  1. The Mermaid wanted quiche, so I did baby back pork ribs slathered in Sweet Baby Ray's and washed down with Genny light..
  2. I went to the local Trooper barracks last summer and got it done for me and the Mermaid....Very quick and easy then, bit it may be different now that the deadline is approaching....
  3. No problem with me, Goosey... If the Mermaid finds a can that is a month past expiration date, she thinks it is going to POISON her....<<sigh>...

    Diets

Good job, Moog...You gotta be able to fit inside my turkey blind this spring...Hehehehe..

    Diets

I drink diet beer....I haven't lost any weight yet, but I am a very patient man...
  6. In the area where I have fished in Maine, they covet the white perch and throw the yellow perch on the ice for the eagles and ravens... Personally, I liked the whites, but prefer the yellows...

That's what SHE keeps trying to tell me...You're not GAY, are you, John ???..

    Quiche

The Mermaid keeps wanting me to eat quiche...I keep telling her that REAL men don't eat quiche, but she keeps trying to feed it to me.. Think she is trying to tell me something ??....
  10. I just took mine to the local Trooper barracks....Done in about 20 minutes, for myself AND the Mermaid....No hassle and the officer who assisted me was very accommodating..
  11. Shooting dangerous game like brown/grizzly bears, polar bears, lions and cape buffalo with a bow qualifies as a STUNT rather than a sport... You can hunt turkeys with a .410 also, but then you won't need a guide with a rifle with as bore as big as your thumb standing behind you to kill the animal before it comes over and mauls your silly ass for shooting it with your silly little play tool... I don't care how many brave souls have done it...Fred Bear had to shoot several polar bears with his bow before he could register one in the record books...He would shoot them, and then his guide/backup would have to kill them with a rifle to keep them from eating Fred, so they could not qualify for P&Y...
  12. Yeah, you definitely need to be in shape for those hunts, although the terrain in Arizona tends to be somewhat less severe in AZ or NM than some other states, like CO or Idaho, where everything seems to be at a 45 degree incline...When you come down this spring to kill a turkey I will introduce you to a couple of guys ( both of whom have trophy rooms that will knock your socks off) who can be a help to you....
  13. The elk hunt is a real possibility, but you need to start applying for tags and gathering info...A buddy of mine did a TRUE elk hunt of a lifetime in Arizona a couple of years ago...He hunted 13 days and was into record book bulls EVERY day...Killed one about 350 ish, IIRC.... Drawing an Arizona tag takes some time and effort, however...New Mexico also has some super units and tends to be a little easier drawing tags..If you want to get started researching, I have a couple of buddies that would probably share some info with you...
  14. Just raggin' on ya, Biz....I have a buddy who gets sick fishing on the Finger Lakes...Never been affected myself.. When I was in the Navy I felt woozy a few times but never puked...I went through a storm off Cape Hatterass in a destroyer and even the LIFERS were throwing up, but I never did...
  15. That was back in 1994, Dom, and it was not that exspensive, considering the quality of the hunt...The caribou hunting was incredible, out of 12 hunters in camp we took several B&C heads and a couple of bonus wolverines...The fishing was so good it almost became boring..The food and accomodations were great considering it was true wilderness camp...We were only 50 miles south of the Arctic circle... It was very organized..We flew into Yellowknife, spent one night and flew into camp the next day...The hunt price was around 3K, and I think we did for around 4K door to door....Of course that was over 25 years ago and prices have skyrocketed since then... Also, the caribou hunting in NWT has s**t the bed since then, but I suspect the fishing is probably just as good...
  16. AL...Maybe one of us can hit the lottery and we can do this trip together...Hehehehe....
  17. I have been fortunate to do a number of hunting trips to Alaska and Northern Canada that also had phenomenal fishing... One that stands out was a caribou trip to Northwest Territories that included incredible fishing for big pike, lakers and grayling...We caught 2-3 pound grayling on dry flies on nearly every cast and caught 10-15 pound lakers in 18" of water on streamers.. One trip that was on my bucket list, which I'll never do now is a boat hunt for Sitka Blacktails in SE Alaska.. You sleep on the boat, where you can fish, put out crab and shrimp pots, and shoot sea ducks and then you take a skiff to shore to hunt Sitka deer, which in my opinion make the prettiest mount of any deer species due to their beautiful capes... They also are said to provide the best tasting venison of any of the deer species..
  18. I want the guy's shotgun and the girl's rifle....
  19. Is Tim Fralick still making his bombers ?
  20. I stopped at the Legion yesterday to get my replacement beer...One of the guys had gone into the basement earlier and there was a fish swimming around in there...
  21. My current go-to call is a result of our membership in the old forum too, Lee... It's a custom box made by Bob Harwell in South Carolina... Black walnut striker and butternut sides..SWEET !! I have 14 box calls, half a dozen pot calls and a whole drawer full of diaphragms, but the last few years I have used that Harwell box pretty much exclusively...
  22. I never said that you couldn't buy aftermarket 5 or 10 round mags, simply that according to my knowledge, the armed services only contracted and issued carbine mags in 15 and 30 round barring prototypes or such...Are we happy now Stormy ?.....<<grin>>......
  23. I am not an expert, but I never saw or heard of a 10 round military mag for the carbine...The 15 was the standard and most often seen, and then they had the 30 round "banana" mags, which were issued later in WWII and used a lot in Korea and even in Vietnam, by the ROK and South Vietnamese troops..By that time a lot of the carbines were the M1A2 selective fire....
