  3. 374. Humane destruction or other disposition of animals lost, strayed, homeless, abandoned or improperly confined or kept 1. Any person over the age of twenty-one years possessing a hunting license may, and environmental conservation officers and peace officers, acting pursuant to their special duties, or police officers shall humanely destroy cats at large found hunting or killing any protected wild bird or with a dead bird of any protected species in its possession These laws apply to different situations and are not contraditory. The truth is laws have to be written with excessive verbage to twart the lawyers that are always working to get their guilty clients off the hook. I don't remember the lawyer who said "Just because you did it doesn't mean your guilty" I am constantly "removing" house sparrows from my bird feeder areas and I cull any Starling I see when hunting farmland.
  4. I don't understand why this is a liberal issue, I know plenty of conservative who agree with the name being changed, but more importantly, you have a whole group of people both conservative and liberal called native americans that object to the slur name redskin and do not object to the tribal, place or given name of our weapons of mass destruction. Native americans brought up this issue in the first place and many people have come to see it their way on this issue, why are more conservative not seeing it their way? Why is it that mostly conservatives are voicing opposition? Wouldn't a conservative want to conserve a people rights and respect? or is it that conservatives really want to conserve the america of 50 years ago complete with bigotry and racism? No one other than a native american can tell you if redskin is a slur or not, the rest of america's opinion is interesting but irrelavant. Simply put as the first generation son of italian born immigrants you do not get to tell me what i find offensive, I'll tell you!
  5. My Garmin Dakota 10 switches easily from car gps mode to hunting but with no spoken directions. 6+ years and still going strong, waterproof shockproof and small.
  6. I've always wanted to keep bees and have many blocks of wood set out as mason bee nests. But I gotta say this looks interesting for when I leave LI for Upstate. Crowd funding is an interesting concept made possible by the internet. Imagine you're Ralph Kramden and you want to manufacter and market your Kitchen Do-All Tool. With crowd funding you put you idea out there in a controlled forum that creates some assurances and investment opportunities. In other words you appeal to all the other Ralph Kramden's in the world with some pocket cash. I have no numbers but there are many tails of those that have paid off.
  7. BTW the real zombies is the generation glued face down to their phone as the world around them passes them by...
  8. Yeah! Let's give control of the internet to the corporations! They've never screwed us, EVER, what could happen? Funny, although you said control of the internet which kind of implies running it, the ruling only brings the internet companies under the umbrella of the FCC's rules. Flatly stating that interenet companies must treat all cusomers alike and cannot create fast lanes for those who pay.
  9. I'm not 100 percent sure, but i thought I remembered reading that legal feeding of any wildlife or livestock must be 500 feet from any blacktop road. Which kind of makes sense.
  10. I personally won't feed deer even in a harsh winter like we are having, but I can't fault those that do. However, there are some rules that make sense. Here on long island we have Connectquot St. Pk. nearly 5000 acres that can not be hunted, it is loaded with deer (and ticks), is used by mostly equesritans and trout fishermen. Many on it's border feed deer and not just when the winters are this bad. None follow the rules of feeding deer 500 feet from a road. Some want to see the deer eating and feed them less than 20 feet from the shoulder and just over a 6 foot fence which is nothing for deer to jump. Guess where most of the deer car collisions happen?
  11. I've b-b-b-b-been f-f-f-f-fox h-h-hunting b-b-but It's d-d-d-dam c-c-cold!
  12. Great gun! Long Islander's should consider it for squirrel hunting it's a nice alternative to shotguns if you actually eat the tree rats (and I do!). Oft times I slip out to Otis Pike to scout and pick off any tree rats I may see.
  13. Your mom sir is a saint!
  14. I've no problem with people from upstate and often I am in awe of how resourceful and hard working they are, many that I know work more than one job because they have to. But the way i see it haters gotta hate and thats what you see here when someone jumps the gun blaming downstaters for issues created in their own back yard.
  15. When you keep slamming us "downstaters" you just show your ignorance. Without us downstaters your Upstate economy would be ******.
  16. There is a reason there is a plaque at the top of Mt washington listing all the people who have died on the mountain.
  17. If everyone is thinking alike, then someone isn't thinking. -G.Patton
  18. Hey Booey! Welcome! With a little research you'll find good turkey hunting right in Duchess and Columbia counties many part of which are just about 2 hours from the city. And while season dates are different and usually shorter, the regulations tedious, nearby Suffolk has good hunting.
  19. Yes! Please! My family has land on an island called Ischia in Italy where we have chestnut groves. it has always been in the back of my mind to plant a chestnut tree. Thanks!
  20. I was born in Red Hook Brooklyn, and lived there until I was 40. I have been shot at more than once, stuck with a knife and intentionally struck by a car while biking. I have lost 2 close friends to guns, and a few others to heroin. I watched as a small child (I think I was 9) from my third floor window on Summit St. as 2 cars pulled over on Columbia St, men jumped out and emptied there guns at each other, and jumped back in then sped away. Later Breslin wrote about it "The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight'. Crazy Joe Gallo was a regular on my block as were other mafia connected people some of which I would later find out we quite dangerous. Illegal guns could be had for a song back then. I grew up a wharf rat in that neighborhood and often wonder how I escaped the criminal fate of some of the people I grew up with. I have seen gun violence first had more than once and It has formed my opinions in later life. I am not anti gun, I am for responsible gun ownership.
