  1. So did the prediction of a DEC "field day" come true?
  2. Greene - get rid of the link. Don't need that here
  3. No - it's the pick up driving, beer drinking, road hunting locals who go anywhere they want "cause I always hunted here" that bother me. Not looking for an argument or trashing locals, pick ups, or beer drinking. Just stating my opinion of course.
  4. Can't be - no AR in those wmu's
  5. If not vacuum sealing, wrap tightly with saran wrap (gets the air out) and freezer paper. Used packages over 2 years old still fine. Air is the enemy.
  6. Chances for a wild pig returning to a spot in front of a camera without bait are not high.
  7. I am saying it may work, but because it kills odors - not hides them. May be semantics, but one you can do, but the other is impossible.
  8. Wood smoke has bacteria killing properties that may reduce some odors. There is nothing that can hide one scent from another to a deer's nose. They simply process and smell both scents.
  9. Double load is different then leaving in the ramrod. The issue isn't that the 2nd load may ignite, but rather it creates a situation where the pressure from the 1st load increases from the added tight obstruction to the point the barrel cannot handle it and blows. Even if it doesn't blow, it can weaken the barrel and be unsafe down the line. Ramrods will add weight but must slide easy in the barrel and create far less additional pressure then a double load.
  10. I doubt if even 1/2 the gun hunters I know take part in drives anymore.
  11. What did the DEC say when you called to report it?
  12. How's the sponsorship application coming?
  13. Many would say bow season is ridiculous. Both would be foolish selfish statements.
  14. Shooting hours should be set for the worst conditions - not the best and they need to be hard numbers not left to judgement. On an overcast day in the woods, the current times are good. Does anyone need a deer that badly they need to push the envelope?
  15. What brand primers are you guys using with the BH209? Requires a hot primer - CCI and Federal (I believe) are the hottest. Can make a huge difference in grouping, cleaning and ease of followup shots.
  16. Would save a ton of money on equipment just using a club
  17. Foolish and stupid on the shooters part. Wonder if the hunters where charged with trespass as they couldn't be bothered with getting permission to track.
  18. The arrow staying in could have slowed the blood. With a hit that high, I'm betting he will be fine.
  19. Spine is way lower then many realize. Unless shooting almost straight down or at a severe quartering angle, it is almost impossible to miss the near lung and hit the far one. There is no spot in the lung cavity where you can shot below the spine and not hit the lung/lungs. And while rare, a deer can survive a lung hit - particularly a high one. Most likely shot threw the back strap above the spine. It's a muscle hit that will bleed, often a lot to start and then quit. Most survive. When they drop like that, it's very hard to see the actual placement.
  20. Great post Doc. Hard to believe how many hunters really project human emotions onto deer and other animals.
  21. 4" down is a good possibility of above the spine thru the backstrap. Will bleed a lot for a bit and quit as it is a muscle hit. If it was lower and is liver, it will kill but the time varies from less then an hour to 4 or more.
  22. Better description then the one we may or may not hear.
