  1. Yeah, he had a big mean crazy brother, but I think he is also dead now or so elderly that that he would no longer be a threat...
  2. I never breached the subject with him...He was big as a house and prone to violence.....he was the kind of guy who would kill you in a heartbeat if you pissed him off. as long as he thought he could get away with it...He was also a local deputy policeman.... Before one starts running one's mouth, one must consider WHO one is dealing with....Hehehehe... I never would have considered posting this if the said person was still alive and I will NEVER identify him,.. I'd just as soon die of natural causes.....
  3. Tell ya what, TF....You skin 'em....I'll COOK 'em......<<grin>>....
  4. So goes the infatuation with big whitetails antlers... An aquauintance of mine ( now deceased) was so obsessed with big whitetails that he traveled interstate to buy big racks and then had them mounted ( often buying capes from local taxis) and claimed that he had shot them all himself....There is something a little sick about that.... The sad part of it was that he was a very skilled deer hunter and had taken some nice deer himself, but they only comprised perhaps 6 of the 40 + big heads that he had mounted and claimed he had killed...
  5. Paracord is great stuff and I use it al the time...In Alaska we hung moose quarters with it...However I agree it would be too thin to be good for your intended purpose...
  6. I had a swordfight with one under a junked car when I was about 18...I had a WWII Japanese bayonet and the porky had his natural defenses...Let's say that it was a standoff, but I was DAMN lucky not ending up with a face full of quills...It was touch and go for a while there... Alcohol may have been involved... Last year I evicted one from an enclosed deer blind..When I climbed into it he was sitting in my chair...I ushered him out with my Muck boots and rifle butt...I ended up with a couple hundred quills stuck in my boots and my rubber recoil pad... My Dad was an avid coon hunter, so I grew up hating them after spending many nights pulling quills out of big hounds...For years I killed them on sight...These days, I let them be, unless they are being destructive, like chewing on my tower stand..

Hmmmm.. I have heard the fewest shots this year ( 8X) that I have ever heard.... Of course, the numbers of shots heard dropped off dramatically when rifles were legalized here, but still, it has been a very quiet season in my area, and I have been out there a lot..
  8. Too much carnage for coyotes...For sure it was a dogman or a werewolf...
  9. Probably a perfect Alaska rifle....Tougher than a hog's nose....Throw them in the bottom of the raft, use them (literally) as a paddle or a wading staff... Can't HURT the damn things... Add the fact that the 77 action functioned well and the rifles are generally very accurate...I have had several M77s and all but one were sub -MOA rifles...
  10. Those boat paddle stocks are as ugly as a side order of s**t.. Even the sling swivels are ugly !! However, being a wood and blued steel kinda guy, I am admittedly prejudiced... Some guys love the boat paddles, and I admit the synthetic/ stainless combo is certainly very functional.. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beerholder....Hehehehe...
  11. With equal bullet weights it will pretty much match either the 30-06 or the .270, in performance on game , recoil and trajectory... Any differences would be splitting hairs..With good handloads it comes very close to matching 7MM Rem Mag FACTORY ballistics, with less recoil and muzzle blast. Generally, the 140 grain bullet is considered optimum in the .280...However it has enough case capacity for good velocities with 160 and 175 grain bullets, if you prefer them on heavier game, such as elk or moose... I killed my Alaska moose with a 160 grain Nosler partition, but the great majority of the game I have shot with it was with 140 grain bullets..I am currently shooting the 140 Barnes TSSX and I would not hesitate to shoot any hooved game on the continent with that load..
  12. I have one in a M70 Win lightweight ( laminate) That I bought in 1988 ..It has been all over the continent with me and killed everything from Alaska bull moose to woodchucks... What do you want to know ? I handload for it... It has never had a factory load fired in it..
  13. Nothing here in Little Appallachia......... Haven't had as much as a dusting on the ground all gun season..
  14. We did not see pictures of the deer's head from all sides....Note that there is also blood coming from the mouth...The projectile penetrated the deer's head/ neck SOMEWHERE...The idea that a .50 cal can kill from a near miss is just what Treeguy said...An urban legend, promoted mostly by people who know diddley squat about terminal ballistics..
  15. Cool, Larry....I got a permit in 1968 but did not kill a gobbler until 1975... Unfortunately, I don't have any early permits, but I DO have a deer party permit armband from 1967....
  16. A 50 BMG 750 grain is about 2800 FPS.....About the same as many normal deer chamberings, sich as the 30-06, 308 and many others..What gives it the WHUMP is the fact that it is a 750 grain bullet, compared to a 150-180 grain... That guy is as full of s**t as the werewolf/dogman/ bigfoot dude that has recently departed the forum, claiming he was a victim of cyber bullying...
  17. AND that picture wasn't taken in Florida....Hehehehehe...
  18. Sure does look like a barred owl to this old country boy....
  19. I have had the privelege of sampling Culver's snack stix....So good you wanna SLAP yo MOMMA !!.....
  20. Ain't nuthin' cuter than a beagle pup....Except maybe....Well..Never mind.....<<grin>>... Nice pup, Paula !!
  21. That was my evil twin.....If you believe in Bigfoot and aliens, SURELY you must accept the existence of evil twins... I apologized for him on page three anyway... Been nice chatting with you, and don't let the door hit you on your big hairy butt on the way out.....
  22. What do plan to use it for ? If you want to hunt deer with it in NY, I can see no advantage of the 6.5 over the .308 out to 300 yards, except for somewhat lighter recoil, which shouldn't be a big issue with a semi.. If you plan to shoot at longer ranges than 300 yards, the 6.5 begins to have some ballistic advantages...
  23. Definitely coyote....Foxes don't walk like that..
