The one down side to all the bears is that I have 2 rugs already and my wife will kill me if I take another.It's going to be hard to watch a big bear walk by. :-[

Actually,I had 2 run past me early in the day that had no idea I was sitting there and then walking down the logging road,Heading back to my truck,I ran into a big one,Stared me down,despite waving my arms and yelling.He was the biggest one i've seen yet.He had shoulders on him and an ass like my mother in law!

great pic's John,Once again we're seeing huge bears in our area,Ran into a 300 lber during turkey season that was not afraid of me at all.Only ran off after I threw a big stick at him.

The ticks are getting worse every year,I don't even hunt Suffolk until November,when the temps start to drop.I live in Huntington and after 14 years here,my dogs are coming into the house with ticks on them.

opening day in 3H was active with toms gobbeling between 6:30 and 7:30.However,last thur. was dead.No gobbels at all and turkeys were no where to be found.

The gobbles began at 6:30,But none of the toms would leave my neighbors field and venture into the woods and towards my logging road,which they very often do.At 10:00,I spot black movement heading my way,then another.Wait,much to big to be Turkey's.Two black bears cross the logging road about 50 yards away,and thankfully continue in a straight line and not towards me.That was exciting! At noon,I begin the long walk down that same logging road,When I spot movement coming towards me.Another Bear,this one had to be nearly 300Lbs,And totaly unaware I was standing just 40 yards away.We both make eye contact and unlike other Bears Ive jumped,This one just stands and stares me down.After about 40 seconds,I wave the shot gun over my head and yell,nothing just a look on his face like he wants my lunch money.I pick up a large branch and throw it at him which lands at his feet,This,Thank god gets him to retreat and lumber back into the woods.So,how was opening day for you guy's?

I know Ron from a hunting club we belong to out east on L.I. he did a bear rug for me back in 2000,I'd use him again in a heart beat,But I believe he retired from the business.

Oct can't come soon enough.Im heading up there this sunday to bring my camper home,will do a walk around to look for sheds.

Fairgame,out of curiousity,What was the turn around time for the completion of the mount.I guess the usual 9-10 months?

Im using Rod in callicoon for a 7PTR I got last opening day,has not come in yet.He seems to be pretty busy,Plenty of deer being dropped off when I was there ,not just from NY but from PA as well.Clear differance between the deer from NY and P.A.,Deer from PA stand out with bigger bodies and larger racks.

Your lucky they didnt damage your trail camera.I had a bear rip mine off the tree,Found it about 50 yards from the tree with teeth marks in it.

The selleck/Rosie o'dumbell controversy went away very quickly when after she made the statement that no one in this country should have firearms,except police and the military.And then it was reported that her body guards that she employs to protect her "kids" and wife are ARMED!

got out early this morning and at 7:15,Had what I thought was a doe walk up to within 20 yards of me.It was actually a buck that had shed already.Oh well,you can't eat the antlers anyway.

That shed buck with the arrow in its shoulder was taken at Rocky point spot 15.It was taken by a co-worker of mine.

Now that the season is over,Im just curious with the opinion of fellow 3H hunters.Has the quality of the bucks you saw proof that AR is working?Is the doe numbers really as bad as the DEC says it is?For me,The bow season was very slow but picked up dramatically on opening day of the gun.I saw 9 does opening day and tagged out at 3pm with a nice 7 pntr.Did not go back up again until the ML season and the one day I was up there saw several does also.Curious to hear what you guys have to say.

Do you think they were concerned about scent control,doe pee scent waffers,trail camera's,grunt tubes,ratteling devices,etc....Just a bow tie and bowler hat.Those were real men back then.

Friday I'll take to the field with my model 1853 .577 cal enfield.I havent taken a deer with it yet,But Im going to try.

I found a great new micro beer located in Green port called Green port Harbor.They brew a pumkin spice beer in the fall called Leaf pile,As well as several others.They sell their beer via kegs at beverage places through out the island,I go in with my glass growler,They fill it from the tap for $14.
