  1. Don't recall ever getting it this early (7/30) before? My son's didn't arrive today though. Hopefully soon...
  2. Cabin Fever

    early

I take my kids hunting to share with them what I love to do and hopefully plant that seed in their head. Of course they ask questions, but you want them to. It's sparking interest! I love sitting in a 2 man stand or a blind with my son or daughter and whispering back and forth as they get excited to see something. That's spending one on one quality time with the kids! Sure is different at home when they are too busy with friends and video games to sit down and talk to you for any length of time!
  3. NICE!! Gotta thin them out, by any method!! I have them burrowing under my sheds at camp. Took one out last week with my .223. Planning on setting some traps this week!
  4. I wonder if this was the first time these particular deer in the video had encountered a trailcam? I can see that it would get their attention, looking new and out of place to them. I suspect the longer you use trailcams and the more the deer encounter them, they become accustomed to them, seeing that they aren't a danger. I've been using trailcams for 10 years on my property, so really, for all their lives they've encountered my cams. I've certainly seen some negative/cautious responces, but others, not so much. Kind of curious and not sure what to make of it, but certainly not "spooked". If you were concerned about the deers reaction, placing the cams higher would help. Or maybe we just need to take more time and camo our cam setups better, so they blend in more. (ie. twigs with leaves to break up the edges) I think these videos were from last year. (Same buck, vids just seconds apart) Certainly not spooked, but definately curious...
  5. It might have been a cam bait from last winter, so that cam may have been pulled late winter or spring.
  6. Ya gotta watch the whole thing! It was MUCH more traumatizing watching it as a kid!
  7. You've got some great bucks around! Should be an exciting season for you!
  8. Whatever it is, it looks pretty nasty!! LOL
  9. HELLO??? Did you not see Stephen Kings "IT"?? Pennywise traumatized me when I was a kid!
  10. Tresspassers SUCK, even if they are just hiking! Let them know they are not welcome!!
  11. I was looking at a Primos decoy (Scarface?). Both the head and tail moves with a slight breeze. I don't want one that looks too intimidating. I'm in it for the meat.
  12. Of the few deer that I've seen in my foodplots, they've all come through early, feed a bit, then head off towards the ag fields before dark, so they were out of the plots before I climbed down.
  13. Those copperheads can have a short temper and they don't give a warning like the rattlesnakes do! I hate snakes! When I was a kid in PA, my parents just made me so paranoid about watching for snakes, as there were a lot of copperheads around. They just drilled that into my head! I still have nightmares about snakes!! LOL
  14. Does anyone use decoys, either buck or doe? I have a couple of spots that I think would be great for a decoy setup. Been thinking about getting a decoy to try now for a 3-4 years now. Just haven't made up my mind.... Don't want anything too intimidating.
  15. I'm wondering if it could have something wrong with it internally? Maybe a growth or tumor? The pic just looks like it could have something different going on with it, other than just "fat".
  16. This is crazy! You don't know who or what to believe!?!? I would "think" if the news is reporting it, and if it wasn't 100% certain yet, the DEC would immediately issue a disclaimer or something??
  17. ..... it dawned on me how lucky I am that I don't need to be concerned with poisonous snakes in my area!! I was out trimming around a couple stands today, stepping over logs, tripping through rock piles, wading through briars, and trudging through brush where I couldn't see where I was stepping. How nice it is, not having to be on high alert worrying about poisonous snakes!! I use to hunt in PA and I would NEVER have been so care-free walking through the woods this time of year, as I was always on the lookout for rattlesnakes or copperheads!! I'm sure other people in different areas of the state aren't so lucky? Do you need to be mindful of poisonous snakes where you hunt?
