  1. I have a suspicion that Friday and Saturday may just turn out to be the best two days hunting of this entire gun season. Calm winds at last on Saturday and snow and ice is expected for Sunday, so just maybe those deer will finally move.
  2. Are you going to shoot it or sleep with it...lol Well you know Culver, if you think of guns as women that could be trouble. Guns are alot like women though, some are made for hard work and some are nice to look at. The key is to find a balance between the two, one that looks nice and shots well...wait am I talking about women or guns I forget? Either way I prefer something that is easy on the eye's especially if I am plan on keeping it around for awhile. Good analogy, Doe. I swear there are guys out there who would rather be sleeping with their guns instead of their wives or girlfriends. Talk about oils and lubricants. Maybe with the right combination of the stuff they might be able to.
  3. Burt, Culver and I actually don't know if our 11-87's would cycle the third shot or not because we have always bagged something with the first or second shots. LOL Just kidding there! Steve on the third shot we already have two dead ducks and were lookin' for the third to drop as well!! ;D Yeah, the Remington's have a game killing sensor built into them to prevent game overkill. It knows that you killed two ducks with the first two shots, so it malfunctions on the third shot all in the name of game conservation. Do the $1200 Beretta's or Benelli's have such a smart feature?? I don't think so.

  5. Same here! I need a new gun like I need a punch in the nose, so I won't be spending $1200 on any new gun any time soon!!
  6. Man, this is crazy! For $87 I would expect a bow string that will last forever AND a Victoria Secrets model in a G-string to come along with it. LOL
  7. Yeah, none of them are cheap these days. I do think you can still get a no-frills "sportsman" 11-87 for a good deal less than the others. Whether one wants to pay an extra $500 for less weight is one's own choice I guess. Light weight surely does help when you carry them around a lot, so if I were buying a new one maybe I would go for it.
  8. What I'm waiting for is some of the AR proponents here to post photos of the trophy bucks they shot in their AR units this season. They keep telling us about the many big bucks that are now roaming these units, don't they?? Lets see some of them. Maybe THAT will turn some of us into believers. Their other BS sure hasn't, that's for darned sure! LOL
  9. Yup, I've had one since 1989. Never had one single jam or problem with it. For the price, which is a good bit less than a Beretta or Benelli it can't be beat. The one advantage the others might have over the Remington is weight. These newer Beretta's and Benelli's do weigh considerably less which may not be great when one shoots a magnum turkey load, but it sure helps when one is lugging one around.
  10. You guys have got to be kidding! Close to $100 for restringing a bow?? What are these strings made of?? Gold strands? If my string goes on my 1990 bow, I think the bow and all the rest of my archery equipment will be thrown in the trash. Archery equipment is too darned overpriced in my opinion!
  11. I definitely agree that this mentality has been around for years. Some hunters get all offended when people call us low-life's, but hey I've seen enough hunter low-life's over the years to know that there is a lot of truth in the accusation. I have participated in other outdoor activities over the years and absolutely NO other pastime has the amount of jealousy and greed that hunting has. Yeah sure, there are the jealous and greedy type in ever pursuit in life, but I don't think any other pursuit has anywhere near as many as does hunting. I don't know what it is, and why hunting seems to attract such people, but this mindset is alive and well and has been for a long time. I am sorry if this will offend many here, but the truth can hurt sometimes.
  12. I tell you. Some people seem to get lucky at last light, but where we hunt we might as well NOT hunt in the afternoon. Probably wouldn't make much difference. Almost all of deer we have killed have been in the morning. Any deer we have shot in the afternoon have been earlier in the afternoon, so if we left the woods at 2:30 we probably would have killed the same amount of deer!
  13. I hunt for meat. Was lucky enough to kill one during bow season and my uncle got one in gun season and gave me the meat. Two deer in the freezer will easily last me until next season. Could care less about killing one for antlers only on the remaining tag I have, so my decision is an easy one. I will leave the butt freezing conditions to others for the rest of the season!!
  14. That's why I suggested that it wasn't even a dead buck! He might be on his way to the sperm milker!!
  15. I hunt 4P. Saw a good amount of deer before the gun season, but now they seem to have vanished. 3H and 3J are AR units aren't they? From what some who hunt those units say about the benefits of AR's on this site, one would think that you fellas would be seeing plenty of smaller bucks, if not the big boys??
  16. I would doubt that this deer was shot anywhere in NYS. My hunch is that this deer isn't dead at all. Maybe just tranquilized and being transported to another deer farm where these type of freak antlered deer usually live.
  17. That is why I don't put out cameras OR plots. Why get overly excited about what deer are doing before hunting season and then think the same deer will be walking in front of me when I'm waiting for them with a gun in my hand? At least I don't ever get my hopes too high this way and then get disappointed in the end. I could see few to NO deer just the same without having to spend the money and time on cameras and deer food. LOL
  18. There are no guarantees in baiting bears either. Like baiting for bears, food plots are intended to at least try to attract deer to a location. We've been thru this argument on this site before. Darn few people feed deer out there just because they want to make sure they don't go to sleep on an empty stomach. The vast majority feed them because they want to try to bring and keep them on their properties in order to shoot them during hunting season. I am not saying it is right or wrong, only stating the reason food plots are put out.
  19. And that's just another problem hunting on windy days. I am sure that even if deer do move, many of us will miss seeing them unless they come real close. Our senses get overly distracted with the noise and all the movement of everything swaying back and forth.
  20. I killed a bear in Canada once a good many years ago now. Have absolutely NO desire to kill another bear whether it was conditioned by humans or not. I think a lot of hunting these days is done with human conditioned animals. Wouldn't food plots for deer be similar? Many states allow bear hunting over bait. Any feeding of wildlife by humans is human conditioning in my opinion.
  21. It is usually the bears that eat human garbage that grow to be that big. Truly wild black bears don't reach 800+ lbs.
  22. I have not seen a deer the entire gun season. ZERO for seven days of hunting!! First time in a LONG time that has happened to me. I am hanging it up for this year. Have had my fill. The best hunting decision I ever made was to take that old bow out again this year where I was lucky enough to kill a deer, or otherwise I would have JACK to show for this hunting season. My life will now return to the regular scheduled program! LOL
  23. I think cold weather can get deer to move. Wind however pretty much kills movement where I hunt and this year we have had pretty much nothing but strong winds. I can't remember a season with as much wind as this year.
  24. Yep, sure seems like a gal with some experience in related matters. Absolutely masterful technique!
  25. I don't see an issue with brown pants either. How much worse than camo pants can brown pants be?? I WOULD recommend a blaze orange vest and hat, however. They cost only a few bucks and they surely are worth the added bit of safety.
