only way to eat shortcake is with a biscuit, vanilla ice cream, strawberries, and whipped cream on top. i'm not in agreement with fat free whatever on top of angel food cake.

sure dealerships would love to sell you something but they aren't all bad. tractor dealerships don't seem to be like car dealerships. those suckers will take you for all you've got. i'd go with what she said. they know. clutch bearings would make sense. but you'd probably feel play at the drive pulley. all I know is I had a good but old JD that came from a dealer. it would kind of overheat and shutdown. couldn't mow for more than 15 minutes. I got a CubCadet Z-force zero turn from a dealer and thing I feel will run for ever.

i don't know if they're dumb so much as knowing what they are with a lack of fear. it's not like any other solo predator is letting a hard antlered bull moose get that close and then getting in a tussle with it. i think we take for granted moose being game just doesn't realize we don't intend to run up to it and clamp down with our teeth like everything else.

Poaching Legislation Only Needs Floor Vote to Pass!
dbHunterNY replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Deer Hunting
i was focused on poaching but a lot of work went into it. i'm surprised it didn't move more or pass. it's still alive though. before session begins this coming winter (next year) i'd expect another push. not much you can do right now. -
that's as good as it gets right there. i've also seen one where the moose turns and runs at what shot him. meat eater episode and bowhunter tv both had great footage of moose close encounters.

Poaching Legislation Only Needs Floor Vote to Pass!

the correlation is this isn't a movie of noble knights and folklore with one battle ending the whole thing. it's the real world, politics, and public with individual agendas. unless your an idiot, nobody storms the castle if they're more than likely going to loose. trespassing is a close next but difficult based on "innocent" ignorance. baiting same thing but tougher. now suddenly an old lady using her social security check to feed the wildlife (deer) in her back yard because she cares about them leading into winter and likes watching them gets a big fine and possible jail time. now everybody says your the jerk that wanted it, despite she was in the wrong. reporting way more difficult, especially when DEC says we can live without it and their reporting methods getting overwhelmed during prime time when most deer hitting the dirt. Lowering the age was said because it's legislation that's already started and the precedent is already set throughout the country to lower it. the only leg to stand on for being against it is it's too much responsibility and too unsafe at that age. easily shot down with all the stats for the rest of the country and other spin you can put on getting your kids outside and involved in something other than "reality tv". -
sure there's some that would beat on they're chest and look down on others or similar crap. i don't post many deer here at all. two i can think of i've posted on here weren't really luck but partially so. lucky that specific deer showed up but both hunters i'm close to were in spot with likely odds of seeing a big deer. as in sightings when they were hunting it. not just i picked an area, NY county, or state that holds big deer. big racks are rare, maybe due to older age class not as prevalent, maybe above average genetics, or both. anything rare having to do with anything people do is more appealing. it's human nature. nothing to do with trophy hunting, tv hunting shows, antler restrictions, qdm, sponsorships, the brand gun your toting, or anything else. by far i think the hunters i know of probably including myself keep to themselves while keeping tabs on bigger deer the bigger deer around an area. otherwise the curiosity gets the best of some people. heck i don't think i've shot giant deer and i've had ridiculous things happen to me. people stalking your move and checking out your stand spot once you've hung it and left. sitting within sight of you (even in the woods), after you tell them where you were going. i've even been sitting in my own stand before daylight on private property and had a utv drive up to hunt there. lights lit me up in the stand, had an oh s&^% moment and quickly turned around and left. i mostly hunt out of a climber now for that reason. any big deer i know of has a schoolbus load of kids, nightly police cruiser, and/or half a township watching the thing. when you can seal the deal when others thought of it as a ghost it's an accomplishment.

probably not much different than raising pheasants. done that but being most of our habitat for them is hay fields that get cut each year in mass they never did well.

Had the pleasure of her company once. You should've seen all the bucks in rut begging to meet her! Haha I'll have to dig up a picture. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -
Poaching Legislation Only Needs Floor Vote to Pass!
dbHunterNY replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Deer Hunting
Good one is lowering universal hunting license age from 14 to 12. Leaves discretion up to parents but gets them involved sooner. There's a lot out there. Most just don't get attention to get any where. We'll see. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -

i'm trying to think and it might very well be the buck bomb aerosol can. used it once, very carefully, and still ended up tossing my gloves in the trash. i did recently buy the butt out tool but i've gotten talked into and it's supposed to be promising. i always thought of that as something fitting of this thread. in it's defense i have yet to use it. -

not sure how one acquires a milk crate if they need one but i've somehow got half a dozen and use them all. -
that mountain lion won't get away now! trapping seems to be a fading art. there's only so many things you can do in the day. hard pressed to start.

i'm a simple person.... shooting a 50 BMG is on my bucket list. I don't have to necessarily do anything productive with it. -
Poaching Legislation Only Needs Floor Vote to Pass!
dbHunterNY replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Deer Hunting
thank you to all those that called and made an effort. the bill has passed and will be going to the governor to sign into law. FYI if you're a poacher start saving your money now and maybe purchase a "Jail For Dummies" book. Also your worries of a buying a license will be over for a while. Already convicted poacher? just book a vacation somewhere nice or buy a small herd of cattle to feed your family. it'll be cheaper. -
SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
dbHunterNY replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
is it good to resurrect attention to something you hate?? lol not to burst your bubble but that's not exactly the truth. the bill is just as alive now as it has always been. this years legislative session is over but it's still a bill and ready for next years session to start. in a day it could make it out of committee. then it's quickly read 3 times to stand a real chance at reaching a floor vote. honestly it hasn't gotten much attention to do so. just the public back and forth. after next years session is when bills will die and have to be refiled and drafted. you don't want it rewritten either, because rewritten bills are stronger. it'll be interesting to see what happens after 5 years of voluntary restraint and education. it's easy to drop yearling buck harvest from around 70% like we've done, but i have a feeling we're not going to get much better at this point. when it doesn't change much, i'm not sure how the DEC will talk about it. there's only so many management tools in the bag and people will be looking for a "next step". DEC already burned the "no change" card when they openly told the public to expect things to improve. -
been raining on and off and i've been busy so i haven't checked it. everything except broccoli was up and doing alright. i keep nipping off buds to get more growth... then i'll let them take off. it was super dry and shocked them a bit in the beginning. i've since put in sprinklers to water the whole thing. i'll be out there this evening i'm sure.
