I have not heard anything about going to the .308, but it would sure surprise the heck out of me... Nearly all the major powers have gone to .22 caliber assault rifles, including the Soviets and the Chinese with their AK-74s... One of the major issues against the .308 is that the recoil is too heavy to be controllable in an easily portable infantry rifle on full auto... Kinda negates the advantages of selective fire... The M-14 and L1A1 were wonderful battle rifles on semi-auto, but both of them were notorious ammo wasters on full auto.....Sending lots of rounds downrange doesn't help much if you can't hit anything..

Without googling it, I think MDC was made before Stagecoach, which was released in 1939 and was John Wayne's breakthrough film as a big time star... Henry Fonda, however was already a big star, as was Tim Holt, who played another of the Earp brothers.. OOOOPS !! Just googled it and MDC was released in 1946.. My bad.....<<blush>>...

You have the time frame right, Jeff.. Also the same director that directed many of The duke's films... But he did not star in that movie, although several of his frequent co-stars did.... By the way,,, that was Mac Vierra's favortie line from the film...Hehehe...

Tough to judge from a profile, but his flat belly does not say BIG BEAR to me... I'd say 100 lbs minimum and perhaps 200 lbs . max...Probably a 2 year old cub just chased off by his Momma...
