  1. I'd love to mow my lawn once this year without it turning into a mud bog instead.....
  2. I don't see much of a problem here. If you could get a taller stand in there it would be better but it's still not terrible. Cut some tree limbs up that will hold leaves for awhile or even a few pine branches and zip tie them to your ladder stand frame. I usually take a few branches and jam the ends where I cut into the holes in the metal mesh platform and lean them out and away from me. You can tie them down with zip ties to make sure they stay leaning away from you. If you really wanted to blend in you could even zip tie branches along the ladder rungs and such. I've seen it done to try and hide the ladder sections. For 30 mins and the cost of a bag of zip ties it's the best kinda camo you can get lol
  3. Glad to hear! Those Wilson products sure are good. I'm gonna pick up a new antenna for mine to bring up to my buddies camp where we get 1 bar or no service at all.
  4. The guide school I went to in Montana had a neat double stall outhouse. Instead of being side by side and having no privacy, it was built back to back with a wall in between. So basically two 4x4 outhouses back to back. Shared the same hole underneath. If I ever have the need for a outhouse, that's how I'd build one. With kids and friends that come along to camps, ya never know when you'll need a second seat.
  5. If he's not too Henned up he will come. Weather looks perfect today for some gobbler chasing. I think I'll head out behind the house again or maybe cruise through the state land after I get home from work.
  6. As others have mentioned. Almost a endless amount of state land available to hunt within a hours drive of Albany. Just pick a spot on the map and drive there and go for a walk around. You'll stumble into some birds no doubt about it.
  7. This reminded me I need to get some stuff together to build a bale blind. We made a few out in Kansas years ago that worked awesome. Deer pay no attention to those things. What are you using for the grass? Actual hay or they imitation stuff you can buy in rolls or whatever. I haven't made up my mind on which way to go with that.
  8. I like it! I need to get a new dremel and try a few things I've always wanted to mess around with. Keep up the awesome work! Love seeing this stuff
  9. Hahaha damn I'm a dumbass. How the hell did I forget that!? Hunting lots of states is awesome, except for the huge variations in laws it's easy to forget simple ones like that. Good thing I missed!
  10. Not the greatest picture of me holding the bird. I was by myself. Had to jam my phone between some tree branches to hold it still and set the 10 second timer and run back to the bird haha. What a awesome hunt though. I walked back to the edge of the farm fields but took a wide approach and stalked up to it very slowly in case they were already out in the field. I got up to the edge of the fence with a blown over tree in front of me as some cover. There was a nice rock to sit on which was nice and comfy. I sat down and waited about 5 mins before doing a few clucks and yelps on my pot call. My 2nd set of yelps and I get cut off by two gobbles about 2-300 yards to the south of me. The wind picked up so I waited for the wind to calm down a bit before calling again, maybe 2 mins. I got 2 seconds into a couple yelps and the two gobblers let loose and were only 100 yards away at this time on the other side of the field and headed my way in a trot! I was like "oh sh*t". Quickly pull my face mask down, no time to get gloves back on. Pick the gun up and watch them gobble, Trot and strut right to me. I waited till they got real close, like 4 yards away from the barrel close haha! Rolled the first one and pulled on the second one but sent a bunch of shot into a tree/bush in front of me. The 2nd one flopped but got up and took off running. I was gonna go for a 3rd shot but by the time I got on him he already ran 40 yards and took off flying into the sky. Had to jump through the electric fence, damn does this side of the field have some juice flowing to it! Hunt was over 5 mins after sitting down. The walk took 5 times as long haha! I told my wife the new boots she bought me at gander mountain was the good luck charm I needed after getting the slip several times this year already by this flock. One down and one to go. I cut the fan off this one and I'm gonna make a nice fan mount with the beard. Beard by the way is 10 and 3/8 inches! The spurs weren't anything crazy long though. Didn't weigh him but I'd figure around 20 pounds. What a great morning!!
