  1. Bubba - I'm with you. Just plain disrespect. I would never consider hunting a property that I did not have explicit permission for. Can't undestand the mindset that doing so - especially your case here - is no big thing. Makes me wonder where those saying so hang there stands and hunt.
  2. Need to consider recovery rights/permission when the deer ends up on a neighbor's property.
  3. Are you asking about scent reducers or scent covers? 2 different topics - 1 is impossible.
  4. .There is no right to retrieve law in NY. If the owner says no, then you can't go even with the DEC. Landowners rights prevail in NY.

    let off %

It's been here for 100's of years - crossbow.
  6. Eat lots of carrot's - it sometimes turns the skin orange.
  7. There is a mythical spot below the spine and above the lungs where an arrow can pass thru and do not damage.
  8. Spine is actually down 5 to 6" from the top of the back. Hard to say what you hit, but if it skipped off the spine, it most likely went thru the backstraps and there should be some blood somewhere on the arrow.
  9. Blanket statements don't work. I'll repeat: "Most farmers I know using nuisance permits also hunt and/or allow hunting. In fact, I cannot think of one of the several I know that don't. Only so many deer can be killed in the hunting season and sometimes it is not enough." And from Joe: the farmers I know do not hunt and only let some family members hunt thousands of acres... only those individuals get to use the permits... and really most of the farms around me don't even apply for the permits. Lots farms hunting alone is not enough. And bottom line is no one should be forced to allow anyone use of their land in order to protect their livelihood. So no - no strings attached.
  10. You can't deny this. You also never answered this question. So you claim I have issues for pointing out the truth stated in the article? You are right - responding without facts is a waste of your time.
  11. Which means either it hit above the spine or the deer was one of the lucky few that survived a high double lung hit. The deer was not recovered so it is impossible to tell which it is. That is the detail one can see with a little bit (not that much rally) of comprehension. No where in that article does he state that a void exists above the lungs and below the spine - no where.
  12. Was it in the chest cavity in front of the diaphragm under the spine? Was the shot from a treestand resulting in a downward angle?
  13. I just reread Wood's article and it says exactly what Sam states above. It does not try to claim there is an empty space that contains no vitals under the spine and above the lungs. So no, neither of us are claiming he is wrong in what he stated - in fact I agree with it. Need to work on the comprehension there pistol.
  14. Does Dr Woods state there is an empty space is the pleural cavity - the chest cavity behind the diaphragm? A great explanation from another site:
  15. Safety harness whenever leaving the ground hooked to a lifeline from ground up and back. Linesmen's belt when hanging a stand - far easier as well as 100 times safer.
  16. Yea - the kid could be using a crossbow!
  17. Geno - Currans is a great softwood pellet. Like I said, qualities vary greatly with manufacturers and sometimes batch to batch with some. Consistent raw materials is the greatest issue for some to having a quality pellet.
  18. Phade - $150 to 300 for pipe if you have none. $200 to 350 labor for someone certified/insured. If you are handy at all, self install is relativity easy. Having the stove checked and cleaned professionally if you have little experience is not a bad idea. Generally they will give you a tutorial as well.
  19. Pellets vary greatly in quality. Try a few bags of a manufacturer and see how they burn in your stove. Softwood actually can make the best pellet for density, btu's and lowest ash per lb. I use softwood or a blend - almost never a hardwood. Been selling, servicing and using pellet stoves for 20 years.
  20. Anymore then bowhunters knew the youth where out for 3 days.
  21. And small game hunters now have to share 2 more weeks of their season with 200,000 more people in the woods. And they are not the ones who tried to stop it or the youth hunt with cries of our season will be ruined and be unsafe to participate in. Or put out "red alerts". The bowhunters who did so where not representative of the majority of bowhunters in this state in the state. Only claim to be.
  22. Get a few kills AND recovery's closer under your belt first. I also believe your maximum range at game should be about 1/3 less then your effective target range ( the range at which you can hit the kill will the first shot every time. 60 yds on a target means 40yds in the woods at game.
  23. Thanks - didn't know the details. Makes good sense.
  24. Thought off duty where required to carry - could be wrong, but all I know do.
