  1. Practicing with your Bow from an elevated position pays off. Practicing with your Bow with a 3-D target pays off. Practicing with your Bow from an elevated position with a 3-D target pays off.
  2. Doe I took with the 209 this year - lost 1 shoulder area mostly. The coagulation was bad news but no worse then a slug hit I think.
  3. Should be a good time for you. Keep yourself all bundled up and don't forget the barrel condoms Good Luck!
  4. Good story. 2-weeks? that kinda bites for the PA guys.
  5. I think you did the right thing too. Just wondering though could not a DEC officer give you a possesion tag for something like that so you could get a free tag so to say?
  6. This year I tried the Muzzy Phantoms. 4 blade cut on contact. When I first opened them up the blades didn't scream super sharpness, and I was a little worried about that. But instead of taking them back I commited and took a slighly better edged to them with a stone. End result was 3 deer with the same head. Sure I cleaned it up and made sure it had an edge, duh. But the point is they seemed like tough heads. Plus they fly true like the field points. Now, that in itself is a plus. So I will most likely have them in the quiver next year. Was going to try the Slick Tricks, even took part in one of their try it to see if you like it programs where your sent one of each head, an 85, 100 & a grizz I think it was. If your Muzzy fan you'll notice the resemblance. Anyhow only the standard head flew right, and I already had some chisel points so, decided to try a contact instead.
  7. Money talks, people will take these offers. I don't know alot about the hydrofracking process. But I bet people affected by what's going on sure do. I would say it doesn't make for happy neighbors. I started seeing lawn signs with the "No Frack" symbol, and started to wonder about it. At the time, I was following that new Battlestar Galactica series, with the hot chicks with guns in space, frack thing going on. And I was thinking, what the frack?
  8. After Christmas is over, it sure is nice seeing al those real trees discarded in ditches, off the sides of the road covered in tinsel, or next to the garbage. Yeah, can't beat it.
  9. Last report on this plot for the year for what it's worth. Closing weekend NZ there was about 4-5" of snow, more by the time I left Sunday. Anyways when I got there Sat morning there was alot of tracks, with some nice size prints btw, in and out of where the plot is. And I could clearly see where there was spots deer cleared out to get to what was under the snow. I am still convinced I planted way to early, some of the oats were seeding. But it's nice to know there's still some traffic on the property. And if the deer want to bother digging under 1'+ of snow now, they can have at it. Probably won't use the same seed next year. Considering using the spot for a summer plot, then till it up about a month before Bow opens and plant up something else, like brassicas, clover, or chicory for better results.
  10. More luck but the skill can be anything from picking out natural funnels to identifying food sources. Skip the scents and bombs, waist of money imo. In this case try to figgure out where the other hunters if any are, and then try a day run. Find a funnel, set up between 9am - 3pm. Try hunting when and where the deer have patterned the early birds.
  11. Hoping the conditions are decent for a few day runs on closing weekend. For the NZ closer I saw two does early on Sat. And some nice tracks, well that got me pumped but they'l have to wait till next year now. I got a feeling a friend of mine might ask me to hunt the weekend or at least a day up to his place (SZ) because you need 4x just to get up on the property now.
  12. Yes cold weather can affect the hunt. But so must common sence. I mean am I already where I plan to hunt or must I drive 2 + hrs in near white out condidtions with 20 mph winds. Now dress up like the camo michelin man and hack it out in the woods untill your chilled to the core. What's that all worth? Burning a vacation day included. And it just happens to be timming sometimes. But this time tomorrows forcast is - not good. 10 - 20" accumilation overnight untill sunrise, 25 mph winds, blizzard conditions. Sucks, and I kick myself when I call it for saftys sake but the season isn't over in the SZ yet.

    Powder

Pyrodex 50/50 pellets with the Wolf. But I try and keep it cleaned up. Tend to worry more about the breech plug & the 209m's.
  14. Oh to Cool, thanks for the loud announcment. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28945.html Guess it has been a while since I checked for yotes. How long ago was it when decals system mentioned using it for them. Glad to see that change.
  15. Well your supposta use the decals system to report any coyote kills. Yotes must be kept in check. Since the fur industry tanked pelts are probably worth squat. Now, we have more yotes, more fawns taken to feed the pups. If I see one durring open season they are down. I don't go coyote hunting on purpose to often. But they have been a problem. One example I can share is from an old lease in Wayne Co. I would see coyotes now and then. I would hear tons of song. Some of it not so happy as while some critter is getting hunted down and eaten alive. On a late season squirrle hunt I saw a pair take down a pregnant doe. Nothing I could do about it as it happened on the neighbors feild but the point is they get hungry, they will feed. For about 3 years ongoing I did do a little varmint control, and a little yote hunting. Skipping all those details at the turn of those 3 years I began to see a nice increase in Turkeys and brousing deer. Right about then I got into Turkey hunting. And the following year the lease was lost. On a new lease if there is a yote problem I will hunt them, if it gets out of control I figgure get a trapper. NYantler, we don't need a leason on the food chain ok, we get that. We also have gut piles we like to see disposed can't leave the whole job up to the crows ect. I'm just saying there is a balance but in alot of places the yotes get heavy, and I can completly understand someone with property wanting them off it.
  16. Man, I am glad I never joined one of these so called clubs. For Renfru I'm just thinking next year you can take what you would spend there and go in on a lease, or use the funds for lodging and hit state land - wma.
  17. Well it'll be cold. Break out the thermals & the thermos. I'm going to hit it just because it's NZ closing weekend. And then see if a little pto pays of Mon & Tues in the SZ. To luck!
  18. The thing that sticks out with private land / lease is you can somewhat hunt around what forms of management or work you put into it. And for me it's the extra time camping out and just plain enjoying the place. There is on occasion the urge to take the climber and hit a few old favorite spots on some wma.
  19. Interesting perspective.
  20. What is it your asking us here? Can understand you wanting to take a buck with your Bow, but not at that range.
  21. OMG do you realise those cigars don't match?
  22. Nice signs but it's not going to fix the guys situation. I tried the ladderstand on state land once, heavy duty lock & chain - didn't help. A climber did. But there's getting to some spots carrying an extra 20+ lbs on every hunt can be a task. Can't offer a real solution for you since I don't know the terrain where you hunt, but I will say I also hate litter bugs & theives.
