  1. Not so sure about the circuitry in the cams, aren't most rated to -10deg or something like that?? Batteries are more subject to failure in the cold temps! If they don't get the voltage signal from the batteries, cam probably will be slow or not trigger. Have a Moultrie that behaves much like your's. Other Bushnell & Cuddeback, not so much.
  2. Guess it doesn't suprise me the legislators behind these gun control proposals represent Manhattan, Bronx & Queens. (Silver, Diaz & Peralta). And of course with Bloomberg's full blessing, I'm assuming. No offense to fellow forum members from the NYC vicinity, but you have some real idiots representing you!!!
  3. Kool! Keep this up & we'll be watching you on the Outdoors channel. LOL Get the best of both worlds; listening to the beagle on a bunny & the hawk attacking them!!
  4. FYI - OP mentioned his $150 price range. Can't touch a "home-brew" for 2-3X that $$.
  5. Look around, read reviews and pick out one you could live with. Then wait until around Feb. to buy one. New models are shown at the annual Vegas Shot Show. Price & interest in last year's models really decline around that timeframe. BTW - I was of the same mindset as you. Video, WTH do I need that for? It's really addicting to see the video of deer & especially a buck. I too have a "Home-brew" that's on it's last legs. Photos are exponentialy better with a home-brew. As is the price.
  6. Doesn't the GPS screen size &/or resolution limit the benefits of having the "Birds-Eye" map?
  7. Probably shoud have added a few more words to the topic title. Just a thought...
  8. WOW,...WOW! Sell my soul for an opportunity at most of those bucks. lol Glad to see some great bucks from Wayne Co., not a typical NYS "hot spot". Assuming, or is it?
  9. KOOL!!! Can't believe the dog & hawk are so comfortable around each other. Haven't you typically released your "trainees" by this time of year?
  10. I don't have any young children & the current state of the nation scares me also. What have we created for the generations to follow. Now to be the Devil's advocate - No disrespect to the OP's opinion, but do we need yet another Gun Rights topic??? Been proven over the past week this is a "Hot Button" for many, but really...
  11. So you made the final, fatal shot and gutted the deer on his property that you didn't have permission to hunt or be on? And...This is the same neighbor you've been having prior disagreements with. Sounds like you incited an already "bad-blood" situation..? Correct me if I'm wrong!!
  12. Agree with you 1000%! On CNN the other day there was a staff consultant that was a retired Nassau police officer. He was making a suggestion & CNN cut him off. Basically, he though permit holders & legal gun (handgun) owners should have their application and living circumstances reviewed perodically. No more - simply apply, get the background check and then accumulate guns the rest of your life unquestioned. Another option (IMHO) migh be for pobably the ATF to have a database of legal gun owners that could be cross checked with medical & prescription records. I got my permit decades ago and I'm pretty sure they have no clue if I'm residing with a felon, undergoing psychiatric help, an addict or taking anti-depressants. This would inclue any individuals residing where the guns are kept. We just had a small local gun shop out in the middle of "nowhere" get robber, 60+ mostly handguns stolen. Should they make the facilities that sell guns abide by more strict security/building codes? I think so. Problem is, gun owners are not willing to make any concessions to avoid what was described above. I can foresee in the future all guns will be checked into an armory/local PD and signed out for a single 24hr useage, then checked back in. More than likely won't solve any of the fore mentioned issues, but some might think it would control them better. If, as gun owners we can't come up with legitimate suggestions and possible concessions - They'll strike down the 2nd admendment.
