  1. If you do your research you can get into some good spots out west that are on public lands. They say bowhunting is the way to go. The elk are not pressured as much. There are some outfitters that hunt off of public land and they have options from fully guided to here is the camp and we heard elk over in that direction.
  2. It is a whole different story when a deer is standing in front of you. A lot of things happen in a short period of time. Somethings to think about or practice, 1.When I shoot I try never to hold to long. Basically pull back, hit your release point, settle and shoot. (i have played around with holding back at release for 30 sec to a minute and then releasing and my groups grow exponentially). 2.When shooting one smooth motion from draw to release. (See # 1) 3. Practice drawing your bow in the house (No Arrow) and holding it back. Then letting it down super slowly. This happens in the wood all the time to me I think I got the shot and the deer doesn't stop etc. and you have to let the string down. 4. When I see a deer coming in I try to let it get into a spot where I can do #2 (on this list!!). Recurves and longbows don't have the let off and you can't hold them back. 5. Practice all year long not just a few months. We have all been in your place and it isn't a good feeling just keep practicing and you will get there.
  3. Anyone with a 5j doe tag? I have a 4b. Ha never mind just checked the dmp and the are n/a
  4. So much for the moon phase having them out and about. Nothing so far. Going to be a long day if it stays this quiet. Not even neighboring shots
  5. Toes are cold. Super quiet here
  6. Yuck glad I am drinking coffee INSIDE. Going to go pick up a gun and then hope to get out this afternoon. Good lick to those that are out.
  7. That's late. 3 at 623. Crazy people.
  8. Leos. Huh. J/k. Lol. That is what the officer told me. Not throwing punches here. It was 5+ years ago and cp has exploded since then so maybe they are cracking down more. Don't know , my spot that we hunted is houses now so I don't hunt up there anymore.
  9. Legally they can't ticket it you because it isn't in the state regs. But they can ruin your day for sure and if anything happened it would be a big mess sorting it out. I hunted with a warden for years in CP and carried a rifle. He always said he couldn't technically do anything but could make it a Hassel.
  10. I use a boot dryer on mine every time I take mine off. Works great.
  11. Asat leafy suit. have had mine for two years and won't ever be without it. It is awsome camo
  12. Love this idea. Now I have to shoot one to get it going
  13. Saw a lot of movement on the cams early morn and early eve. I was out for a couple hours this morn saw two little guys that was it.
  14. There is a place that used to do it in visher ferry. Reasonable priced when I last used them. I cut my own now so I get the cuts I want. I can't remember the name of the place though. It was by the crescent bridge. About a mile west or so. There is also a place on rt 9 between exit 10 and 11. Arsenaults bait he was doing it I don't know if he still is. No idea on pricing.
  15. Quite here. Wish something would move.
  16. 8 yards shot ran 20 yards and dropped. Simmons Tree Shark and an arrow that weighs 630 grain did the job.
  17. I gave sent killer up this year just super carefully about wind and washing my clothes. Seen more deer under 50 yards this year than the last couple. What I am getting at is don't just rely on your sent killer.
  18. Took this one at 8 yards. High angle hit both lungs went 20 yards and dropped.
  19. If everybody shot no farther than 25 yards I feel there would be a lot less wounded deer. I am not saying you can't wound them close but a lot goes wrong when you are shooting at a distance. As said above correct shooting form should be first and foremost but don't just get any arrows go to a shop that work's with trad gear or get some advice from the people at trad gang. or trad talk. No sense in spending the money on arrows that you won't use down the road, You can get a close spine and then add weight to make them weak or shorten them up to stiffen them up. Don't be afraid to ask questions on here either we will all try to help out.
  20. Don't need something technical to take down a deer. I shot this deer 4-5 years ago with a soveriegn Mace 43# @ 29". Shooting 2117 alum with 125 grn Muzzy's and yes that is Yellow masons twine for silencers. It works very well. LOL I am good out to 30 yards but won't take a shot much past 20 yards. Over the past 8+ years my farthest shot at a deer was 23 yards. I have had better years than others but in the past few I have been more productive with my bow than my gun.
  21. New this year 60" 50# @ 29. Striker Fastback Shooting 55-75 Gold Tip Trads. 630 grns
  22. My arrows are 12grns per pound, 630grn arrow. Bow shoots nice and quite. I have good foc. I would definitely pay attention to weight and arrow selection. I don't think it matters to much with the compounders because they can adjust there sights to where the arrow shoots and then just keep the same specs year to year. Where as if you want correct sight pic and are shooting instinctively you have to match your arrows (weight spine etc,) to your bow. In the end if you pay close attention to the details you will get a truer arrow flight and be more consistent. Plus your shooting will be more forgiving if you don't get correct form on a shot.
  23. Here is a pic of a little kitty and some of some big kitty's once you see the difference it is hard to mistake them.
