  1. Like the show a lot. Wish my wife would get into it and help cut up my deer with me lol. She certainly enjoys stealing all of the tasty treats I make...
  2. I hunt a small low pressure area of 5 acres close to my house i climb up and down from my stands in the dark because in my experience deer will remember what tree they busted you in or see you climb out of lol. Especially those damn mature does. As for shooting before or after legal light that's a personal decision. Certainly not with a gun...
  3. Rain stopped in 8H. Very little wind. Might go out for the magic hour after work seeing as though my stand is about 500 ft from where park my truck on the road..
  4. taking Nov 6 off for an all day sit.. then the following week possibly the 15th and 16th to hopefully fill some tags with the xbow before gun opens..
  5. Locked and loaded here in Rochester, not too far from Sodus... Some weird stuff been going on this year for sure
  6. What a buck.. Deer like that are the reason i save up my vaca time for the rut... Phade what kind of trail cam? Browning? What model? Those nighttime pics are real nice...
  7. I have lost 2 deer and both times I felt like giving up on hunting too... just give it a few days is all i can say.. One time I hit a doe low, had white hair everywhere from her belly, and followed a light blood trail for a 1/2 mile. Another time I hit a real nice 8 hard in the front shoulder. He ran and bedded about 150 yds away.. lots of blood in the bed... Didn't give him enough time as he jumped the bed and ran onto my friend's neighbor's property who doesn't let anybody track... hard lessons learned.. it's inevitable...
  8. Both. This is my 6th or 7th year bowhunting and it's really hard. I've learned to get back to the basics and drop some of the tech. Been rattling and calling bucks in. Sat on the ground yesterday and had a bachelor group of 3 bucks at about 8 or 9 yds but none shooters. They had no idea i was there because I've been studying their movements combined with the landscape and wind. The tech that i do utilize the most are GPS maps and topography maps that are on all of our phones now, and of course trail cams..
  9. Just had 2 spikes and a 2.5 year old 6 pt no brow tines walk right across my face at 8 yds.. That 6 won't get a pass come Nov. Then 2 does at 20 yds fortunately they kept their cool after seeing me..
  10. Live from the thruway.. Deer in every field.. Good luck all... Gonna take the climber out in the am..
  11. Fork and basket walked by while i was climbing down... One had a slight limp.. Neither saw me. Looking for their uncle Buck.. Same 2 doe fawns i see every sit were chillin in the yard on my way out.. Mom got hit a couple months ago in the road..
  12. Not completely shut out tonight. 2 doe in the neighbor's front yard about 200 yds away. They must feed them. To be continued tomorrow morning...
  13. Just finished work.. gonna hunt from the ground tonight and try and call a buck in... low pressure this time of the year where I hunt in 8H, I have a good feeling...
  14. Gonna look all out tonight.... will be out after work tomorrow... got a slow pitch softball game tonight, hopefully our last game cause it's too cold for softball but perfect weather for shooting a big buck...
  15. Looks to be an older buck.. maybe 4.5+ years old. Weird place for a tumor.. mediastinal tumor?... his neck will be huge come full rut
  16. I bought the Ameristep Care Taker off of Amazon.. haven't used it yet but I bought it because it pops open and closed so I'll be able to move it around frequently as the woods I hunt are very thick.. Plenty of room to draw (seated).. I think the height of it is 5'6"... other people will argue putting a blind in mid October is too intrusive and to build a natural ground blind instead...
  17. Good luck all. Windshield wipers were frozen to my truck this morning which translates to a BBD today by somebody!!
  18. Venison jerky, and halloween candy for sure lol... If i have a meal in stand forget it, passing out.. zzzzz
  19. congrats on the harvests... live from my office desk it is HAILING outisde in 8G.. might give it a go with the bow tonight if the weather clears up..
  20. People can re-contract Lyme so I'm assuming dogs can too. Got lyme myself back in 2012.. Not all ticks carry Lyme only a small % do... Tick has to be attached for several hours I was told 6-8 hrs to transmit the disease. I'm not a vet but I do work in healthcare as a Dr. Get him to the vet if he gets the usual symptoms. Hoping for freezing temps soon
  21. i used to bump deer out of fields in the dark too, like others said stay downwind and keep moving.... If it's inevitable the field needs to be crossed, I've always felt if you keep moving they will circle around and not alert/blow. 98% of my walk i don't use a headlamp either..
