  1. Spent the morning in Sullivan County,Nothing,Nada. No birds no gobbles at all. Also saw no deer.
  2. Thats why their called the Emperor of the woods. They actually own the land,But their nice enough to let the rest of us share it,Sometimes.
  3. A car whacked one this past week on Cove rd in Cove neck, near the parking lot of Sagamore Hill NHS.
  4. There is a green belt trail that starts by the boat ramp in CSH and heads south to the south shore,The deer are using this as a parkway to move south.
  5. I live in the village,Bordering Cold Spring Harbor. The deer are heading south out of caumsett state park,I had a 4ptr run through my back yard about 3 years ago.Their in the small woodlots around the CSH train station,a Huge 8 ptr got wacked by a car in front of the CSH train station last year,Hence a yellow deer caution sign now is in place there.
  6. My hunting club is on river road in Manorville ,really close to this.
  7. The deer is running throught the Marble Hill projects,Its lucky to be alive. On an average day up there those projects sound like opening day of the gun season in Sullivan County!
  8. Stop at Greenport and hit the Greenport Harbor Brewery,My home away from home.
  9. Rain fall has more of an effect on oak tree's than temp. Less rain in the spring=less acorns in the fall.Wet spring=more acorns.
  10. He's replacing Brad Smith.Their going to bring him in for the wild cat plays in the red zone,he ran for 660 yards last year. He's also going to balance out the perps and gang members they have now.
  11. As of 5:15pm,trade was on hold. However,I think denver made a major blunder. One good hit and their 37 year old, surgicaly repaired investment is in a wheel chair for life. This deal,If it goes through, cost the Jets very little,4th & 6th pick in 2012.I like the deal.
  12. My Wife works at Sagamore Hill,Theodore Roosevelts home,in Cove neck. They see them all the time.ironicly,There were no deer on the property when TR was a live. There is also a thriving turkey population in Cove neck. When Im upstate in May,And seeing nothing,My wife calls me and says she had to shoo the flock away from her car in order to get to it.
  13. African Safari then Moose hunt..........Could you marry me instead!
  14. Actualy,At first I thought it was a decent size doe.Don't judge the picture.Live weight was at least 90 lbs.Long Island deer tend to be smaller than their upstate cousins.Over the years I've past up shots on small L.I. deer.He had the size just poor genetics I guess. That "poor little button buck" was a legally harvested animal.
  15. A hunting club in Manorville
  16. Took this button buck this morning.
  17. Did I mention that according to the show they can be as tall as 8 feet and weight 500 lbs,But no one has ever seen one.But Elite NY,You have a point about being clever,The bucks in 3H are clever also,Because I didnt see any this year.
  18. I saw that show also.Lets see,Opening weekend in that area sounds like the battle of Gettysburg,Yet no hunter ever shoots or even has seen one.None are ever hit by cars, picked up on trail camera's,Which these days are on every tree.In the history of man kind,no carcass has ever been found,So I guess they bury their dead.Fun show to watch,But you have a better chance of seeing God than a Squatch.
  19. My mother in law wacked a spike with her saab in Connecticut. She did better this year than I did.
  20. The guide was with me for the whole 6 day season.Look at the "Out of NY hunting"section under lottery success for the whole story and picture.I shot a big cow on day 3.Two seasons ago,This guide put a client on to a nice bull 20 min. into opening day.He still gets the paid the full amount. On another note, weather your using a guide or DIY,Some zones, like mine in zone C in north central VT is very mountainous. We found the Moose at a higher elevation,Which meant we hiked about 3 miles a day up and over hilly terrain.I.E.,Not for the average couch potato.
  21. In VT,Application was $25.When I drew a tag it was $350 for the non-resident hunting license. My guide, which is not mandatory in VT,charged $3000.He scouted the zone the week leading up to opening day, removed the moose from the woods, handled all butchering.I have a place in VT,so I didnt have to spend money on a hotel,But add in gas, tolls and a tip for the guide. If your going to hire a guide in Vt keep in mind there is not a lot of them,And the ones who are available book up quick after the drawing.I went with an established, reputable guide and not with a local guy who hires himself out on the side, which is cheaper. It's a once in a life time tag and I wanted a guide who would actually show up opening morning and not be hung over.
  22. Generally,You pay the non-resident application fee,Then if your selected,Your required to pay for a non-resident hunting license.Most application fee's are anywhere from $15 to $25.
  23. VT,Maine,N.H. & New Brunswick all done online via their respective web sites.Lottery applications usually opens in January with the drawings held in July.
  24. Well I ended my rifle season today with a fat buck tag still unused.Saw nothing today, nada.Colder temps,a few inches of snow,Should have been a good day,Nothing.5 full days and only 3 does to show for it,And that was opening day.My buddy hunting the other end of the property today, saw one small spike,Which he nearly mistook for a doe.The numbers are clearly down from last year,I suspect a big winter die off.
