    Bear Hunting

I spent the weekend in Adirondacks, Schroon Lake area, lots of tracks, scat but nothing was moving at all, it was too damn hot! 75 degrees in the woods on Sept 24, that was brutal I was executed by mosquitos and I still smell like deet...

  7. $1200 for the entire deal? ain't that too steep? Just saying....
  8. Hi Fellaz, Have a quick question regarding Pheasant Release program, the season starts Oct 1st but I have read on DEC website that they will still release some on Oct 9/10. What's the etiquette on these days, you just don't hunt and let DEC do their work or do they close the place for hunters while they releasing the birds? I can't imagine that releasing the birds and shooting them at the same time is a good combination. Let me know, Thanks Mark
  9. OK, here is the scoop. We all know that shooting from the motor vehicle is prohibited in the NY Republic. But how about if this stand is located on your trailer that is no longer attached to the vehicle that towed it. What I mean by that is this: you have a 10-15ft deer stand mounted on your utility trailer. You drive to the field, leave the trailer with the stand at the desired location and park your car 100 yards away. It is technically not a permanent stand (which is kosher on any state land) and it is not attached to anything (well, except the trailer :-)). I have analyzed the DEC regulations backwards and forwards and could not find a word regarding such setup. Do you fellows have any experience with that? I will call DEC and I will inquire regarding the same, just wanted to get your take on it.... Regards, Mark
  10. Sweet, I know where you gonna be first thing bowhunting season starts :-)

  14. Most importantly, you were out there welcoming the day. That alone is worth it to see, hear and smell, that's amazing in my book. I grew up in the city and just discovering the awesomeness of the outdoors....I think I'm addicted now for good :-)
  15. Good story noodle, congrats on the bird. But where are the pics? :-)
  16. Thank You Fellows, Oh yeah, I'm as happy as they come, BTW, one part of him just came off the grill and it was delicious....the rest is in the freezer. It was this website and you guys that have motivated me and kept me going forward, persistence paid off. Now, I'm hooked for good, I truly appreciate your help here. Mark
  17. I'm in Dutchess/Putnam area we actually see more birds this year.....no dead birds I saw (well except that one that met me:-))
  18. Left the house at 4:30, quick 20 min later I was walking up the hill to the area where I thought I heard them....a quick recon call from primos hand caller...yeah he is gobbling. I have now learned not to overcall I did that mistake the opening day only to see a bird, hear two gobbles and then he shut up for good. Not this time :-) So, I hear him in the distance, way too far, so I sit down by the huge tree and call him again 10 -15 seconds later he responds so I shut up and let him come closer. 3 min later I see him flying over to the left and settling down. I gave him a quick soft nudge to show where the hens are and he gets it and is walking over. I freeze, I have my safety already off, ready to make a shot and only need to lift the barrel few inches, waiting for him to clear few woods and coming into an opening, 30 yards away is my kill zone, he walks in, my heart is pumping like crazy, so I breathe to relax, BOOM, I got him good... My first Turkey ever was 21 lbs, 8 inch beard, 0.75 spurs.... I'm going to use bow for the second one. Thanks for all the good info and knowledge sharing on this website. Mark
  19. Joe, this is 10 years old study, I'm just not really sure how this is relevant today....a decade is a long time to change the pattern, just saying....

    Putnam County

Well, let me eat my own words...I went out this morning for some last days of Pheasant and let me tell ya, the snow was deep, I was going as deep as my knee on occasions, all wet and drippy, hard to walk around in general. Making long story short I saw nothing and got tired after a short hour. I think it will take a month of warm weather to melt thins thing down.... anyway, it was good to be out this morning...
