  1. Sounds like I better have some stands in place for early field edge hunts then
  2. 7 days and a wakup!!! Lets all hope for great weather for the kiddo's and happy safe hunting!!!
  3. So the farm I hunt has changed hands and the new owner and I got together about hunting it.He said he is doing Organic corn, non organic corn and buckwheat.I know corn is good buck do deer eat buckwheat?I have personally never heard of it around this area so I am hoping they do as it may be a awesome little food source
  4. Letnmfly,I want to take the time to say thanks for your time and efforts for this youth contest.I know there wast much involvement this year and I to am surprised but its a great thing that you do and I know my nephew will love what he gets.Again thanks and contact me next year for a donation
  5. ok its still all for sale beside the Matthews and tasco.make a offer I want it gone
  6. I switched from the trigger stick to a set of bog pod tripod.I usually use 2 legs and the thirds is there if I want it.The trigger stick always had one leg fail after a year or 2 of use.Spending 100 bucks on a set of sticks and getting one year of use out of them sucks
  7. Its not about the kill its about the hunt!! Very cool experience!!
  8. Yea the longbeards are a great she'll for the money as long as they pattern well enough
  9. WNY's post about the biggest got me thinking about past hunts. This was in 2013 when my friend and I hunting hard all day struck a Jake up at 11am.He was with a hen a ways away when he answered. She came over a crest in the field and as soon as she spotted the hen decoy she walked straight to the decoy.I think she was trying to get the Jake away from her because she didn't give a rats butt about the deek.Anyways he was still 125 yards out and the whole way in his head changed color what seamed like every few seconds. She settled in between my friend and his deek at around 6 yards and stayed put. When he got to 25 yards my friend leveled him
  10. My first Tom,I have been trying to best myself since!!HAHA He weighed 21 pounds,9 1/4 beard and his spurs were a hair over 1 inch.I believe I killed him in 2009,he came running across a long fresh plowed field from 500 yards out.He hit the edge of the field and gobbled at my call.He ran as fast as a tom could run towards us and stopped at 75 yards.the last 25-30 yards he strutted in and got himself in a dip in the field where all I could see was the tips of his tail feathers when he strutted. He came in another few steps and I could see half his neck and his head when he alarm putted so them my shotgun gave him a put!! all over but the crying for him
  11. Yea your good.Just make sure how far your shooting or plan on shooting.I wouldn't shoot any farther than what you've patterned your gun for.So I would try 40 just so you know what your up against when that bird hangs up,that way you know for sure if you can take him or "hope" you can.
  12. I cant help with a semi auto.I use a 870 Supermag.I can tell you that I wish I paid more attention before I bought mine and I probably would have went with a 20.A lot of people on Oldgobbler.com are getting awesome patterns and knocking down birds past 40 yards with 20's.Most are shooting federals HW #7's.Just my 2 cents on that. For a semi I have 4 friends that run 3 1/2 inch guns. One has a Benelli SBE2,one has a mossberg 935 and 3 have Stoeger 3500.All like them and all get used pretty well. The one that's amazed me(basically because I know how the guy treats his equipment) is one of the stoegers.Feeds anything you throw at it.He uses it for waterfowl and shoots cases a year between that and trap.
  13. This,my suggestion is burn some shoe leather in the next few weeks and once you find some trails set some cams. Also look for secondary trails(parallel trails) off of the does group trails and set cams on them. This summer you will want to run cams as much as you can to learn the new routines of the deer.Once the briars start coming in it will be awesome bedding, food and sanctuary for them. One of the best spots on my friends farm is a 10 year old logged area thats choked with briars and the deer go in and out.
  14. Oh yea,my nephew is chomping at the bit.Heading out tomorrow or Wednesday after work to pull card on cams and put them in different spots to get a idea of where the birds are.
  15. From what I have heard you can make it from a concentrated form from places like TSC and other farm type stores.
  16. Yes it works,I am not sure if deer smell it but I used it all last deer season and still had deer around me.The way I look at it if they can smell that they will smell you so it wont matter,I'd rather be tick free
  17. Creepy crawlies for sure!!I had one on my pant leg yesterday and by the end of the day could have sworn I had a thousand on me!!HA Better get some permethrin and treat your clothes!!
  18. Mathews SPF Make me a offer for the rest guys and gals.I want it gone and off my shelf
  19. 1.The enjoyment of being in the woods to see everything it has to offer. When the woods wakes upand comes alive is one of the most enjoyable things in the world 2.The meat 3.The kill.Yes I enjoy the kill.If you dont thats fine but its part of the hunt to me
  20. I know I can climb a fence or a tree, yet I wouldn't want to know what my ankles and wrists would feel like if bound then hoisted up and left suspended for even a short period of time
  21. Picked up 7 empty hulls from goose hunters in the corn field,a few balloons, bunch of beer/soda cans and a old grill from my scouting trip today.I hate trash,i usually carry a grocery bag just to take trash out with when scouting.I don't do it while hunting because I already have enough stuff I carry.I bet in the last few years I could have filled a pickup bed full of garbage I've taken out of the woods
