  1. So you could shoot a hunter who is carrying a gun in Texas for trespassing? I don't think so. Having someone break into your house with a gun is one thing, but shooting someone outdoors who appears to be hunting, even if he is trespassing, without any sort of other threat to you would probably put YOU in jail before the trespasser.
  2. Well, you probably get to hunt a lot more than 90% of the hunters out there, so you are more selective and careful. I will bet that another 90% of hunters out there, be they bow or gun hunters wouldn't let that 12 pointer (or even a much smaller deer) walk by once, never mind twice. Just doesn't happen in the real world. We can think we as hunters all think rationally and of ethics at a moment like that, but that would honestly be asking way too much of most hunters out there. Not defending them here, just telling it the way I see it. Most hunters would shoot, say his "Hail Mary's" and hope for the best. Might not be saying much about us hunters as a group, but hey, I'm just telling it the way I've seen it and it honestly matters little on the experience level of the hunter from what I've seen. The IQ's of many hunters I've seen isn't very high to begin with, so asking them to make rational decisions when they have a bragging size buck in front of them might just be a bit too much for them. Sad but true.
  3. I tell you, and then sometimes people try to convince me what upstanding citizens hunting has in it's ranks. Yeah, some are good, but still WAY too many bozos out there. I simply can't think of another pastime or hobby where such nonsense happens!! Unbelievable and pathetic!!
  4. Of course instilling in our kids what others should never do to them is very important and certainly can help prevent such crimes. As far as all kids out there being able to fight out of a situation like that, I don't know. Maybe some can, but I wouldn't count on every kid out there to be able to floor a strong male adult and I wouldn't want to think of how it might enrage these perverts and what else they would want to do to these poor kids. Most recommendations I've read on what kids should do is to go find another adult, who is removed from the situation and tell them. Not an easy situation to be in for a kid, that's for sure.
  5. I think if you taught every kid karate out there, these things would still happen. Kids unfortunately can be easily persuaded at times and they don't always have to be from broken homes either. It's a crazy world out there. These predators can be anywhere, many times it can even be relatives. You drop your kids off with your sister-in-law for example to baby sit them and her husband, boyfriend, son, friend can be one of these perverts. These bastards can hide better than any leopard in the jungle searching for its next meal. That is why anyone who has the smallest of suspicions needs to speak up as soon as possible if not faster.
  6. I could care less about college sports and have always wondered why many college coaches were idolized the way they were. Many are made out to be some sort of Gods. Way too much power is given to them. This Paterno got what he deserved. Maybe he didn't commit the crime, but I can't believe he didn't know something was going on. The guy was his right hand man, NO way he couldn't have suspected something. Simply way too many of these perverts out there preying on children. So much of it is swept under the rug, that it really makes one think how much more of it might be going on out there?
  7. Well, I ain't one of them. I have shot some respectable sized bucks. Do I know what they measure? Absolutely not, nor do I care. I have shot smaller bucks, and even does, that stand out in my memory more than the big ones. I am happy with any deer that I get. That is why I tell people to just hunt, enjoy, and don't worry about any stupid antler scores. I find it downright funny how some of you have all your bucks measurements memorized down to a fraction of an inch. I bet many of you couldn't give us your wives, parents, childrens, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. as well as those antler scores? LOL
  8. Did .308 ask you to bring up the archery hits? LOL
  9. At least he didn't have to burn his tag. That was one SOB landowner, that's for sure. Maybe one should ask permission before going onto someone else's land in a case like that, but if a landowner wants to claim the deer that happened to wander over to die, he surely isn't going to win any respect from me either.
  10. Did your friend have to tag the deer with his tag and then give it to the landowner?
  11. Hunting within NYC limits will never happen. I just can't see it. Why would any hunter want to subject themselves to the uproar and circus that would be created during such a hunt? I'd rather hunt on a deserted planet with no life at all, than to hunt in the type of scenario that would be created here!
  12. I really think it is a good idea to use a light while walking in, most especially on public land. You never know what kind of idiot could fire at something moving without a light, thinking that it's a deer. If you have a light on everyone knows it isn't an animal moving.

Told you boys that's how a wife would react! Hopefully by the summer she will want to be frisky again! LOL
  14. Boooo!! I hope I didn't scare some of you pansies! LOL
  15. Because I have been around this game a long time now, and have observed that the hunters who could care less about "inches" are the ones most content when it comes to their hunting. There not the ones bitching and moaning that the guys down the road are shooting all the small bucks and that they aren't getting a chance to grow. Everyone can obviously hunt for what they want, but it's the guys who talk about the "inches" who will be screaming about how the other hunts well before those who could care less about measurements. And it's been proven on this site time after time.
  16. I'm sure even a spike buck thinks he's a "booner" when there are no other bucks around! LOL
  17. All I will say is that you guys better be damned glad your wives/girlfriends aren't stuck up on inches as much as you seem to be. Many of you probably wouldn't be the "shooters" they were looking for! LOL
  18. Why get stuck up on some silly measurements? My suggestion is to just enjoy hunting and be happy with whatever you are lucky enough to get.
  19. Maybe you know MORE gun hunters who have lost deer outside this site, but if you just kept things within this site, I would say bowhunters losses have outnumbered gun hunters losses by a wide margin. At least from the ones who have admitted to losing deer with either weapon. Maybe bowhunters are just more honest, I don't know? I am predominantly a gun hunter who has taken up bowhunting again after never being very serious about it when I did bowhunt the first time. I mainly took it up again because it allows me a chance at a deer of either sex, where doe permits in my area are not very easy to get anymore. I will still hold to my personal theory that it's a whole lot easier to lose a deer with a bow than it is with a gun. And I am talking about hunters who are skillful with either weapon here, not just those who never practice at all. A good rifleman's odds of putting down the deer for good is better than it is for the good archer in all honesty. There are more things that could go haywire when you let an arrow fly compared to a bullet. Anyone looking at it honestly really can't argue with this. Not knocking bowhunters or bowhunting here, just calling it the way I see it and talking about shooters with some skill and not those who pick up their weapons only when they are out hunting. Losses will happen with any weapon if you hunt long enough. I just think the possibility is greater with a bow and if everyone is really being honest here, it has also been proven by the posts to this site.
  20. Lots of outdoor type activities could be done for WAY less money than that. Hunting probably has always been more costly, especially if you are going to a distant place, but it just seems to be getting ridiculous in my opinion. I'm glad it's your money and not mine.
  21. Wow, $5K for a muley/antelope hunt?? Back in the late 80's, thru mid 90's you could have had the same hunt for $2K and even less. Good thing I made a few trips out there back then instead of now. NO way would I be paying this kind of money, plus the high cost of airfare, licenses, the hassles. It's become a big money game, that's for sure.

You might be right. I wouldn't pass it by him. I'm sure he knows every trick in the book. LOL
