Ive hunted the last 3 years in Maine, primarily for bear and I can tell you that the outside bunnyhuggers have a major influence of money and power on the state. The last few times the bear baiting/running of hounds bill has come up it has been to close to call. The guides and hunting industry of Maine would suffer a massive blow if that weren't there for them to make a living, damn near catastrophic if you ask me.On that note I think it would be a good thing this change would help, but I know in the grand sceam of this it wouldn't matter.Funds would pour in to the right officials that swayed their votes the way of the contributor and then the small hunter/guide would loose their voice all together. The singer "Keesha" supposedly donated 25 million dollars to the fund to stop bear hunting with bait and hounds last year(don't know this to be 100% true, just what I was told). That money would just go into a crooked politicians hands as a campaign donation.

I am usually sitting an hour before its light enough to see your feet.Is this early enough or should I be earlier?
-
Decoys have their place as with a lot of other hunting accessories.Just like JJB4900 said in wide open fields ,power lines or clear cuts I think they work good.I've had toms run into and I've had them turn inside out like their tails were on fire and run the other way.
-
I usually just sit against a tree but with me taking a my nephew out I will be using the blind quite a bit this year.Just wondering if many people roost birds then set the blind up the night before?I have been scoping a few groups out and have 5-6 spots already cleared of brush/ground debris for blind setup.I hate doing a blind setup in the am as I am far from the quietest person in the woods and don't want to use a light in the am.So I figure to get high on a ridge the night before and watch the birds roost, then wait a hour or so and go to the spot I want to set the blind up for the am.What do you think?
-
while the concept of that is awesome,it looks like a huge pain in the azz and who knows how heavy it is
-
I was really surprised how fast mine showed at my door.I am pretty sure it was 2-3 days after the order and I ordered it later at night also.

Quality deeks make a huge difference.I use them every once in a while.Mostly the first week of season and here and there during. After the first week it depends on what I am seeing and how the turkeys are reacting to calling. If they are still hot for calls I use them,if they are skittish then I don't use them.
-
I have been going out and scouting the farm I hut most mornings lately. No calling just sitting far away from usual roost sites with binos and listening for them. The farm was just sold to a new owner who's given me permission but they are in the fields bulldozing all hedgerows and a old apple orchard on one side of the farm.I have not heard or seen a tom on that side yet this year. Its usually just as good as the other side.I did find a few tracks in the mud though. Will the work being done mess with the turkeys to stay out of the area?
-
They are all over in a few spots around here.I mostly see them eating roadkill.Do they prey on animals like a hawk or Owl will?
-
You'll love it!! I used mine during deer season and wont ground hunt without it again
