  1. I hunt with a recurve - some private and public. I want no special season - all 6 weeks with recurve, compound and crossbow is fine. And see no reason for a separate mz season either. 2 seasons - bow and gun.
  2. Or make the first 3 or 4 recurve/longbow (the tackle that started the bow seasons) only and the last part open to their distant cousin the compound and its fraternal twin the crossbow. Fixed it.
  3. They shoot from a kneeling braced position. Ones I met at the national shoots are every bit as serious as those shooting vertical.
  4. http://iboscores.com/results.php Do a search for shoot and class
  5. IBO does have a crossbow division. And the funny thing is, the "no skill required" crossbows always get outscored.
  6. 1st year better limit to a 100 yds or so.
  7. Greg's rep is every bit as good. I can meet you there some night or next Sunday for an intro if you want.
  8. Can I shoot them with a crossbow?
  9. Only when we run out of downstaters to take care of our animals - never happens though.
  10. Let nature adjust the carrying capacity to what it will support. Or start farming outside the fence as well as inside and act like it"s noble and the right thing to do.
  11. Scoring for NY hunters is weak how?
  12. I tried staying away from similar terms too but it seems they are sometimes needed.
  13. Great post Doc - it's all about selfishness and being lazy.
  14. I was asked about my experience so I gave it. Sarcasm does not change the fact that this new rule will be taken advantage of by those too lazy or inconsiderate to get permission from the adjoining landowners. And despite safety being the primary reasoning for the 500 ft setback, it will not change the fact that setting up 350 feet closer will cause more recovery issues. Of course if you have shot many deer, you may know this. To deny either of these will happen and not consider the fallout is just stupid - your choice of course.
  15. Bow killed over 40 deer - enough to know you can not predict which way they will run. And know enough hunters to be aware of the fact a good number will not even try - all that matters is getting the shot. I do hunt some small properties and I do set up closer than 500 ft. It's legal because I discuss with the owners before hand and get permission. And it's the right way to do it.
  16. Fact is shooting deer 150 ft from buildings rather than 500 ft IS going to lead to more recovery conflicts. Especially when recovery permission is not discussed PRIOR to needing it. These conflicts will not be a positive image for hunters. Hopefully those wanting to hunt within stones throws of peoples decks and dining rooms will at least have the courtesy to talk to them about recovery 1st.
  17. Wrong - that is exactly what you are doing. Do it your way or we legislate to ensure "correct" educated thinking.
  18. Habitat consisting of a good portion of landscaping is where we should manage deer for a hunting population? There may be pockets on LI of where it should happen but suburban areas aren't it.
  19. I'm against the 150 ft. But if it goes in, it needs to be for everyone including rural. And if it does, anyone setting up like that to me had better talk about recovery permission BEFORE needing it. That will not be allowed if they don't and maybe not even then.
