    Sleeping

The older you get the worst it gets.I stopped the sleep aids do not want to turn into a junkey, go see a doctor first, you might other health issues causing it..
  2. This is going to be long. First it depends on your age and medical condition.Tight fitting polyester as a base layer stinks.Polyproplyne is better a open weave or fish net is the best it lets the moister escape from the body.M,wool as a second layer is good. Again your health condition. On top of that heavy wool might work or a wind break liner with insulation in side of a quiet shell. I still like wool its quiet and is warm when wet. After that Preditor Falf Grey again with a wind break liner.I do not like fleece I think it is a trade off. material. Now at or below 0 degrees, the warmest is made by Wiggys. it's like being inside of a down sleeping bag.I am 70 + years old and have tried every type and brand of clothing and boots out there. And have blown away a lot of money doing so.

    season over

Not over here yet, cleaned and oiled up the centerfire rifles and put them away and took the smoke pole out and ready for the late MZ season.
  4. They are out there, they have been bedded down most of the daylight hours. But not that many, thanks to all of the doe permits given out in previous years. Most are less then 2 years old.Only one 3 point on one side or better on the trail cam this year and that was during the beginning of bow season.I am a few years older then you but still out there every day weather permitting doing something. This is what I am seeing on my property.
  5. Congrats, the freezer is almost full, keep piece within the family and enjoy the meet.
  6. Question for all of you that buy firearms at the big box stores. How many of you take them right out of the box and go right to the range and shoot them to sight them in.Then take them out to hunt with?. If we had the temps. that we are going to have this coming week, that would not be a wise thing to do. Reason is at the factory they are assembled with a rust preventive grease.Ever pull the trigger and the round did not fire. That could be a reason it did not in cold temps. Most of the gun shops I have bought firearms from would ask you to pick it up the following day, they would strip it down and clean all of the parts and lightly oil them with gun oil then re assemble the firearm. And if it had a scope they would bore sight it.That is the difference from buying in a big box store and your local mom and pop store. $330.00 is a good price, can't beat that.Do yourself a favor and strip it down and clean it. Watch out with light trigger pulls make sure your safety is on. I had a rifle slip and fall out of a wooden platform in this kind of weather 15' up in the air as I was getting up from a sitting position, it hit but first hard enough it broke the wooden stock, with me starring right at the barrel, thank god the safety held.
  7. 55 You are a spring chicken, wait till you get the age of SOB and I.And the shot that hit the tree very near me was on private land ( came from the private property next to us.) The friends of the owners son. I have to say we have hunted a lot of state land and hunting land run by DEC and it never happened there lucky I guess.

    back to bow

It could be true. Many years ago they had a mount of a 21 point buck taken in Suffolk county hanging in the Check Station in Ridge with some other impresive racks.
  9. Reminds me of when I had my son ( then 12 years old ) at a friend's and he shot a Origional Tompson on full auto.
  10. Venison Crock Pot Stew tonight ( MMMMM ) Good.
  11. Congrats, Larry 302. Years ago we went into the woods in the dark ( now I wonder why) Light shining to see where you are going,One time I will never forget. We went in 5:30 AM it was dark ,posted at the edge of a field. At 10:30 right behind me a spike buck gets up from behind a downed tree 10 feet behind me.He just lied down there, For who kows how long. Quiet as a mouse.
  12. Here is my skinner I made it 45 years ago, High carbon tool steel ( light above ) ( glare ) ruined the picture. Did a lot of skinning with it.Wash with soap and water and dry right away. and they will last.
  13. X2, You are not talking about an animal with a lot of bone mass , the bullet will exit not much larger then it went in. Someone I know recently shot a Yote at close range with a 180 grain 30 - 06 ,The bullet went in and out just about the same size and it dropped in it's tracks. Doc I would no hesitate to use the .270 also.I have seen an all white Yote shot with one,If you look at the mount you never could tell it was hit with one.
  14. Nothing to get upset about, I know people that have hunted deer for many years without harvesting or seeing any.Sounds like you found a good spot.
  15. I would be upset also if I got set up in a spot and 2 people came walking by, But ( was it a 1 car parking spot ) There are a number of spots that are more then 1 car parking. Did one of the people that claimed to be tracking a deer have a dog on a long leash ?. When I lived and helped track deer on Long Island, NY. With a Deer Search member. We would meet a person that shot a deer ( most times the afternoon before) the morning we met. We would go to the check station and inform them that we were going to parking spot XXX to track a deer shot the day before by XXX, they would tell us if a person was there already hunting, be careful. And it was light out at that time. We would take only our truck or car.to the spot. When we arrived there and parked we were required to put a sign on the dashboard with the trackers name and NYS Leashed Tracking Dog Lic. number. So the rangers or police driving buy would know who the vechicle belonged to. The two people tracking the deer were doing the ethicle thing. But were doing the wrong thing by parking there without permission to park or be in that area.
  16. Same here waiting for Grandmom or Grandad yo show up.
  17. My father in law who was a butcher most of his life would bring 4 things over to cut up a deer a sharpening steel, a heavy kliver, a 5'' boneing knife and a 8'' knife. He was constantly taking a few strokes on the sharpening steel on the knives after a few cuts of meat He did a lot of boneing and trimming.Brand is not important, keeping it sharp to get a nice clean cut is.
  18. Call the NY State Police and ask if they will dispatch the deer or call Deer Search Inc. It is legal for them to do it. After hunting hours.
  19. In my neighborhood the are on the same list a Yotes. Most of my neighbors have or had chicken killed by Fox one of them lost 15 chickens last year. And another almost the same amount. For these people that is part of there income taken away. They are very crafety and find ways to get into the fencened in areas an coups.
  20. I had a 4 pointer a few years ago, when starting to gut it it stunk realy bad, called the ECON officer he asked was this deer shot a week ago because of the bad odor and you could pull the hair off of the skin, I said no I just shot it, he said someone else gut shot it before you with a small caliber bullet.
  21. Congrats youn fellow, nice bear, will make a nice rug.
