I have had the same exerience as jusputten... I was given a large quantity of quality military 30-06 brass ( Lake City).. I managed to de cap quite a few cases with my standard decapping pin, but it eventually broke. I would advise buying several heavy duty decapping pins. They are not very expensive. So far I have managed to remove the crimp with my standard RCBS chamfering tool , but it requires quite a bit of elbow grease..I suspect that a swaging tool for this operation would be a good investment, if you have a lot of military brass to deal with. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you ALL for your well wishes... I can't wait until Noah is old enough to start fishing and getting interested in the outdoors. He stands to inherit a pretty good gun collection...<<SMILE>>...

I just returned home from Massena, where my daughter presented me with my first grandson last night at about 10:30 PM. He's 8 pounds, four ounces, 20 1/2 inches long and healthy as a horse.. Good lookin kid, too. Takes after his grandpaw..<,grin>>.. On my way back south I tooted my horn at Bubba , Four Seasons Whitetails, and tughillhunter as I came back down rt 11 and rte 81..

Fishers are becoming more common here in Steuben County. Several of my friends who trap have caught and released them. One buddy of mine has some good trail cam pictures of one near Campbell, and another hunting buddy saw one while squirrel hunting. I have seen the photographic proof, but I am still waiting to see my first one in the flesh.

I have never even SEEN a LI deer, much less eaten one. However I have killed a few "big woods" whitetails from southern Potter County PA,where it is predominantly forested with very few farm crops. They tend to taste stronger than my local farm country whitetails taken here in Steuben County, which have much more access to farm crops.

Exciting news Rob...Welcome to the world of handloading..

I just like a bullet that I am confident will EXIT...Often well hit deer run 100 yards or so before expiring, and as far as blood trails go, two holes are better than one. That can make the difference between recovering a deer or losing one, especially in the dense cover that I hunt, unless you have the luxury of snow, of which there is no guarantee..

I've seen a number of posts like this..My ex wife (for 35 years) has a master's degree in teaching reading.

Officers are ( and should be) allowed some judgement calls depending on extenuating circumstances. Perhaps the police felt that there was something more involved in your Dad's case than a medical emergency. In any case, if he possesed the firearm legally and there were no other violations involved, he should be able to get his handgun back with no hassle. -

Deerthug....I think my concealed carry permit allows me to carry my firearm concealed and loaded in MOST places in public and private. I am aware that there are certain places , such as schools, certain public buildings like courthouses, etc. where it is not allowed. I do know that it is legal for me to carry a loaded handgun in a vehicle. Of course, this does not apply to Westchester County or NYC... -

Ditto... Not that I would ever consider such a dastardly act... Everybody knows that an unloaded handgun or long gun is a MUCH better defensive tool than , say, a baseball bat, a machete, or a single bit axe. -
If they taste anything like frog legs, I'll buy some... Hmmmm...I wonder what the ideal IGUANA RIFLE would be..?.. Perhaps a .22 short hollow point ?

An African hunt for a honeymoon..??.. Sounds like you landed yourself a GOOD one there, Grizz.. Congrats in advance..

I have posted this several times, so please forgive me for sounding like a broken record. I am not an expert but in nearly 50 years of hunting it comes from killing or observing other people's kills somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 big game animals, ranging in size from pronghorns and small whitetails to Alaskan bull moose. A center , broadside heart/lung shot will VERY SELDOM drop an animal in it's tracks, regardless of what firearm/ projectile you are using. They nearly always run from 15 to 100 yards and then pile up. If the bullet STRIKES or passes VERY CLOSE to the shoulders, or the CNS (brain or spine). The animal will drop in it's tracks. Quite often a deer will drop at the shot from a high lung shot because the bullet or fragments of it pass close enough to the spine to affect it. A bullet OVER the spine will often drop a critter, but in a matter of seconds or minutes it will usually get up and run off, and may even recover from such a wound. I have butchered my own big game animals for years, and I always pay attention to the effects of the bullet wounds.

Tell us about your Africa trip, grizz...

I am a short black fellow who wears a loincloth and a bone in my nose and my favorite "deer gun" is a blowgun with poison darts.. JUST KIDDING.... Actually, one of my hunting buddies, whom I affectionately refer to as "Fungus Face", gave me the name of Pygmy, because I am vertically challenged ( 5'6"). We were on a DIY hunt in Alaska at the time..When I was carrying a heavy load of moose meat, he called me " The Packin' Pygmy". When I cleaned out the tent after eating moosemeat for a week straight, he called me " The Stinkin' Pygmy".. When I started playing around on these internet forums, the handle "Pygmy" seemed like a descriptive and distinctive handle,,

I liked it... Of course compared to me, Madonna is a YOUNG chick... I was disappointed that she didn't wear her ice cream cone bra...

A friend of mine was into M/Ns for awhile and he had several that were very accurate..Depends on the barrel of your rifle. Some of them were used/abused more that others. If you are lucky enough to get one that was a Finnish rearsenal, it may even have a fairly new Sako barrel on it.

Interesting... I only ate goat once... In 1977, I was in Monterey , Mexico, on business for the firm that I worked for. I went out to dinner with some of the locals from the plant, and I had kid goat. They served me a hind leg from a small goat.. It was very good.. Reminded me of cottontail rabbit in flavor..

Beautiful bird and great pictures, Dave....Thanks for sharing... I love birds of prey..

No doubt that it is very accurate.. I was not aware of the Israeli military interest in it, but I can certainly see the utility of the cartridge as an automatic weapon round. Short action and capable of using a heavy enough FMJ bullet to penetrate light armor.. Thanks, Steve..

Jhog...I have been searching the net for info on a Marlin 336XLR in .35 Whelen. I am not doubting your word, but I have been unable to find info on a Marlin 336 in this caliber. Let me know if you can find some info..
