  1. With the tri-fecta on schedule tonight, do you guys have some stories to tell? I bet animals will act differently tonight, probably more spooked or irritated...fire away...
  2. Hey Wildcats, I would go out tonight to that spot with the Winter Solstice on schedule and Lunar Eclipse tonight I bet you a dollar he will back there...
  3. Valid point Doc, it makes sens what you saying about their behavior after opening day. Do you (or anyone else) know if this is the same case in the areas with bow hunting only? (e.g. Westchester County) There is no shot fired throughout the entire season so I guess the deer will be less spooked than gun areas. Am I correct?
  4. OK Doc, so when this state ends? Will I have more luck in the ML season?
  5. I have been out every chance I got (about 15 times now) and definitely lack of hunters is not the case I see tons of cars at the state land ...the deer however seems spooked by all the shootings. Archery season one doe almost walked over me but in the last 2 weeks I have not seen a deer (except the one I hit with my car on the way to the stand, call that a good luck :-)) and I'm not alone, a lot of people I have been hunting with also came up empty. I'm talking 4-5 guys having problem to fill a doe tag, not sure what's going on but they are out there just hunkered down for some reason...
  6. Congrats. What county are you in?
  7. I also do it for the organic food, then the antis have nothing to say :-)
  8. I don't really care what kind of equipment I carry when I'm out there, whatever is allowed, NY State took that freedom away from me (bow/gun/ML or stick:-)). I'm trying to enjoy the outdoors and yes I do kill animals once in a while, so what? Why such a taboo about killing, we are at the top of a food chain after all, thinking otherwise would be foolish. I have bunch of friends who are against what I do, we just don't talk about it and we stay civil and continue to be friends. Personally, I try to not give a %#$$ what other people think because all that social correctness is big BS. I work for a global conglomerate where half of executives I know are avid bowhunters yet you can't use the credit card (issued by my company) to purchase any firearms, at the same time we have govt/military contracts to design devices dedicated to mass murder people...so you catch my drift...anyway, I like nature and outdoors and my hobby includes termination of some creatures existence, I'm not loosing sleep over it....What's next? ban fishing...??? LOL
  9. Wait, not sure if you told us the entire story... "...only to find out that he could not hunt with it even with a doc. slip..." Why exactly is that? Other than that it sounds like a grumpy old man...that's all :-)
  10. OK, antler restrictions, I get it now. Hmm, interesting fact the we don't do that for does, how can you remotely verify the age of a doe, I guess one have to use own judgment if its tall enough or not....I get the antler restriction part, thanks for the explanation
  11. "....Terry J. Hofferberth, 43, who says he has no permanent address and lives with friends, was arraigned..." Scary stuff right there, maybe he shouldn't be thinking about hunting in the first place....
  12. When I hunt, I'm not in the office and that's a good thing :-) Seriously, just being out there, battling the elements, getting back to old school nature, even if 9 out of 10 you come empty it is all about the hunt....
  13. They lived in a free state, we ain't...

    Flat open fields ?

You are correct Martin, Rifle of any caliber is OK before or after the deer season. For example Oct 1 you can hunt coyote in Putnam and Dutchess but when the deer season starts (any deers season including archery) on Oct 16 you need a shotgun until after New Year then you OK with Rifles again. I wrote to the DEC to explain this to me and they did a great job, so I'm sharing this here...
  15. I got my super sportsman the first day they were available :-) my first choice DMP got nothing, second choice I got 3F, not bad for the first time DMP buy
  16. I used to work in Massapequa before I moved upstate, where do you fellows hunt? state or private land, I guess for you is bow only huh? How is the state land down there, crowded or not?
  17. Hey Rich, Thank you for sponsoring this site...so how does this work? I kill a dear in Dutchess county (hopefully :-)) and then what? I gut it and drive to Long Island to drop it off? Since you also do the butchering, heck, just give me back the back straps and you can keep the rest :-) What are your prices anyway, say a dear head on the wooden board or a full bear skin as a fireplace carpet...??? Let us know Thanks again Mark P.S. I used to work in Massapequa, oh brother I really miss The American Burger on Merrick Rd, :-)
  18. I second Bill's notion, one of the CT hunting forums has just that and it is awesome, DEC cop guy stops by every now and then and answers all questions, it helps tremendously, I know few guys at DEC I will reach out to them and see if they are willing to participate. Setting like that works extremely well, these guys are in the field all day and they can tell us things like:"...yeah, I would arrest you for that..." LOL or maybe "...if you kill a yote out of season we will not give you grief..." un-officially of course... Good idea Bill
  19. Thanks John, Well, I guess we have a new home now, just don't disappear like Empire did, if you do I really will need some serious counseling, LOL Thanks Mark
  20. Look at license sales. Its pretty obvious. Do you have a link handy? I checked DEC website and couldn't find it...
  21. Another one from Dutchess here, moved in from Brooklyn 7 years ago and never looked back :-) I hunt in Dutchess (Stissing, Hereford, Lafayette, not much else is here) and also in CT since I'm close to CT border (Dover) This year I will jump on the bow bandwagon and expand a bit to catskills at least they have more land there...
  22. I heard that DEC said that we gain 55 hunters for every 100 lost, so how is it possible that woods getting more crowded, how was it 20 years ago Doc? Was it better, worse as far as overcrowding goes...or maybe we have less hunters but then almost all of them hunt, instead of list 1000 members and only 50 hunt, don't know that's why I'm asking...
  23. How about Stissing and Lafayette? They are north enough not to be bothered too much, they look good on paper, anyone got any luck there?...let me know...I'm a local guy so I can be anywhere within minutes...Hereford is too much too handle...simply too crowded for my taste..
  24. I don't know about you fellows, but bow hunting is good for all weather...me personally (being European) the colder it gets the better it is... I love single digit hunting...it's tough on you and it's tough on he game as well...so, bring it on...
