  1. Nope...wasn't Hansen....Perhaps Jordan ?? I'll keep guessing until I get it right..Hehehe..
  2. Kinda like a 25-20 on steroids....The record typical whitetail for many years was taken with a 25-20....I believe it was the Hansen Buck...??...
  3. Just in case you are on the level, Cathouse = whorehouse, brothel, house of ill repute, etc....
  4. Do we really have a chance to vote out the Wicked Witch ?? If gun owners vote in a block, that would be a good start...She's not all that popular with other folks either...
  5. "Practicing" with a rifle offhand or without a solid rest is fine.... But if you think it is an indication of which of 4 bullets group the best, you are pissing in the wind.... You need a rock solid bench and rest to eliminate the human error...
  6. The 7-08 is not a hard kicker, but it definitely kicks more than a .243....No idea on ammo availability..Most of my rifles have never had a factory load fired in them....
  7. When I was hunting caribou in NWT in 1994, my Inuit guide showed me a video on his camcorder of his son shooting a big polar bear with a .222 Rem... Dropped him like a rock with a shot right behind the ear...That's not to say that a .222 is a good bear rifle, however... Another aquaintance was hunting polar bears in northern Canada with a .375 H&H mag....He told me his Inuit guide was "backing him up" with a 22-250....
  8. A Nosler Partition or a good monolithic such as Barnes X type would certainly have resulted in a kill with that shot placement... I am somewhat surprised that the bullet was 95 grains and did not perform better than that... Most 6MM bullets of 90 + grain are designed for deer sized game, unlike the lighter ones that are designed for varmints... I wonder if a varmint round was inadvertantly loaded, rather than a deer round...??
  9. Your two story blind is a redneck masterpiece....I love it...Hehehehe....
  10. USS Moale, DD-693,,,,,WE were home ported in Ft Schuyler and our mission was training reserves........I don't recall the Lloyd Thomas..Where was she home ported ?
  11. Check with bugsnbows..he's our resident entomologist
  12. Maybe you can give me a break....Last time I stopped there ( for a coffee to get me back to my ship) was about 4:00 am on a night in 1972....I had a shipmate with me and as we left the diner, a cruiser with two troopers in it pulled us over... Fortunately, we were sober, but one big ass trooper kept going through our duffel bags saying " Got any pistols...Got any pistols ??...." He may have been our accidental Governors father, or maybe grandpa...
  13. I stopped there often in 1972-73 in my commutes between home and my ship home port in Ft, Schyler da Bronx...Usually about 3 -4 AM.....
  14. I did my first one ( Alaska float trip for moose and caribou) in 1989, when I was 39....Over the next 20 years I hunted New Mexico and Colorado for elk, Colorado for elk and mule deer, Wyoming for pronghorn, New Brunswick and Newfoundland for moose and deer, Northwest Territories (Ca) for caribou, and northern Quebec for caribou... I also did four more Alaska hunts , for caribou mostly... If my moldy memory doesn.t fail me, I've shot 2 moose, 2 elk, 2mule deer, two pronghorns, and 13 caribou.....And I dont regret a penny that I spent on my hunts....
  15. Kills just as well at 50 yards as it does at 350 yards...With recoil closer to a .243 than a 30-06....
  16. I never owned a Mossberg Patriot, but my buddy from Ontario has one in 30-06...I have been beside him when he killed 4 deer with 4 shots...Not necessarily close range shots either..The closest was about 100 yards and the farthest was about 275, all from my tower blind..
  17. You'll never regret going to the 7mm08.....Kills well....Shoots flat enough for 300 yd + shots.....Kicks noticeably less than other chamberings capable of similar performance, such as .270, 308, 30-06, 7 Mag, etc....
  18. Do they still publish those ?? I still remember the ones I had hidden under my mattress when I was 14...The ones that had the pages all stuck together...
  19. Ain't no flies on the 30-30, out to 150 yards or so...However there are are probably 50 +other chamberings that you could say that about...The main appeal of the 30-30 is the light, fast handling little carbines that it is usually chambered in..
  20. Good luck, Rob...I have a feeling way down in the bottom of my loins that you'll get one tonite... Wait a minute....That feeling may be.......Never mind......
  21. Just because they released otters does'nt mean you DID'NT lose your mind.....
