My Lazy Gun Today I swung my front door wide open and placed my Remington 30.06 right in the doorway. I left 6 shells beside it, then left it alone and went about my business. While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor boy across the street mowed the yard, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the stop sign near the front of our house. After about an hour, I checked on the gun. It was still sitting there, right where I had left it. It hadn't moved itself outside. It certainly hadn't killed anyone, even with the numerous opportunities it had been presented to do so. In fact, it hadn't even loaded itself. Well, you can imagine my surprise, with all the media hype about how dangerous guns are and how they kill people. Either the media is wrong or I'm in possession of the laziest gun in the world. Well, I'm off to check on my spoons. I hear they're making people fat. The United States is 3rd in Murders throughout the World. But if you take out Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC and New Orleans, the United States is 4th from the bottom for Murders. These 4 Cities also have the toughest Gun Control Laws in the United States. ALL 4 are controlled by Democrats. It would be absurd to draw any conclusions from this data – right? Was emailed to me today, thought it was funny but also truthful!!

Wrong beaver phade!!LOL The three S's would definitely come into play here. From what I remember when a friend jumped through all the red tape for out of season disposal it will be into deer season before you get the ok.Next thing I would do is find a trapper in the area.Beaver bring good $$$$

Polaris trail mower
MACHINIST replied to First-light's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
Sounds like its gummed up to me also.Carb cleaner,do it a few times and let it sit for a little bit then hit it again.Depending on how long it sat get some new fuel line and re-run the lines in the system.Rubber fuel lines can swell when they sit for a extended period of time with fuel in the lines. It may seam like gas is getting to the carb but I would try feeding the carb and see if it still runs longer.Besides that take it to a mechanic and have the carb dipped and rebuilt.Nice score on the trailmower by the way.50 bucks if way cheap!!! -
May god be with him and keep him safe

Powderhorn hunting preserve / Pere David's deer.
MACHINIST replied to Skillet's topic in Out of New York Hunting
Thats very cool!!! Certain preserves depending on the animal aren't shooting fish in a barrel so to speak. And nothing if for certain when your using archery equipment! -
What kayak for fishing/deer hunting?
MACHINIST replied to MACHINIST's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
It is when I would have to walk through all the areas that hold the deer in the dark, not to mention a few bedding areas.I found some bedding areas when trout fishing and can slip in almost silent in a canoe/yak.Not to mention I wont sweat my nitz off doing it.You go ahead with your 10 mile trip, its not for me.I know a few guys that love going in super deep and have even helped drag out their kills with them but I would rather paddle in if I can. -
Try shooting some foster slugs from the smoothbore.I had a old 20 gauge mossberg that would throw a 3-3.5 inch group if I scoped it at 100 yards all day long with cheap reminton sluggers. That gun was a 26 or 28 inch vent rib bird barrel

How to remove top layer of growth?
MACHINIST replied to greenecounty's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
First spray i with weed killer,be preppared to do this 2-3 times if the veg is thick.I like to brush hog first then go in a few days later and spray the place.Once the veg is dead it makes discing or tilling way easier -
Jharvey,do you run them here to practice for other states or what?Just wondering.I have never run dogs on anything but rabbits and it intrigues me
-
Im not a hound guy,but hounds do get results.I know guys that run them for coyotes. My guide in Maine that I go to also has a guy that runs them also. This year 2 of our crew thats going to Maine in September are running them with dogs.I may tag along with one of them just to experience it and also maybe film the hunt.We will see though.I would love to see them open up a baiting season,I think it would be a great thing for them here in NY

I think a Cabelas would clean up in the Watertown area because of all the NY'ers and people coming across the border

Honestly the 3-4 years we've done it its been really decent,20-50 most years one year was 40-70's but still nice. The bugs weren't bad,I just wore my bug headnet and I don't notice them.I like the season because it gets you out earlier and its a great weekend to go up with a good group of guys and unwind, eat some great food and hunt.I would hunt the am and pm but also do some trout fishing with my rifle slung over my shoulder.I actually saw a moose the last time we were up.Thought I had a monster bear coming at me and I was ready till a small bull moose stepped out at 40 yards out of some tag alders.Super awesome experience!!!Heres a game cam pic of him earlier that year

We have done it for about 5 years now.Very tough to hunt, hunt the food and the fresh sign and don't be afraid to put on some shoe leather to find fresh sign or foods that they are hitting.Beach nuts, cherries, berry bushes it could be anything and will change week to week if not day to day, don't rule out farms that are both active and inactive. We would go into our spots the month before and set up cams and have them in our area(pics on the cams, tracks and scat you know the deal) and when the season is on then they are gone.Last year and this year I have trips to maine planned so I wont be back up in the ADK to hunt them till next year more than likely.I want to find a active farm up there and get permission. From what I here they do a number on corn that is still up when the first cold snap hits.Good luck

Great for you guys but I have to wonder why the hell they are putting them so close.Think about it,one in Utica, another in Auburn and then this one in Victor,WHat is it around a hours driving apart from one another?

For my county paperwork already completed at the local county office. Then a nics check at the dealer or another FFL holder if you were buying a used gun FTF.And as long as your brady bill is up to date then you should be good.

Show up tipsy and ask who you can operate on!!! -
great way to put the numbers down to make people understand. To many things can happen in the woods between you and the deer, next throw in a long distance and who knows.
