  1. The French fought very bravely during WWII... However, thier tactics were based on WWI strategies and they were overwhelming outclassed by the Germans' modern Bliztkrieg tactics... They did inflict very heavy causualties on attacking German forces, and the courage and stubborness of French rear guard forces at Dunkirk allowed several hundred thousand British troops and a significant number of Free French troops to escape to England.. Many French resistance fighters displayed great courage fighting the German occupation forces, and paid a very heavy toll, including the death of many innocent civilians in the hands of the venegeful Germans.. Do the French tend to be arrogant ? Yup... But they are not cowards...Too many brave Frenchmen have given thier lives to support that ... Read your history, boys and girls.. That said, I reserve my right to have fun at the expense of ANY race, nationality or ethnic group. If you want want to read something really funny bashing nearly all nationalities, google up " Foriegners Around the World" which was written by P. J. O'Rourke for the National Lampoon back in the mid '70s...A true classic...
  2. Just for conversation sake, those little hawks are American kestrels, also known as sparrow hawks. They are North America's smallest falcon.
  3. An aside from that... In France, a factory that was the primary maunufacturer of white flags has burned down, effectively crippling the country's military capability.
  4. We have perhaps a foot on the ground....Drifted deeper in some places. A couple more inches tonite.Gonna have to clear the sidewalks again tomorrow.
  5. People have gone to far lengths to eradicate coytoes.. Shooting, hounds, shooting from light airplanes, baits laced with stryhhicenene( sp) little guns buried in the ground with cyanide pellets, traps, snares, yada yada.. The coyotes thumbed thier noses at all of these methods, and PROSPERED.. We AIN'T GONNA get rid of them... Shoot 'em if you want..Thet ARE fun to shoot.. But don't think you are going to get rid of them. At the end of the day, we'll still have some coyotes and we'll still have some deer..
  6. Yeah , Philo....Like that little red dude with the horns and pitchfork who sits on my shoulder and whispers in my ear. Some of his ideas sound GREAT, at the MOMENT......
  7. Sorry about that, Pilgrim... My bad.. This thread has gone on for quite awhile and there are 3 different posters reporting poor accuracy with thier BARs.. No wonder some of us got confused... Not to mention that the microwave keeps heating up this plate in my head...And then there's the VOICES......
  8. Sounds like a good example of " It it works, don't FIX it "...hehehe..
  9. Killing those five is going to increase reproduction.. They're barely even DEAD yet and they're sniffing each other's butts...
  10. Have you ever tried the specialty loads like the Hevi-Shot "Dead Coyote" ? Did you pattern different chokes/loads, or just use what you've got ? I'm guessing that with those long legged walkers, you don't necessarily have to kill the critter outright, just slow him down enough for the dogs to get him.. I have never run coyotes with hounds, but years ago ( pre-coyote days here in the southern tier) I did quite a bit of fox hunting with hounds. There are quite a few guys around here now running hounds for 'yotes now..Sounds like lots of fun to me.
  11. Very interesting..Thanks for sharing the info, Jennifer... Lymphoproliferative...Trying saying THAT three times fast...LOL..
  12. What size shot do you favor and what is a good sure kill range for your shotgun ? I realize that this will vary from gun to gun, but what is your personal gun/load combo ?

    Wooly

Is that deer wearing a MULLET ?
  14. About 8-10 inches here, the biggest dump we have had all winter so far. It is a lot wetter and heavier than the last snow we had. The Mermaid and I just finished digging out .Still some light stuff coming down, but I hope that most of it is past us now. I have some walleye filets ( the last package from last summer) thawing out for supper.
  15. I sure can't understand the pass play at that time.... At least one more running play would seem to have made more sense.. I'll bet the Seahawks are thinking about that right now... HOWEVER, it was one of the better Superbowls I have ever watched...
  16. With MY luck, I'd come back as a worm and my ex-wife would come back as a chicken....
  17. Yeah, it must be cabin fever...Sorry, Growie...<< blush>>....
  18. Heck, Growie herself has called me an a**hole, but that was a couple of years ago before we became sweet on each other.. ....<< little HEARTS floating around>>....
  19. Yeah, me too...But that was WAY in the past. I have also been called lots of other names by women, most of them unprintable.
  20. Ya never KNOW !! She could probably use a good laugh...
  21. Mr VJP....The STUMPAGE report is where a bunch of old farts like you and me and a few others on this forum line up and drop our drawers for a photo. This is opposed to a TIMBER report ( sometimes called a WOODIE report) that we could have qualified for a few years ago when we were younger.
  22. Yeah, antelope are considered vermin by many ranchers in Wyoming and other places out west. However, that doesn't stop them from charging hunters $1000 or so for the privelege of hunting the varmints on thier land.
  23. Yeah, armored dildos...Also known as "possum on the half shell"... One came shuffling past me once when I was down in Georgia hunting hogs...I really didn't want to shoot the critter..For one thing, the 9.3 x 62 I was carrying was kind of "overkill".. So I decided to try to catch him, as I had run down and caught many possums in my misspent youth. I lay my rifle down and took off running after the critter, which was about 20 yards away in open woods.. I quickly learned that armored dildos could run MUCH faster than a pudgy, short legged, middle aged white boy. That was about 15 years ago..I have had the good judgement not to try to run down ANYTHING since.
  24. I asked an older friend of mine, " Howcome as I get older I don't gain any weight, but my waistline keeps expanding ?... His answer was " Gravity"....hehehe..True story...
  25. Can I present someone else's opinion.? I have a friend who belongs to a deer/turkey hunting lease in Georgia...He has invited me down a few times over the years after deer season to hunt feral hogs. His defintition of vermin is anything that eats deer, turkeys or deer and turkey eggs. This includes coyotes, bobcats, foxes, coons, possums, armored dildos, skunks and feral hogs. He never mentioned crows, ravens, or birds of prey, although they would certainly come under his definition as nest and poult predators. I never shot anything but hogs...
