  1. there's so many mods out there to get around the NY SAFE Act. I learn a new one everyday I'm at the rod and gun club next door. newest one that addresses safety issues with some of them when having a jam or similar malfunction is flipping a spring and dremel one of the pins. i forget the exact ones to for better reference, but it makes it into a repeater and not a semi-auto. each fired round had the slide locked back. you push the slide release button though and it loads another. it's a permanent mod that allows whatever features you want. even another accessory to add on that's a bulky lever positioned close to your shooting hand to more easily and quickly hit the slide release. still a slippery slope though as i'm not sure if it's a valid fix if you can just hold the button down and fire what is effectively semi-auto.
  2. i get what you're saying and agree, but the context of my post had nothing to do with the actual firearm. it's all related to owning a high capacity magazine. standard 5.56 mags can be used with a 458 socom without any modifications i believe. doesn't matter that your using it for only a 458. as is it'd be able to hold a function with more 10 rounds of 5.56/223. you don't even have to have a gun, just the mag itself is illegal. i'd think if it was stamped 458 socom and had a follower with a centered groove so that 5.56 rounds wouldn't align right in a double stack configuration to function then logic would say it's perfectly legal. not sure that's been confirmed though. it means a lot. only being able to load less than a handful of rounds into a mag doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy.
  3. i doubt i'd get anything from the NYSP call-in contacts worth a damn. i would ask LEO friends of mine including a trooper. i could ask the DA but he's got enough crap to deal with right now, all because our Governor and Schneiderman the sex crazed women beater were fishing for him. i'm not in any hurry to get one, though i probably should be.
  4. if you got one labeled 458 socom with an actual 458 socom follower do you think that'd fly or be considered a high cap 5.56 mag? never thought much of it until toying with the idea of getting an ar
  5. what do you use for a mag with the 458? not just a 10 rd 5.56 with a few 458 rounds in it?
  6. you beat me by one hour. damn work and more important things! it's effecting my life.
  7. TRU Ball has awesome customer support. I've called them up telling them it was my fault and lost a spring. they asked why i only had one. said it should've came with 2 (each of different weight) for the trigger. i asked if i could buy them and they said don't bother, we'll send them both to you free.
  8. change your decoy spread. few hens with no jake or set her down bedded in the dirt with the jake over her. move your setup a bit so it's not in the exact same spot. that's what i'd do.
  9. Been trying to scout. Haven't heard a single gobble since youth weekend. Any time I try to roost turkeys for chance I might be able to hunt in the am, it ends up being a group of hens. That doesn't bother me though. What bothers me more is everytime I can hunt it's pouring freaking rain here! Numbers seem to be soo low idk if I should even take a bird. 10. So last night I had sime combination of what's in the fridge. Just stocked the Cabelas cooler and we headed yo a friend's place. Pick your poison or not but gotta throwback some to make room for more. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  11. I saw that one Friday afternoon but wasn't sure and passed. I'll have to give it a go next trip. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  12. another ate a lead pill yesterday afternoon. count is onyl at 2 so far for this year. until hay season is here it's usually slow. i better get behind the gun more and actually get out there if that number is going to climb to anything significant. no time though.
  13. i've been procrastinating for years over getting the untappd app. i've forgotten names of more beer than i care to admit, from different countries too.
  14. Don't know how many will see this but it occurred to me that i've never posted about it. my parent's house back before they owned it around 1930 was the go to spot during prohibition to get boot leg beer and booze. it's all hardwood flooring with only loading bearing walls along the exterior. threaded rod under tension to reinforce the trusses. to clear the span that is twice as wide as a typical house build, to get a big dance hall of drunkenness. wife already sent me a picture of bottle of Firefly Sweet tea vodka and some Simply Lemonade for evening. Looks like i might be cruising on a beer or two of something nice if i can find anything. i'll post beverage pics later.
  15. no idea how the hell you might hunt them in that kind of environment. i'd be looking for what they prey on more than anything. look for edges and locations that would hold them. i'd hunt dawn and dusk with a solid idea of how to get where i was going.
  16. please don't take this as a personal attack or anything. i mean i don't know who the hell you are. you might very well be a guy i'd happily share a beer with any day of the week. that said the divisive horsesh*t that you typed and i made bold isn't doing the NRA any favors. i get that it can get emotional. not to seem insensitive to those who knew him, but justice scalia's death severely screwed legal efforts to get the SafeAct snuffed out to something rational and better. always seems you can never cover your ass enough being a legal gun owner. don't alienate your peers. we need more than just those who own guns on our side.
  17. heard they put a restrictor plate on it so now he walks sideways. hope it went well.
  18. that was it... sub cheeseburgers for tenders. it was still a serious amount of food though.
  19. first time i ate one i was drunk in Buffalo outside of UB at a place called Rochester Hots. I finished the whole thing. Went back after that sober. Got the same thing and was dumbfounded. Definite "WTF did I do and how did I eat all this?!" moment. I forget the combo of garbage throw in there. chicken tenders was one item though.
  20. if you're ever looking for something like that and can't find it. altamont company is a good source. their grips are nice and very cleanly manufactured. I got some for my Ruger. https://www.altamontco.com/
  21. found my seed from last year. usually to solve the germination problem i use small paper pots and plant a few seeds in each. then i pluck late germinating or smaller ones leaving one left in each. last year we got a late frost that screwed some trying to get a jump on things. i think this weekend i might get things moving along. extended forecast looks fine.
  22. boy do they have you fooled! their actually trophy guinea hens. ....now you know.
  23. oh man i can't watch. props to him for ditching the compound all together to pursue trad bow only.
  24. congrats to jason, jay, and TC. nice job guys! spectator in the office a lot this season it seems. been listening and watching from the back deck at the house a bunch of mornings but not hearing any shots or gobbles. birds are pretty scarce this year out this way. hope to get out this weekend.
