I know you said you cleaned it good but if it has lead fouling in the barrel your fighting a loosing battle.I would soak the barrel overnight with a good wet patch and in the am run another clean patch down it,if it has any grey the barrel is fouled.try that, its made a major difference in some rifle I have owned

Look for food most of all, beechnuts would be great.Maybe leftover apple trees depending on how early a fall/winter we have. These would be in my pack for everyday hunts in the big woods. Also its a good idea to make a map of the area you will be in and give it to someone in case you dont get back on time they know where to send more beer!!!LOL small first aid kit fire making supplies water straw(the purifying kind) a day or so of food compass( I don't care if you have a GPS its still a good idea,it is a electrical item and batteries fail) handwarmers map of area signal mirror small pack of potatoe chips(can be a fire starter also) god ideas but not 100% needed spare socks(in case your feet get wet) some fishing line, hooks, lure or 2(you can always hand-line for fish in a pinch) This is on top of the essentials like ammo, knife and sharpener, tags, phone, gps, gun.

A couple of general camping tips for the summer
MACHINIST replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
I have to ask how you came up with the aluminum nail trick??And do you bury them in the coals like most people do or put them on the cooking grate close to the coals? The corn and caremelised onion trick will be done next time I am camping for sure thanks!!! -
What I dont understand is why is he could buy it 5+-years ago and he was ok to do so but now he is a criminal when nothing has changed in his life?
-
Not a friend,He is the tenant of a friends rental.Told him they wanted to check serial number of a gun he registered, when he handed the gun over they said he had a misdemeanor 30 years prior and took the gun.Don't know if they gave him a receipt or what.Funny thing is he bought the gun a few years back from a dealer so he is on the books for the gun way before the crap hit the fan, registered it when he was supposed to.And yesterday they knocked at the door
-
I know a local guy that had one taken, they come to "look at the gun to make sure the serial #'s match" and then your guns gone.Channel 9 news in Syracuse is doing a story on it tonight if anyone is interested

phade & Big Indian..........Happy Birthday!!!
MACHINIST replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
Happy birthday dudes!! -
Great post,I have seen a crap ton of great older(5-6 years old) bows on craigslist that I used to hunt with the same model and can be had cheap and all will kill deer very easily.Any older Mathews you can look up on their website under discontinued models section.I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with a MQ1 or if I could find a a old Oneida Eagle light force magnum I would be all over those 2 right now!!!

Beretta A390 Silver Mallard F.S.
MACHINIST replied to Renegade Hunter's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
Didnt think that would take long!!! -
Do yourself a favor and go to a bow shop that has more than 3-4 brands to shoot from.Tell them your new and you want to shoot a few.IMO you don't want a super speed bow for your first bow,you will learn bad habits that will be tough to get rid of unless your really lucky.Shoot any bow you can get your hand on and see what "feels" best for you. When you shoot 15-20 different bows a few will stand out.Go and shoot them again and make your decision.Don't look at speed either, almost all the bows now are super quick compared to what we all shot 20 years ago
-
Much farther???Some might but thats not any reason to shoot them.If you can get a group with a field point tipped arrow you don't deserve to be in the woods shooting at any animal.A typical fixed blade is 1 -1 1/2 inches wide, some of the mechanicals can go out to 3 inches but most are 2 inches or so,still your only talking about a very small difference either way.If you cant hit the vitals, you cant kill a deer and stay home please

Best Hunting Boots
MACHINIST replied to NYBuckHunter27's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I may have to try the maine boot. How are they for warmth? -
Look at the Ulmer Edge broadhead.Yes they are expandable but they also lock the blades down with a set screw for practicing with them.....and they make a monster hole!!

Yea cant wait to see him grow!!!

This, you tell the landowner if your paying to hunt there then thats it.Or if he is allowing him to hunt he needs to pay his fair share.
