  1. The neck and rump,The two places coyotes will take down a mature deer.I would say he was attacked by coyotes. The pack chased him,one or two grabbed on to his hind quarters another bit into his neck,But he got away.
  2. Exactly,And they never give the viewer full discloser at the beginning of the show to say that they are hunting at a high fensed operation. It's always in Texas or Iowa or Kansas.Never from NYS or PA.And its always the final moments of the last days hunt with the sun going down that they kill the big one.But I guess they give the viewer what they want.Big racks and kill shots. On one of Jim Shockeys shows,He was fuming when he heard that his cameraman didnt get the impact shot, i.e. the bullet hitting the side of the deer. But we watch them anyway.

    Owl

Several years ago, while sitting 20 feet up in a stand,A snow white owl landed on a branch in the tree next to mine.He stared at me for a minute,Then glided through the woods and out of site.He was a fellow hunter out doing the same thing I was doing.I hear them all the time in Suffolk County, hooting while walking into the woods just before dawn.
  4. Monday in manorville 6:30 to 11:00,Nothing.
  5. I guess all hunting is local. From my stand in 3H,It did not seem like an average opening day.Not as many shots as usual.I guess the AR and lack of doe permits has the action a little slow.On the ride home on 17 and then all the way to LI,I did not see a single deer on any vehicle,Very strange for opening day.
  6. BTW,I was on stand from 6:30 until I saw him at 3.Patience does pay off.Good luck to all,I guess I'll go bow hunt Suffolk now.
  7. After 5 years of AR,With little in the way of a substantial increase and size of the buck population,From my stand any way.I said this would be the make or break year for my continued support of AR.After dropping this guy today,Maybe it is working.
  8. After a slow and unproductive bow season, today more than made up for it.From 7am to noon, saw 8 does.No doe permit.3pm,This guy comes running by chasing a doe, despite grunts ,whistles,Both would not stop.I fired at the moving buck,15 yards,And hit his throat which severed his wind pipe.
  9. weather looks great for saturdays opener, sunny and 47.But the wind concerns me.7 to 10 mph with gust to 18 mph.
  10. Good luck to my fellow 3H comrades.Heading up this evening.Lets hope the locals havent thinned the herd too much.
  11. The weatherman says it's going to be sunny sat. and sun. ? You know what that means......Its going to POUR!!
  12. The rear leg of that ''coyote'' is much bigger than the front.Like its used to standing on its hind legs like a raccoon.picture 3,Are you near a river or lake,It could be an otter.
  13. lack of minerals in the soil make it a poor agricultural area, hence not a great area for big racks. The AR should help with that.Deer numbers are debatable.Burmjohn is seeing great numbers and I'm less than a mile away and seeing very little deer action so far.

    Elk in 3H

That was a year ago, nothing since then.
  15. was up today, depsite the 67 deg temp, had 4 does walk directly behind me this morning,Wasnt expecting them to come from that direction. They were very skittish. One caught my movement and they took off.saw one spike also.Tons of them back in town waving to me goodbye as I drove out.
  16. give them time, before you know it,we'll have coyotes on LI.hey their being caught in manhatten, which means they had to cross a bridge or tunnel to get there.
  17. My 5 ptr I shot last Nov. in Lake Huntington was filled with corn. That buck would have to travel pretty damn far to find a corn field near me.Sorry,I don't buy it.Some one is baiting up there.
  18. went out this morning,6:30 -12:00.saw 2 does.pretty warm, still a lot of leaves on the trees which made visibility poor.I noticed a ton of acorns dropping today.this must be a bumper crop year for acorns.they cover the floor of the woods.
  19. that does sound logical. But I've seen this before in past mid oct. hunts. The rut has not kicked in yet,So their not being chased around, weather still fairly warm, and no killing frost yet to kill the grass .Their in the open an hour before sunset,That should change in a few weeks.
  20. hunted 6:30am to 5:30 today in Lake Huntington. All my usual spots. In a word dead.I saw a total of 1 deer and that was at sunset.Drove through town and there they where, dozens of them in the open fields.I guess their hanging near the fringe all day because there not deep in the woods.I've experienced this in mid October before.
  21. Does any one know if C&B archery in hicksville is open on the 16th?.being that its opening day upstate, perhaps there closed.Gotta get a few arrows.
  22. She screamed because she didnt know what was more alarming, the bear outside the house or you running around in you underwear!
  23. people who run when confronted are not innocent,Ive learned this from 20 years of law inforcement experience.
  24. Geno, the Polish season doesnt open till November 1st.........only kidding guys..no hate mail ,please.
  25. after calling the police,I would have waited until their arrival to confront them. Why risk your safety.Plate, make and model comes first before a confrontation.
