i've shot in a summer league that basically went way over even IBO open distances. i had a fixed 4 pin sight (20,30,40, and 50 yards) for hunting and IBO. others had HHA or SpotHogg adjustable single pins. had to get an HHA dial so i wasn't shooting minute of lungs/8 ring for elevation. an example the final target in the championship shootoff was a ram down a steep ridge at what must have been really close to 82 yards (no rangefinders allowed). that's what i shot it for. i think out west they have a bow challenge that shoots longer range like that.

deer populations can vary wildly within a WMU. DEC can't manage deer at such a micro level. It's all the you and your neighbors at that point. i can almost literally go fill a doe permit on command during the regular gun season at the farm. we take more than the DEC target goal per square mile too. travel 20 minutes down the road, outside a QDM co-op, and you'd be lucky to just to see deer that day or sit every in a "good" area. you just do what you feel you need to on your little piece of the WMU and be happy over time.

This whole issue with 3d gun printing

i forget what channel it was on but it was showing how people of 3rd world countries made firearms with crude resources and methods to basically make very low quality but functional copies weapons we're familiar with like your AK, 1911, and others. they'd actually test fire them by walking out into the street and firing multiple rounds almost straight up into the sky above them. the whole idea is we think of gun control as only trying to prevent bad people from getting guns. this makes it easier and/or creates another avenue to allow a bad person to get a "gun". 80% lowers and the other examples are apples to oranges and require more effort and skill IMO. -
maybe the tags were removed for a canned hunt on a ranch however big? i doubt somebody would want to hunt something with a tag still in it's ear under the context i'm thinking. can't imagine some would live a few more years. they might die from antler infection, physical stress from the rack size, or maybe injured or killed from a more robust naturally bred deer capable of handling the elements and buck interactions.

definitely impressive knowing that can has 3 arrows in it.

different buzz words maybe but the same concepts have been around forever. i have a archery competition trophy that's so big it can only sit on a floor but still think minute of deer is a real thing.

who here tried to recreate the Sandlot movie baseball catapult?

my 2003 car had the receiver but the "lighter" part was just a plastic plug that looked similar to one. lol

if there was someone with john wick intentions would you feel any better letting them have a plastic guns? haha granted it'd be nice to have coaching from taran butler but keanu reeves was doing pretty good on a 3-gun course prepping for the movie. -

oh trust me they're high end. it's an R&D training facility for the military. sensitivity gets turned down when so many have to take off belts, glasses, or contractors have to remove their steel toe boots. i've spent 20 minutes with security making me walk through the metal detector over and over a couple days (dick security guard). once they wanded me the other they just had me walk through another metal detector that was turned down for contractors. -

many days i walk through "metal detectors" of some kind when i roll into government facilities. certain ones are more sensitive or scan differently than others. a regular polymer framed pistol would go off. a 3D printed plastic gun with just a couple springs and metal firing pin wouldn't for some of them i'm sure based on what i can walk through wearing. "ammo" isn't always detected either when you think outside a traditional deer hunting cartridge with brass case. not saying i'm really that worried or that it's going to lead to a large scale terrorist attack or whatever. if there's a will there's a way. no need to pave the road and make it easier. the firearms industry has strict standards for all kinds of reasons. i won't drink koolaid and stick to using real guns. -

doesn't have to be connected to the internet. my friends is done off his laptop that's blue-toothed to the printer. he can easily have something like specs burned to a CD and throw the CD into the in disk drive. boot legged copies of software wouldn't be updated and connected to the web. -
all i can picture is the wife saying dinner's ready and then a rhino scene reenactment from the Ace Ventura movie.

if you're skipping semi-auto and going for a full-auto build you'll have to consult the guy on the internet that made the full auto crossbow from wood and other things. i'd let him do the testing though. in one of his videos he almost killed himself by taking a ball bearing to the head testing another toy of his. -

so your receiver face is probably true but i think you should've used erector set pieces for the barrel. the heat is gonna kill ya during rapid courses of fire. -

think anyone boasting to something out there like this is just being an anarchist and pain in the ass. there's limited use for something like a 3D printed gun and none of it is really good. i mean they're less dependable, not as accurate, and in many cases are probably going to get some dumbass or individual around them hurt or dead from the gun failing. i don't think you can prevent the information from getting out there but shouldn't just let it be out there in mass either. equipment and software isn't that expensive and unobtainable. i know somebody that literally bought one and prints all kinds of stuff including firearm grips now. i still believe our first line of defense in places like court rooms, certain buildings, events, theme parks, and schools is a metal detector. larry posted in the other thread that security isn't perfect but why make it worse with undetectable guns. also crime with a gun is usually done with a stolen gun. i've known law enforcement to look to traceable things like serial numbers to figure out where the hell guns used in crimes came from. before some overly sensitive person on her calls me a Benedict Arnold of the constitution, i fully believe a law abiding individual should have the right to own any weapon at the governments dissposal. it's understood that you'd have to give up some privacy and jump through some hoops to ensure public safety. i don't take the idea of handing over a tank, SAW, or 50 cal mounted to a humvee to anyone lightly. shoot me down or stand with me but my opinion is just that and therefore not wrong. -
Putting in new food plots
dbHunterNY replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
in the farming community the choice to go to no-till is based on cost savings. you burn less fuel, no longer need a tractor with more HP required for plowing, and a bigger one in my mind is you don't have to pick rocks. you work a field deep only the first time when it's sod. for my whole life time i've seen plantings grow plenty well enough without no-till. i'm with stubborn1vt when we should be more concerned about all the chemicals we use than tilling up dirt too much. that's the reason we have all these issues like gluten free needs, celiac, and others. -
3D PRINTED GUNS
dbHunterNY replied to First-light's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
i think anyone putting something out there like this is just being an anarchist. there's limited use for something like a 3D printed gun and none of it is really good. i don't think you can prevent the information from getting out there but should just let it happen openly either. it'd only take one shot. machines aren't expensive. i know somebody that literally bought one and prints all kinds of stuff including firearm grips now. CAD is expensive bought there's a shit ton of businesses out there that have it. hell i have it open on my desktop right now at work. our first line of defense in places like court rooms, certain buildings, events, theme parks, and schools is a metal detector. -
some bows especially older ones don't have the most solid back wall and draw stops. the more spongy the bow is the more important form and repeatable anchor is. every setup is different but you want to keep as much back tension or pull against the string as you need but really not much more or fatigue will set in fast and/or you won't keep the pin from moving as much.

rick, any thoughts of going to bigger county fairs where reps aren't supporting legislation? kids can use a kiddy crossbow to pop a balloon and win some small prize or not if help is really ambitious. our Upper Hudson River Valley QDMA branch had got lots of interest and eyeballs on the poaching bill that passed at the three fairs we've setup at. i understand help is hard to find though.
-
its possible to over exaggerate the back tension. pull too hard into the back wall and you'll be inconsistent with to some degree left and right flyers. what i've found best is solid back tension to just keep the string or limbs nicely against the draw stops and enough to tighten up the floating pin on target. then use plenty of finger load on the trigger such that a very slight increase in back tension will make the release go off. many common releases don't have a crisp break and you'll actually feel the long travel in the trigger. it's pretty hard to ride it out with forcing it more than you should. still have to ride it out though and keep the trigger in motion until it breaks and shot happens. if that makes sense.

different studies have been done where they say aiming on target after 5 seconds will lead to everything getting worse in a hurry. mind and breathing can only commit for so long. drawing back and holding while waiting for it to come in is different person to person and pretty much fatigue related.