  11. Tapatalk sucks and photos aren't working. Will have to figure out another way when I get back to the house.
  12. Hope and pray turkeyfeathers! I just got home from work. Gonna suit up and take a walk out back shortly.
  13. I read an article late last night that said camping world owns the buildings but did NOT buy the inventory. The inventory was bought by another party, a liquidation company who is controlling all the pricing. Unfortunately they will most likely not slash prices enough to really empty the places out. Sounds like what's left on closing day will be trucked out and dispersed to other retail outlets. We shall see though.
  14. 20% off footwear at the moment. But ya better go soon as inventory is dwindling quickly. I was about to walk away without any because I could find a size 11. Wife checked the display boot and it was a 11. Hunted down an employee and had him find the display box in the back with the other boot.
  15. True that. Won't find me out on that day ever. At our union contract meeting last week, our utility guys(cleaners/floor sweepers-aka unimportant) were pushing to switch our Veterans Day holiday for Black Friday instead. The rest of us just shook our heads and asked not to be associated with such people...
  16. Probably should of gotten up this morning but that rain was coming down hard at 430. Decided to catch some sleep instead. And the fact that if I did go my right foot would of gotten soaked from the new hole in my rubber boots. With all this rain, there's no other option for footwear. Trip down to gander mountain this afternoon fixed that problem. So I'll be out tomorrow morning with a new pair of boots that will hopefully bring me some good luck! Congrats to everyone who shot one today!!
  17. Funny you say that. While we were browsing around I told my wife that it looks like they jacked up the prices and then slapped 10-20% off on it. If they had some actual deep discounts I would of picked up a bunch of stuff.
  18. It can be a lot of work at times. They can be incredibly difficult to hunt. They change directions, stop gobbling, run away, all sorts of stuff with little to no warning. Sometimes you'll have two toms come in gobbling like crazy to your calls, only disappear behind some brush 40 yards out and then never be seen or heard from again. They are amazing at slipping away into thin air. But the fact that you can use calls to communicate with them makes it really cool. When you get a hot tom that cuts off you calling less than a second into it with a gobble, it can get your heart rate pumping! Generally the weather is a bit nicer this time of year to, so that makes hunting them much nicer compared to freezing in a deer stand. Not having to worry about being scent free or even all that quiet is nice too. And yes, carrying a turkey over your shoulder is MUCH easier than dragging a deer haha
  19. Where outside Albany? Get out onto public land. Do some walking and calling. It will take time to figure out exactly where to go but that's what it's all about. There's tons of state land around, just have to look at maps of them and plan out some areas to search around. Look for areas that border private farm fields or that have fields on the state land. Toms like to strut around in open fields and work around his hens. It's a good place to start at. Roosting them the night before a hunt can help as well. Basically all your doing is listening for them to fly up into their trees for the night and trying to pinpoint exactly where those trees are. You return the next morning well before sun up and sneak into their bedroom so to speak. Get set up and hope they fly down into your lap. Obviously all this stuff doesn't always work out they way it's supposed to, but that's the general idea. Before they fly up and right after getting up into the trees they will usually gobble and the hens might yelp and make some other noises. This is what your listening for. In poor weather like rain or high winds, you likely won't hear much of anything. A lot of times if I'm looking for the flock I'll try and find a high point in the road around the state lands to park on and listen from. You can hear them from a long ways off on a calm wind night. This can help get you closer for the next day.
  20. Well we took a drive down to the Kingston store on this rainy day. Sales suck. They sure aren't in a rush yet to get rid of anything. I did pick up a new pair of rubber boots just because I really needed new ones since my other pair split the other day turkey hunting. A lot of other people there griping about the lack of good discounts to. I never really realized how over priced they are for a lot of things compared to cabelas.
  21. Any idea if the gander mountain credit cards still work?
  22. Start off with hope and pray this rain doesn't drown my food plots into oblivion.... Buy 2 hang ons, 1 ladder and hang those in a few new spots for this year that I think will do very well after some post season scouting. Hoping to build a elevated box blind for those late season hunts with the muzzleloader. If my big field ever dries out, get that brush hogged and tilled up for a nice brassica plot. Get my bow in for a tune up and a new string. Another half dozen arrows and a couple packs of broadheads. And a bunch of practicing. Can't wait for Oct 1st!
