    Delta Lake

I spent the day on delta lake nothing biting but had a great day. Weather was perfect nice lake, I'll be back.
  2. Congrats on all those that posted pic's. I'm like Doc I used to trap years ago. I still have my traps and would like to set a line when I get more time.
  3. Last year I was seeing between 13 & 19 deer a day. But not to long ago I would see over 30 deer a day. One bright note is that I see more and bigger bucks now.
  4. Thanks for the link. I don't think I'm going to even apply this year. I don't like the fact that the $ 10.00 is not refunded if you don't get one. I'll shoot one with the muzzleloader if I need to.
  5. What gets me is some of the ones that complain there are no deer are the ones that shoot as many does as they can. If you don't feel there are enough deer in the area go some where else where there is more deer to fill your doe tag. ( I'm not refering to anyone here, just people I come in contact with)
  6. Just remember NYS does not manage the deer herd for the hunter. They use hunters to manage the deer herd. They manage the deer herd to meet the carrying capacity of the land. That means things like vehicle accidents, crop damage, and property damage to residential area's are taken into consideration when making decisions on herd management.
  7. Great pic's. I hope you can take a pic of him in the back of your pickup.
  8. No, my rock is only two feet off the ground. ;D
  9. WoW I didn't realize they had hunter orange that long ago. LOL
  10. Back in the 70's and 80's it wasn't safe to hunt state land and now there are times when your the only one there.
  11. Sounds like you guys in 4f ought to get together at the coffee shop and meet.
  12. I'm glad I don't smoke it gives me more money to Hunt and fish.
  13. My princible deer rifle is a Remington 700BDL 270win LH with a 6Xwidefield Redfield scope. Bear Rifle is a Remington 700BDL 30-06 LH with a 4X12 rangefinder Redfield Scope. Muzzleloader is a Thompson center Black Diamond 45cal SS with a 3X9 Burris SS Bow is a Jennings Forked Lightning Hand gun is a Thompson center contender 35rem. with 3X6 Burris scope and a Harris Bi-pod.
  14. I'll keep what I've got until I have no choice.
  15. I look for the antlers on top of his head. Then I know for sure that track is made by a buck. All serious now I follow the track and look for the way the deer is behaving. Call it a gut feelling or what but after awhile you just know. At least about 75 percent of the time.
  16. I agree, than add DEP property there is no shortage of land to hunt. I hunt state land in Greene co. but haven't hunted state land in Schoharie co. in some time. I have 700 acres next to me that my neighbor lets me hunt and he is very selective on who he lets hunt. Another 350 acres of DEP property adjoining that doesn't get much pressure after the first week.
  17. Most of the bucks shot in my area are 1 1/2 years old. Since 1983 I started taking my bucks to DEC to have aged. I also started weighing my deer as well. Since that time I have shot bucks that weighed any where from 87lbs to 173lbs and never any older than 2 1/2 years old. I shot a six pointer that dressed 96lbs and was 2 1/2 years old, a 9 pointer that dress 135lbs that was 1 1/2 years old. Ten years ago I decided not to shoot a buck unless I thought it was 2 1/2 years old. I shot 10 bucks and 9 have been 2 1/2 years old. I would have to say that I have not seen a 3 1/2 year old buck during the season and few at other times.
  18. Yep, there is some big country up there. The lack of hunters especially on the state land the deer just don't move.
