  1. sat out 2 hours.. had a stare down with a doe fawn for a few minutes and then her sister came along however the usual neighborhood doe groups were MIA. Lockdown? Fresh, heavy tracks all around my stand but I think the deer got to bedding early this morning...
  2. Remington 700 30-06 Nikon BDC shooting 150 grain federal fusion... Deer usually drop straight down, no tracking. My mossberg 500 has 2 wallhangers though lol....
  3. i dont know if you can control buck fever.. you try and play it out in your mind which shooting lane the deer will be in, quartering away slightly, 20 yards and in, but it rarely ever happens that way.. couple weeks ago i had a 3.5 year old 9 pointer walk in a straight line to my stand, hit a rub and scrape about 7-8 yds away, and then walk straight back.. never presented a bow shot.... i was shaking the whole time
  4. historically if there's still a hot doe or two in the area on opening day i've been lucky.. last year i think the 2nd/late rut was hotter than the 1st rut in my area.. i had fresh scrapes and rubs in December... otherwise all the deer got into bedding even before i got to my stand in the morning..
  5. nice ground blind set up.. i prefer the crossbow pre-rut/rut hunting but have lots of good opening day memories... anything can happen really. shot my 30-06 at 50 yds today was 3" high and 3" left, must've bumped the scope.. took 12-15 shots to get it right but feeling much better about saturday now... good luck
  6. Sat until 10am today had a doe group come by out of range and 30 mins later had a 2.5 year old 8 pt following their trail.. wasn't interested in bleats or grunts... jumped 2 bucks on the way out... one very big.. saw multiple deer and multiple bucks from the thruway tonight walking does in circles.. good luck this week all
  7. I second the Cabelas Wooltimate series.. Pants, jacket, gloves, balaclava, etc.. Wish i had the parka but they're hard to find. Very warm stuff
  8. Saw about 6 or 8 doe being harassed by a fork for a couple hours this am.. Every time i saw a deer coming i would get disappointed because it was the same damn fork running the property all morning lol.. Couple big bucks on cam this week while i was at work... Don't think the does are quite hot enough yet in 8H...
  9. Thank you all for your sacrifice and service
  10. Great deer.. Congrats... Great memories too man
  11. live from my desk at work.. wet snow/rain in Rochester... hoping it turns to snow tonight as the temps drop.. nice to see all of you guys seeing buck action/breeding/chasing.. got a fresh bottle of antler ice estrous to use first thing in the morning!! Good luck all
  12. I will be hunting your way tomorrow just outside of Batavia at my cousin's on the SW side of Batavia... hoping for some good snow cover.. Live in Rochester however Batavia area seems to get hammered simultaneously with Buffalo..
  13. Yeah def doesn't look like a 2.5 year old deer to me with that long snout and fat belly so 3.5 or 4.5.. Good luck!!!
  14. Nice shooter buck where i hunt! Too hard to tell age from those pics. Good luck
  15. A couple members and I have mentioned this and it's worth checking out cause I'm hooked..... if you're like me and work at their computer a lot but need frequent distractions, watch this season of THE HUNTING PUBLIC.. it's a Youtube channel of some hunting buddies, who are very knowledgeable about the outdoors and travel the midwest on mostly public property and upload their experiences. I know a lot of us are on private land but there's something to learn with each video because they have to put in time and research to study every piece to a successful hunt... honestly if I put in as much time as they did my wife would certainly divorce me.. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzlnaIrdxwJITyrESOReqxg
  16. looks 2.5 years old with a thick neck, it's that time of the year.... smiling for you too.. lol
  17. got to my stand yesterday.. a huge mature maple tree that hides me very well... however no leaves on it at all already!!!!
  18. 2.5 years old but i suck at scoring... awesome bow buck
  19. great show.. and yeah that shot look buried but slightly back... was very surprised they didn't find that deer
  20. Well the wide buck I've been seeing was standing across the street in the neighbors yard (not cool with hunting) watching me get dressed at my truck.. I know some does bed over there he's probably cruising around.. Saw 2 yearlings from stand whos mom got hit a car.. We have encountered eachother every sit this year. Warm and wind not a good combo. Not out again til Fri afternoon.. Good luck all
  21. Still have all my tags so I'm disappointed.. I honestly hunt bucks until mid Oct and try to pattern them and see where they're bedding, where the does are bedding, and try to be somewhere in between this time of year as the bucks move between bedding areas.. Seen a lot of 1.5 year old deer this year, more than ever before.. passed on a 3.5 year old 9 pointer Saturday who was basically right under my stand.. had the safety off my xbow any everything however couldn't get him to present me with a kill shot.. hoping he takes the same route next sit!
  22. 8G Genesee county.... had a doe and 2 yearlings run by getting harassed by two 1.5 yr old bucks right under my stand.. basket and fork.. Once they hit my Tinks they froze and circled for a few mins lol... no chasing
  23. Scummy.. I would feel absolutely no satisfaction killing a deer over bait.. Especially a wall hanger... Good luck!
