  1. Looks like the Hot Hen.
  2. Ya on the smaller tows. The small utility trailer is about the size of a pop-up, when I'm backing it up at camp for example I have to open the rear hatch or I realy can't see the damn thing.
  3. Well, I remember my 9th. grade Math teacher, she was hot.
  4. Old?!? I have a 99, with a class II hitch. It's wheelbase is an advantage but yeah, not for towing. Normally I use a small utility trailer about a 1/2 ton. Pulling the 2500lb. camper was a different ball game. When I need to move it again it'll do the job, but it's nothing I'd want to do on a reg. basis.

    Why?

Well you know one fine day I had an extra half-grand in my pocket - this pro shop was in the neighborhood.. About 15 years ago I can remember driving home in the fall from where camp was at the time, and I would occasionally see someone walking from the woods with a Bow. And I thought, 'What the heck would motivate someone to be in the woods with such a thing. Just pick up a damn gun already.' Forward a few years and a friend of mine is into bow hunting, on occasion picking up a deer well before I am, while I'm sitting in the woods putting up with skeeters hunting squirrels & turkey. A few years go by and I got ahold of an older Bear whitetail bow to mess around with. Yeah it was accurate enough but with zero let-off I didn't take to well to it. Meanwhile I'm still helping my buddy process deer way before I'm able to even the score. The short of it is at some point you realise what your missing out on and decide to take the plunge. It is the next few critical years either a bowhunter develops or simply does not. Well I seem to have taken to it, maybe being a bit stubborn helped. And now, when I think about not realy getting into it years before I could kick myself. I do like the practice and time of year I can hunt with it. And the extra challenge. Plus one of the best things about it is getting more time in the woods & peace of mind.
  6. Just a heads up I have contacted them about the non functioning link on their website to order spare / replacement cores. It's all being handled now by Delta Sports. They have removed the link and provided a direct 800 # for support. http://www.mckenzie3d.com/products/ Hope this helps out.
  7. Kind of hit or miss on this. used an owl hooter or a triple cut raspy mouth call with some rooting success. Not so much with the howler - seems to stirr up more distant yotes or domestic dogs.

