  1. You ever think about fishing the Hudson river in the Spring,They are there before heading south to L.I. 50 pounders are not uncommon.
  2. Good advice given , also it could be a good time now and ask about preditor hunting in the areas in and around there, you might get a good idea of what's around.
  3. Just got back from from replacing the cards in the trail cams,2 young ones munching on the clover and mom was bedded near by, rode up to then about 10 yards then the moved plus 4 more bedded on the other side of a stone wall they didn't even bother to get up, good size one was a shed on one side buck.
  4. www.pyramydair.com/blog/2005/07/how-does-cold-weather-affect-different.html Here is the answer on cold temps. Looks as if the PCP type is the type to buy .
  5. I have used a 1" wide piece of leather that I coat with polishing rouge for years on all of my knives after stoning them some are home made out of some of the best tool steels available, some are German made, some are Swiss made and one Jap. made.
  6. That hunting season is over for them here, eating and resting 50 feet from the road.
  7. I do not see that happening because they will have less hunters if the do.Are they going to take the deer after they are shot and donate them.Who is going to pay for the processing of the 2 does and a possible buck. There are many people that like to hunt and live on L.I. that are just about able to pay there bills month to month that are living with there relatives to have a roof over there heads or live in small rented rooms. And do not have chest freezers to store the meat from 3 or 3 deer. Or even have room for a freezer. It is very easy for people that live hundred's of miles from somewhere to make comments on how to do something in an area that they have never seen or been in.
  8. I do not know if you ever hunted on L.I. But You Can Shoot as many Does that you want before you shoot a Buck. On the DEC controlled lands.
  9. Caumsett Does Not allow hunting and never did. it is for hiking ,fishing. Deer that were shot there were shot by head hunters that left the bodies and sold the heads and or antlers for cash. If you look at a map of L.I. broken down into townships. You will notice from the town of Brookhaven out to the North and South Forks comprise of a large part of L.I of which is still a large amount of farm land or land owned by them, which they let the DEC use for co op areas. Now if you look into the owenership of a good amount of the property in the towns in Westhampton, South Hampton , East Hampton. The Big money properties, Who owns them. Not people that live there all year long.A lot of big business people, actors, singers ect. That go there in the Summer. That could afford to have there precious plants protected by other means. The same people that get there beachfront properties repaired every year after a storm by the Army Core of Eng. that we pay tax dollars for.
  10. Barronett Grounder 350 is what I am looking into ,Same height X 90" x 90" footprint. Midway had them for around $160.00 M30
  11. Ok here are a few we did years ago but not legal in shotgun only areas. We made 3 of them out of 410 dbbl.bbl.shotguns from Italy a 35 Rem. a 30-30 and a 45 long colt. All were meant for close range shooting. We machined bbl liners of each caliber to be press fit into the original bbl's by heating the original bbl in a controled furnace and the liners ib a freezer. We then adjusted each gun by cutting the bbl's shorter to hit the bull's eye at the distance we wanted all had scopes also.
  12. I guessing you are a younger man than I and still are full of the piss and vinegar which I have much less of these days Very true,I retired 10 years ago, figure out my age by that, and you have a lot less.
  13. When I bought my .25 which is a break open type,I was going to get a .22. But the sales person recommended the .25 for the purpose I wanted it for.And I am glad I took his advice, very happy with it. I also have a pump type .177.
  14. 15 here tonight and 06 the next night and a sunny 20 degrees for Christmas.
  15. You cannot imagine how much LI has changed. I have a very good life, I still love the Island And .L.I. still has a lot for me, but it's changed unbelievably. It's too much to list. I grew up in Nassau County not far from the city. At that time there were still working farms in the area and a dairy in town.My grandmother had milk cows, layer chickens and meat chickens ,ducks, she sold meat and milk. And that was in Nassau County also. I shot my first pheasant with my bow when I was 12 years old in an area in which they later built very expensive houses. There was also a land fill that they would allow people to go to after there working hours with 22 rifles and shoot the rats.Of wich I also got one with my boy. So you can imagine how much I have seen it change.
  16. Special Firearms Deer Season in Suffolk County
  17. .25 seems a little to much for a pigeon they cant be that tough, I just dropped a red fox at 40 yds. with my .25 and a 26 Gr. Polymag. They are one of the reasons we have no rabbits by me.
  18. Hit the Car restoration websites might find a place faster that way.
  19. That sucks, it is 56 degrees here now going up to 60, most of the snow is gone.Going back to normal weather Monday.I guess it is a good thing living on the side of the hill at 2000 + feet.
  20. Same here with my Ruger 77,only thing more to do is just take the bolt out.
  21. Thank's you guys just reminded me to buy some pickled herring for the new year, old tradition, eat them on new years eve or day and it is suppose to bring yo luck. Most of the time they have it up here in jars olive oil and onions with herring pieces. Yummy. Have a merry and happy one.
  22. Wow you just cannot find a Remy. action long or short anywhere, I spent a few hours on Google searching.Even used complete rifles are not that cheap.I have had a few blueprinted some with aftermarket bolts, triggers, ect, and some stock parts. Both long and short actions. They were a little smoother then stock but still did not compare to the after market clones of the Remy.action which I had on some custom rifles. Not cheap but nice and smooth.