  13. I'm one that doesn't really like the "gamey" taste of venison. Weird for a hunter, not really. A friend suggested this (link) marinade and I've tried it different ways prepared indoors - broiled, GF grill, pan fried, etc. For whatever reason, on the B-B-Q is the best! http://www.mccormick.com/Products/Seasoning-Mixes/Homestyle%20Classics/Meat-Marinade-Seasoning-Mix.aspx
  14. LMAO, thanks Paula for sharing.
  15. FYI - Triple 7 puts out magnum sized pellets (red box), ~65gm equivalent.
  16. Have seen them in or along a field or open area. Have to think you'd need a small army to upright it after assembly..? Save yourself a lot of grief if you at least considered these: http://www.sportsmanscondo.com/productpages/EZBracket.htm http://www.homedepot.com/buy/elevators-4-in-x-4-in-double-angle-brackets-set-of-4-e188.html Also at BassPro, etc.
  17. Worked down in your area, so I know it's true. Mostly cuz' they're all cuzins. Similiar genetics make ya' do it! Kidding!
  18. What are you guys talking about? Seen the movie "I am legend" with Will Smith? Lots of wildlife & hunting going on in NYC. In a movie, must be true... LOL
  19. Oh yeah, ditto!!!!!!!! FYI - The Stones were the true 1st GB rock band! As requested, this pretty much dates me. LOL Miss the days; When people would talk to one another w/o cell phones, texting, eMail, etc. When you could look someone in the eyes when communicating w/o them getting nervous. Putting $2 of gas in the car & driving around town all day. (Pre-1st gas embargo, $0.25/gal) When kids could disappear all day on their bikes & the parents didn't have to worry. Of course the obvious - High School w/sports, hangin' out with the buddies, chasin' girls, .... When the town's gang was a group of HS boys that didn't cause trouble - Duke, Shiek, Leaper, Boobie.. When Soul music was girl or guy groups, singing lyrics you could understand. No offense, but Rap sucks! When it was expected that you respect everyone. And the associated trust that has also disappeared. Bitter - Sweet since I lived there at the time, but the Summer Jam at Watkins Glen. Always though I'd love to have it all to do over again. But in today's society, not so sure!
  20. Sure miss hearing those dogs chasin' a rabbit. Dad used to have beagles & loved his rabbit hunting. Nothing like a pack of beagles on the trail of a rabbit. Could listen to them all day. Is Hunter Sullivan's dog a purebreed? Has unusal (to me..) markings, like a basset mix. Gorgeous dog, just isn't your typical everyday looking beagle.
  21. Nothing special about Wayne County, some farm land and the deer in those areas have the nutrients to grow bone. Other areas have poor soil and almost no agr crops in the vicinity. Those deer basically survive on browse and their bodies & racks show it. Also, N. Wayne Co. has lots of apple orchards which draw the deer, but have no effect on growing bone. Probably not unlike any other county in NYS. Just guessing, but I'll bet Wayne County isn't in the top 10 Big Buck or record book bucks of all NYS counties. So, stay where you currently hunt, don't move - these bucks are outstanding bucks, but not a typical representation of all bucks in Wayne Co. Just a good year, a lot of luck and maybe a little tresspassing thrown in.
  22. Don't get drawn in by some of the bells & whistles on the more $$$ models. Figure out what you expect it to do & the basic requirements you need. The more repeatable the unit is, the $$$. The more bells & whistles, the $$$. Some models require optional maps at an additional $$$. Get the biggest screen you can afford. Color display is great, but on a topo map unit? Alot of mfgers have usb download (& upload) capable units. Viewing maps on your PC monitor is great with your routes, waypoints, etc. You don't need a Lincoln Navigator when a much cheaper 4x4 will work just fine. I had a cheapo Magellan that worked great. Got a much better Garmin 60cx at 4X $$. Was it worth the additional cost? Sure, ..maybe, ....probably not for what I needed!
  23. WOW, that's pretty Hi-Tech for some of us rednecks (315'ers).
  24. Same for me when using 777, have to clean the bore after 2-3 shots. Otherwise you'll need an arbor press to get those Barnes seated. Can't imagine that would give you any consistent groups. Fortunately in the real hunting world, rarely would you get a 2nd shot.
  25. To take it even further into paranoia; How many of you wipe or clean the washer and dryer before doing hunting gear?
