Some stories need re-telling....Many others are better left untold.... I just talked to a classmate who is one of the most successful members of my graduating class and a very well respected businessman... We discussed what a WILD CHILD he was 50 years ago, and he said...." don't go telling stories on me "....And I won't, just as there are a few stories about ME that I would rather have not related... Some stories are just better left untold....

Actually, I saw THAT girl at my 40th, and she still looked pretty damn good...We slow danced and I told her that we should have run off together years ago.. One problem is that her husband is a retired prison guard and is as big as a TANK....Hehehe...

As a matter of fact, I think I am going solo since The Mermaid has said she'd rather not go..... And she wasn't a cheerleader, she was Head Majorette....<< big SMILE>>….

As a general rule, in May, one year old gobblers ( jakes) will have beards from appx. 2" to 5".... Two year olds will have beards from appx. 7" to 9".... As Mooky said, after that judging age by the beard becomes much more problematic due to wear, breakage, etc. Birds in warm climates tend to have somewhat longer beards due to lack of breakage from ice balls, etc.

I will be attending my 50th high school reunion this weekend....Never thought I'd survive this long..Hehehe.. I'm sure that my first question will be " Who the heck ARE all these OLD people ??"..... I have been going through my senior class yearbook trying to refresh my memory...I hope I don't call somebody by the wrong name, especially if that name is someone who's dead....

I agree that good taxidermy is worth the $$..I hate crappy mounts... Since many of my hunts have been DIY, I have had to learn to do my own caping, salting, etc. in the field to keep the trophies in good shape...Spent a lot of time turning ears, splitting lips , fleshing etc. but it was all part of the wilderness hunting experience, along with the meat care....Good memories..... SALT is your best friend when preserving trophies...Always take too much rather than not enough...

I agree, TF....I have always been partial to fur burgers myself.....<< YUM>>...

Definitely a grey fox...They sometimes seem more cat-like than canine...Even the tracks resemble cat tracks, except with non-retractable claws.. I have seen a few...Back when I was calling/hunting them I once shot 8 in one night..

Has Your Scope Ever Made You Bleed?

That reminds me of what JFK said on Nov 21, 1963.... " I need to go to Dallas tomorrow like I need another hole in my head "... -

At least you did not intentionally hold the butt on your jaw... Also, the Mossy 930 is a gas gun and definitely a lighter kicker than the old Browning A5.. I LOVE those old humpbacks, and my first 12 ga 3" mag was an A5 , but with the old long recoil action they kick like hell, much worse than any gas gun... -

The reason I asked this was because one of my hunting buddies had basically the same thing happen with a spring gobbler, and actually held the butt of his Mossy 9300 against his chin and killed the gobbler... he neither went unconscious nor broke his jaw...I am not saying that he is the BRIGHTEST bulb in the pack, however...Hehehe.. -

Four times.....Once when shooting a friend's 16 gauge rem M11 off the bench with slugs. Another time when shooting another friends 50 cal ML off the bench..That time I swore off shooting other people's guns from the bench... I crawled atop of a big round bale one time to shoot a woodchuck about 200 yards away with my M 70 .280...Killed the varmint but also went home with blood running down over my face... The last time was shooting at a doe at a steep uphill angle with my 7MM08...Missed the deer, but I was leaving a blood trail as I left the woods.. I have built up a fair amount of scar tissue between my eyes... Fortunately I have never been bit my any of my really hard kickers, my magnum 12 gauges, my .338 Win mag or my 9.3 X 62...I probably bled the most from the mildest kicker, my 7MM08...Go figure... -
So, is the blood on the stock from the deer or did the scope nail you ?? ...Hehehe....

There's a reason why the Indians lost....Hehehe.....

If dates allow, I will certainly be there....It would be nice to incorporate a fishing trip, if possible, but getting together to drink, eat and tell lies is fine also.... Actually, I really should be there to help chaperone Moog...He's a real wild man and I am not sure that Nomad is up to the task alone...

Never had a problem with voles....White-footed mice ( often mistakenly called deer mice ) are a different story...They and chipmunks fill a every space and crevice they find with acorns, seeds, grass, etc. etc... the Bucket- O -death works pretty good for both...problem is, I can't set them outside anymore because the bears ( another pain in the ass nuisance critter) won't leave them alone.. I am beginning to understand why the settlers killed them all off.. Oh CRAP !! Now I'm starting to sound like the deer farmer...Sorry about that..<<blush>>….

If my Old Fat father were still alive today would be his 97th birthday... He's been gone since 1994 and I still miss him every day..He was my hero.... BTW..He weighed 140 lbs. soaking wet... Fat Father was an affectionate nickname that he actually gave himself...

Yup....Once you get further west than the TRIPLE CITIES ( Cameron, West Cameron and Adrian) things get REALLY wild and wooly....Hehehe......
-
He's a CHUNK, Bionic....Big Ol' bear....Thanks for sharing.... I may know your uncle....Is he from Cameron ?? Naw..Probably not....The Cameron boys send their WOMEN out to chase off bears and sasquatches and such....Hehehe....