  9. Just to start this off, I do like to make use of the pit. Currently it's a 3x2' concrete block pit with a small brick wind break up front - nothing to fancy. I keep it covered when I'm away to help keep it from getting soaked. It's placed close but far enough away from camp itself so any smoke that blows in that direction isn't a problem. And angled so the front is just about right as well. Just saying you don't want to set `em up wrong into the normal wind direction for example. Usually have the fire closer to the front seems to burn the hottest plus I can pre-dry any wet cuts towards the rear. I use a metal post to hang a Dutch Oven now and then, and a grill - grate to Q off of. Tell you all what realy helps is a pit glove. Some kind of heavy duty work glove if anything you can rotate blocks or turn 1/2 burnt cuts with. And, - of course - a pit stick. Got a chain saw when I need it, regular axe plus a hand axe which gets alot of use. I think a camp without one is incomplete. Found one of the best times to prep some kindling for an evening fire is when you get in after a morning run so it's ready when you get back. And that is usually as it's getting dark anyway. If you keep plenty of firewood around like I do it's important to keep it off the ground. One or two old pallets or some salvaged pt boards works good. I never burn pt or painted wood in the pit. If fuel prices continue the way it's going then I don't plan to do so many convenience - propane runs, given decent weather the 'pit' will see more use. The whole thing adds a great atmoshere, plus when it's time to hit the sleeping bag without any other light up it's quite dark at camp, it's some extra work but well worth it. So, what are you guys running for a pit? Btw; last pic of the trail has nothing to do with the pit, but it's still sweet
  10. I saw one or two craigslist sporting goods or rv posts about rentals the other day. Of course the Syracuse section probaly wouldn't help you.
  11. I am partialy restoring a 17` `68 Woodsman Travel Trailer. The good; roof is in good shape, no leaks. All windows & vents & the door are sound, no broken glass, even have a spare pane. Even has clean curtains. Propane stove/oven is in fair shape, heater is iffy, because of the dc blower, but got a spare from another camper & a sport cat. Toilet works. Bedding is good. Floor is solid, some rust on the frame. The bad; the propane fridge - missing the burning element and I'm not convinced it's safe anyhow. Decided to remove the unit. Frackin birds got in behind it and made a mess. No lie I filled 1 & 1/2 30 gal. trash bags of nesting jazz. Water holding unit, - this puppy is getting yanked to. For one I won't be 'traveling' with it and I always bring fresh water plus have access to a well. Wiring - speaking of birds nests, going to bypass it all and use lcd/dc lights with rechargable 'aa's & propaine. I will need to re-run lines for the stove, maybe use a capped T somewhere in case I decide to use the phony furnace down the road. There is a little water damage to a rear corner, but I think I can sister brace that with some pt. The rear panel is kinda shot but hinged so I was thinking just replace it with a small sheet of pt plywood. The drawers under the sink are in rough shape but I am looking to reroute the sink drain and then go with a small rev-a-shelf pull out base organizer or waste container instead. I am also accustom to plastic closed storage to keep out mice. Then, remodel the area where the fridge was with a set of tiered pull out baskets or shelves to hold 2 coolers. In short there may be some redneck engineering involved - but she'll make a good camper. Not positive if I'll have all repairs done before Spring Turkey but I have no problem tenting it again untill then.
  12. Well it's about time !! I was just thinking alot of CoD gamers might find this thread. I live to go camping, well you all know what I mean. Base camp, hunting camp, home away from home - it's all good. I would like to read about how you guys deal with bugs, mainly black & deer flies. Hoping this section pans out, should be good!
  13. Just wanted to say heck yeah to that.
  14. I must admit when I first read the title of this thread I thought it was about someone's nickname. I think it should be about choice, I mean you can't use a firearm within such proximity to a dwelling anyway. Good luck, keep your finger crossed but remember this is the land of potato head liberal politicians.
  15. By decent spot, what do you mean - 1/2 acre or more? Presuming you have access to impliments such as a spreader - tiller etc.
  16. If - everyone stopped buying gas for a week I bet the Tankers would get lined up and you'd see a price drop. But gas boycots will never happen here. The tech to use Natural Gas as motor fuel is available, but conveniently burried or expensive to get going with. Unless you drive a Centro bus. I think part of the issue there is NY State getting their cut as a distributed motor fuel. Otherwise you could probably hook up a compressor off your Oven T. Sounds a little dangerous but the average clown can pump gas.
  17. I see Burt understands the costs of camp & fuel. And I agree we will have to find ways to travel smarter, less convenience runs etc. Wasn't long ago I looked at one of those Gem cars for getting to work & back home. Less then 10 miles - makes at least some sence, except they are seasonal & I think 25mph max and more then 1/2 the way the roads are 45+. The route is very unfriendly to bicycles. On a side note I refuse to work just to pay bills & sit home. I'd bet each one of us has some menu to get outdoors or get to an archery club, range etc. and find peace of mind. This is different from family time. So lets say without making any more money then you currently do, what to change to be able to afford the fuel. We need a camping section here I got a bunch of ideas.
  18. bart1; just wondering how you hunt that area, ground blind? Sorry I look at a picture and try to pick out stand trees.
  19. Have taken some of my best Birds off State land / WMA.
  20. IMO this poll Fails without Muzzy in the list. It's insulting to classify them as 'other'.
  21. Why would you want to water down good scotch? A toast is a toast I guess.
  22. I'm worried about what a gal. will be by the end of September. This will drive up prices on other camping basics. So then basicly when you need to run for propane, ice, etc., add up the extra overhead, sweet. Something tells me I'll be using the firepit to cook more. Anyone price a propane or DC powered freezer lately? ???
  23. That. firehunter48; you mentioned you were upgrading - may I suggest you match weights with your wifes bow. That way you can have a selection of different brands or ensure back-ups.
