In my perfect world I would eliminate doe tags statewide for 3 years and have a permanent statewide rule that only bucks 8 points or better be taken. Our deer heards would be rich and healthy while we would let the bucks grow. I know people say you cant eat horns but how excited would you be that you finally got that 10 point you've dreamed about instead of that 4 point.

I went to Colorado last year and ran into this problem. Luckily the wonderful woman at the Colorado dept. Of wildlife was able to call NYS Dec and verify that I was in fact certified.

Unit 25 and 26 is were I hunted last year and will be going back this year. If your planning to hunt for deer as well as elk you have to have your application with money submitted by April 7th. But before you fill out any application for any tag you must pay $10 for your habitat stamp or your application will be rejected. If you only plan on hunting for a bull there over the counter and you can get them anytime you don't need to apply for one. However they went up again this year I believe to $624. If you are going as a group I would recommend everybody apply for different tags because you will see slot of different animals and nobody will have a tag for one. Like when the big black bear came out of its den 10 yards in front of me and we had a stare off while pee ran down my leg. Yes I will be applying for a bear tag this year....

all for antler restrictions ive been saying it for years. but shortening the season i dont like. what i would like too see is crossbow use during all of archery then one week before regular gun season have a muzzeloader season with restrictions such as no inline muzzeloaders or scopes. Thats what colorado does and i like it.

Anybody hunting this area? I'm not seeing any rubs or scraps yet I find it very odd. The bucks I have been are on there normal patterns not chasing does or anything. Seems late to not be seeing any pre rut or rut activity.

The Matrix 355 is actually illegal to hunt with in NYS do to the draw weight restrictions. The 355 has a draw weight of 225. However the Matrix 310 has a draw weight of 200. I do own a 310 and highly recommend it. My uncle bought a Barnett ghost and its just heavy bulky and way to long. But its all in whats comfortable for you. Any Excalibur string can be changed in the field but those compound crossbow cant you need a manual.

Last tune up shoot with the new Excalibur this morning before I take it in the woods Saturday morning. Still in awe on how accurate they are.

I leave Thursday morning for Colorado for an elk hunt. Im doing public land. In my eyes I would feel better knowing I did it on my own opposed to someone else doing everything for me Plus paying a boat load of cash!

Unit 27 closest town is toponas. I will be hunting on state land with my uncle and his hunting camp. It is a meat sharing camp I think is pretty cool. I will be using my 30.06. One guy has a bunk house that he made and tows up and I will be sleeping in for 7 days. I will be flying because I use to live in Denver and drove back and forth to buffalo about a dozen times and will never drive again. Iowa and Nebraska are absolutely the most boring states to drive thru and it takes about 12 hours to drive thru them.

Yes I cant wait 13 more days till I finally leave for Colorado for a elk hunt. I was supposed to go last year but i broke my tibial plateau in a motorcycle accident avoiding a heard of deer crossing the road.

I always answer this debate with these unfortunate group of humans with you'll thank me when a deer jumps through your windshield! We help control the population.

I wish fawns held there spots during hunting season so people would be able to tell that your killing a baby. I hate seeing people with these tiny deer strapped to the cars.

My land borders state land and some bafoon was posted under a tree in my field. So I walked up too him told him it was private land and with a big smile he pulls out some GPS thing and tried telling me it was state land and I was trying to steal his spot. I told him see the posted signs and he told me I put them there to protect that spot and he was going to call DEC. Needless to say DEC never came to my camp.so be careful if you use one.

Its the same with bows minimum but no maximum. Makes no sense! But from the DEC officer I talked to its because of the rate of speed there worried about that makes no sense. Theres no limitations on ammo we shoot for guns.Seems like another pointless politician really knows what there talking about.
