  1. Happy birthday, ya Big Chooch !!.....
  2. Sounds like problem solved...
  3. I'm not a golfer, so I am not familiar with the course, other than driving past it..However, a golfer friend of mine told about seeing a goose in distress on one of the ponds there..He approached it and saw that a big snapping turtle had latched onto one of its legs... He waded out and beat on the turtle with a golf club until it released the goose...Hehehe...
  4. I recall catching blues from the Destroyer Piers in Newport RI in 1971 and 1972...How old were you then Chef ??... Hehehehe .. Knock off was at 1600 hours...We would beg a bit of whatever meat the cook would give us and use small pieces of that to catch 6" to 10" tinker mackerel from the pier... Then we would rig up the mackerel with a wire leader and an 8/0 hook and toss it off the end of the pier for big blues...Great fun...I'd give my fish to the Phillipino stewards who cooked for the officers and if I was lucky they would invite now and then when they cooked some up..
  5. The only place I have seen them here in NY is on the Finger Lakes..They seem to prefer clear water here rather than the swampy areas where you find snappers...California Ranch on the west side of Honeoye is a good place to see them this time of the year...They are quite wary and will scramble into the water if you approach too close. They can run really fast compared to other turtles...
  6. June is the month for snapping turtles to lay their eggs....There is a road within minutes of my house along a marshy area where you can see dozens of them along the road digging in the gravel to lay their eggs... The softshells are doing it too...I know a gravel beach on Keuka Lake that I call "turtle beach" because you can often see 50 or more softshells at a time this time of the year doing their thing.....
  7. Rotten commie liberal bastards...!!!....
  8. After applying for many years, I finally quit a few years ago...I know lots of people who have applied for years and still do, but I only personally know one person who has ever drawn, and he is a Maine resident ( and licensed guide)...
  9. Geeze.....I wish I was going with you ( along with some Grillo's pickles).... We would catch some pike for sure....BTW are you cute ??.....Hehehehehe....
  10. I heard they taste like chicken....
  11. One of my Canadian hunting buddies has one in 30-06...Tackdriver..I have seen him kill 3 der with his with 3 shots, and they weren't close range shots either....As far as the 7mm08 goes, Lawdwaz and I have lots of good info on that....
  12. They're the worst that I have seen them here in Dogpatch since the bad breakout in the 1970's...The Mermaid and I were up on the property yesterday and most of the oaks are nearly bare already...No acorns again this year...
  13. Holy crap.....Dat's a BIG ol' kittycat..!!.....

In 1962, on my first trip to Canada, I asked the owner of the cottages where I was staying what he caught all his bass ( smallmouths) on... He had immigrated from GB and had a very distinct British accent... He told me he used " JIT- er Bugs and OOLA poppers"..... He only fished at night...

Some of my fondest bass fishing memories involve using jitterbugs at night...This was in the early to mid 1960's.... I'm not sure if I even have a jitterbug anymore...
  16. When I was a kid at home and acted up, I got my ass kicked.... When I acted up on the school bus, I got my ass kicked.... When I acted up at school I got my ass kicked.... When I screwed up in the service, I got my ass kicked... After awhile I decided that following the rules was easier than getting my ass kicked... Possibly a general lack of respect for authority has something to do with today's problems..
  17. I was with a friend on one of the unstocked Cohocton tribs and he caught a tiger... Mill Creek near Perkinsville also has some, but I have never caught one there, or anywhere for that matter..
  18. Over a period of more than 50 years, I have hunted turkeys in six states and one Canadian Province... I have hunted private land, state land, Crown land, National Forest Land, and State Park Land.... Turkeys are turkeys wherever you hunt them...A few come easy, but you have to work for most of them, public or private.. All I can say to the people who claim that private land gobblers are easy, is come up to where I hunt and see how well you do on these poor ignorant turkeys...
  19. Must be nice.....I've been killing gobblers since 1975 and have shot a bunch, but never passed up a two year old in my life, unless he had a bigger one coming behind him...
  20. I grabbed one a couple of years back by the neck...I thought he was nearly expired, but it turned out he had lots of life left... Going hand to hand with a 20 pound gobbler is not recommended, at least for old, out of shape guys....
  21. Going out tomorrow morning with a buddy who has a line on a couple of gobblers.... After that I will hunt the property one more time...Gotta go up and pull the blind anyway, but it has been very quiet up there this season.. Monday I am headed to Onieda for walleyes for a few days...Sounds like a refreshing change from sitting in the woods and hearing no gobbling..
  22. It's a CRIK, dammit....Only city boys say " creek"....
