to delta, finger lakes waterfowl and others. I'm not a big trapper- just need to work on the coyote numbers in a place or two. -

Predators have their place and conservation should be more incorporated with anyone's appreciation and understanding of the outdoors. What percentage of our whitetail population gets killed by coyotes? Whether it's sport killing or not the predator prey cycle is a viscous one. At least the dec says they have no negligible impact? Just great- another survey we can't partake in unless we are "randomly" selected. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
My post was to propose a compromise. Though I am now inserting my opinion. It was not my goal- only a non archer would call a crossbow a bow- a 22 short and an ar-10 both shoot bullets from a firing pin strike too

Air rifle hunting for deer coming to N.Y. ?
gjs4 replied to 132 eight pointer's topic in Deer Hunting
Have we had a move of the senior members of the forum to make this a legal implement all year because the greedy bow hunters ruin everything yet? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Maybe the solution would be crossbows all seasons long for disabled, the young and the elderly. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Education Event- Deer Management in NYS
gjs4 replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in Greater Rochester Southern Tier QDMA
Remember guys these are the same great folks who stated the youth gun hunt would not effect deer behavior because they're so many small game guys out there The coyote is one of the dec s favorite tools Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
There is always something so ironic about how some spend days, weeks, months scouting....others days, weeks, hundreds, thousands in land work..... Others watch hundreds of hours in tv shows....many sit forever in stands full of hope....some want lots of deer other just one big one....the best and worst part of hunting is the variation in our input and desires. Most, especially in ny, do little to now prep, wouldn't know conservation or woodsman ship if it b slapped them and just show up to take. To me, the guys buying or sight in in guns the night before gun opener aren't hunters and take more from this than I can stand. Being one of the lucky recipients of the dec s bs injection in Henrietta- I'm not a hero as much as a dipchit and find no fault in those who know better than to show up for the beating. I do feel like it allows me to be better prepared for fights ahead and more intune w my own desires though. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Education Event- Deer Management in NYS

It's beyond obvious and safe to say NY will never provide the framework for my ideal deer season or yours. We all walk the qdm/Qdma/tdm road with high hopes that are continually deflated by our neighbors. Now that the obvious honesty has taken the precursor presence let me state why I care so deeply about this. I see the dec's mismanagement no only hindering my experience and that of my kids but further ruining the resource and activity. I'm a hard core mature buck chaser. I can struggle with a couple sits in a row where I don't see anything even though I know I target one deer, not deer, and seeing others is not likely to take place for what and where I am. Now throw in the temperature sensitive new Hunter, old guy, little kids.... Game over with nothing to retain their interest. Read about alt- his whole push was to save the understory of trees by killing all the deer they could- the one silver lining is it also kills the activity which keeps most in the woods... So the brown and down crowd flakes away fast. If you didn't note the dis concern for the groups thoughts on killing more coyotes due to the dec's social reAsons response- note it now. Hunters are the last group they need to please. Most will buy a license or show up n beatch but they won't go do meetings, put effort forth or do anything other than quit once the toy is broken. Our lack of group cohesion will allow them to run it into the ground....learn to build your ground well or 10 years from now you won't see any. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

I've spoke with him a few times. Let me sum up your conversation "Thank you, but you're wrong and I have the math to prove it" or thereabouts. He seemed to speak a little different at the meeting than per our phone and email conversations but it isn't hard to recognize there is a big level of self appreciation and accolade, as well as, the mirror must ones ability to hear others ideas...... -
Not what I was saying- if it was in your neighborhood and you had a fair chance- maybe but that's not the case. They prey on locations and times that conflict w likely attendance imo
-
And it's because of you we can't have nice things
-
If you don't vote- don't complain about the election. If you don't spend time gathering the facts- don't stake your claim of being right. If you're antihunting but hate hunting and use parks- you best be making donations. Way too many arguments on here or with hunting are based on personal wants and the number of years a hunter has in the game....not why it makes sense for the animals, the activity, or the facts to arrive at that conclusion. Lmk if that doesn't clarify my first attempt.

Didn't know it was a meet and great- but let's make a point for hellos at the next dec Hunter interchange. -
Per the qdma meeting the DEC is in favor with you. I don't agree with the crossbow deal (personally) but am posting that we as a group need have all things hunting in one pot. I find it so odd the DEC and legislators are different entities on the same topics with the hunter/game management group always being the low man. Then again maybe I should be thankful for that. Also wondering if this is so desired; what would you be willing to give for it to take place? As a group we all get railroaded with new regs without review and discussion. The common goal is to increase license sales but unlike some of the candidate speak...nothing is free. Would you still push for this if it was antlerless only, 5 points per side, etc? Lots of wish listers out there and hoping you can look at it from a different angle on occasion

I haven't topped 800 on survey posted everyone on FB, twitter and the forums..... totally agreed; shame on us. I think the state keeps us easy pray for we are so divided and lazy (referring to the masses). Most of my hunting fraternity embarrasses me here in NY. If you don't partake- you shouldnt have the right to squawk IMO. However- Jeremy asking for solutions to their created problems is total BS as well

If you don't know how to hunt deer a kill plot is a one and done venture. Best approach to such a deal is to plant a plot away form bedding that allows you to hunt stand along the way multiple times without tipping the hat to the deer. Kill plots= night time feeding (regardless of what you plant). The darn what you plant question is always a simple answer too...... plant what isn't there and is the highest desired for the period of time you plan to reap the rewards. Grains and sugars are what cold weather hunters want...mast trees are your best bet if you have the time
