  1. Great job! You got me all ready to smoke something this weekend now
  2. Looking good. What did you use for a rub?
  3. Don’t forget to keep us updated. No pics then it never happened lol
  4. What thermometer are you using? I put an oven thermometer on the grate for a more accurate temperature. Thrones built in aren’t always that accurate. I always wanna know what the temp is at my cooking surface not the temp right under the hood
  5. Matt I have a few pics I need to send you that were taken on that piece you hunt just to the east of me. Guy I’m friendly with sent them the other day
  6. At 225 you’ll be somewhere around the 4-5 hour mark but don’t go by time, go by what your meat probes says. When you hit 160 double wrap with the HEAVY aluminum foil. Your entire cook should be about 8-9 hours. Like I stated earlier, I would want to have it done by 4 o’clock and just take the entire wrapped butt and wrap a beach towel around it for 2 hours.
  7. I run my butts at 250 until I hit 160 then double wrap with heavy aluminum foil until I hit 203. After that I take it and wrap it in a towel for 2 hours before I shred it. Trust me, leaving it wrapped for 2 hours allows juices to flow back and won’t dry out as fast. Also it will still be so hot you’ll probably need gloves to handle and shred it. I’d want my butt done by 4 for a 6 o’clock dinner. I usually inject and rub mine the night before with either a mixture of pineapple juice and white sugar or apple juice and white sugar.
  8. Here on Long Island we’ve never really heard of not treating. I understand each region is a bit different but it’s nearly impossible to hunt here without Sawyers. We don’t typically get the early frost like they do upstate so we have no choice. If I put branches in with my clothes with my luck I’d be dropping chiggers in there lol. As far as using local brush as a cover scent, that’s all great but if you have a bad wind it don’t matter what you have they’ll pick ya
  9. He’s here everyday so I’m sure he’ll disappear day before the opener
  10. I got away from climbers and now use a hang on with sticks. I can definitely get up a tree faster and no longer have to cut away my cover like you do with a climber. Unfortunately here on Long Island you’d be lucky to have a ladder stand up for a week before someone steals it. I do use mostly ladder stands and pop ups for clients though. Only reason I’m comfortable doing that is because the farmer really patrols his farm
  11. I know what you mean about devoting the time, it’s tough. Fortunately for me, both my dogs will be used for guiding so they’ll be hunting literally everyday right through until April 15th
  12. Great pull but I don’t think you have enough wildlife on there lol. Awesome pics
  13. It’s a shame what the Feds did to the deer herd in Lloyd Harbor. It used to be a little slice of heaven up there until that “hunter group” started dropping letters in mailboxes which alerted lots of homeowners that they have hunters near their homes
  14. Thanks! Wish I could give him 2 more years, the genetics are definitely there.
  15. You know what really put this over the top is I smoked garlic also. Then dropped the garlic in a pan with butter over charcoal. When I seared the steaks I did them over charcoal and basted with the melted butter and garlic
  16. Did a reverse sear smoke with some 2.5# Tomahawk steaks
  17. Thanks Grampy! She’ll literally be on birds everyday from mid October straight through until mid April
  18. Thanks Jerkmann. Picked her yesterday and when I was there she was pointing a pheasant wing in the breeders yard
  19. That’s why she’s going for gundog training, to avoid that. I hear ya though. I’m more concerned that my wife already put on a pink collar and has a pink leash for her but I’m the only one that walks the dogs smh. At least she named her after my favorite beer
  20. Just picked up our Dusty W Kennel GSP yesterday. We have a 1 year old GSP and when I brought Stella home it was like they were long long friends. Cooper is one of my upland guide dogs and Stella will be doing some smaller hunts by November
  21. Found the mother load today as I was checking trailcams so figured I throw out the trap
