  1. Looks a little like the access road to my camp, without the swamp
  2. While some above methods will work there is one other idea I'll mention. It'll depend on where your getting the deer from - meaning working room or camp, from the side of the road etc. Well get a colapsable cooler or even a regular one and feild dress it. Now you can bring the venison home and some of the processing prep is already done. This also works if you need to keep it quartered away and cool so to say if your camped out and arn't leaving for another day or so. Extra ice helps too.
  3. Wow so what is the goal around here, get an AR related thread in every section of the forum? :
  4. slayer; nice buck! I see the grill about ready to go in the back sadass; nice shot!!
  5. Man that sucks for his wife & family.
  6. Check out how clean it's teeth are.
  7. I think to agree with fasteddie. I am not one to be around others who are not concerned about their line of fire. We all like to hunt but it's still your @ss out there. I'm also thinking your up from LI hunting with freinds and it's not like you can just drive up where you were anytime. If that's the case I see three options; you can attempt to express your saftey concerns with your group, if that fails look into your own lease - co-lease next year, meanwhile there's tons of state land.

When they're close that'll get your heart pounding! Good hunting. Glad to hear processing it went well, it generaly goes smoother once you get used to it.
  9. You'll find the slicks are nice n` tender - good hunting!
  10. Well lets see. Used a prior year tag for the 1st time NZ since I got into Bow hunting. Took a buck on a bow/muzz tag, & filled a dmp. Best year with the Bow yet. Some determination especially the opening week through all that rain and preseason work on the new lease paid off. Venison still seems to work out to about 500$ a pound but hey!
  11. I swear to remember a morning dove season.
  12. Geeze, sounds like some of you guys are expecting deer to shoot back. I carry 3-rounds. Only had to use all 3, once.
  13. What ever you choose to do I hope you get some luck. Last year I bowhunted durring closing week and it was damn cold & quiet. Needed much layering up in a tree. Felt like the camo michelin man. But I did see a nice wide racked 6 just couldn't get a shot, so you never know.
  14. Depends on your definition of extreem wind. [ There's a fart joke in there ] But generally if I can't find a natural wind break then it does me no good to drive 2 hours to freeze in 2 hours. I have in the past brought the blind for shelter and yeah that works but if you got 1/2 the windows closed then .. well I hope the lane is good.
  15. Your friend sounds clueless. I would take two does over an average buck anyday. Slickhead venison is awsome. That's one reason I hunt them. We don't get dmp's for nuttin - and I wish I would have gotten both.
  16. I caught this link from another posting and thought readers here might enjoy it. Sort of refreshing to see something of a positive spin on hunting from any media source. http://www.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/11/17/o.kill.holiday.turkey/index.html?hpt=Sbin
  17. Greetings ssdkmd1. Any of you guys spotted black bears where you hunt this year?
  18. That's a nice buck! Good hunting
  19. Not to be a butt head but I wouldn't panic after a lack of more does in just over 3 days. Slickhead's that arn't the size of a horse are nice n` tender. I say fill a tag.
  20. Here's the thing; No damn way I'm hooking up all that nonsence every time I get into a stand. That's the bottom line. On two hunts I had misplaced the tree strap to my Gorilla Vest, so I used the included harness that came with my ladder stand, and scored. I found that harness actually less restrictive then the vest. With the vest I can attach the waist belt along with the tree strap and basically glue myself to a tree, but that is to limiting.
  21. I am looking at it from a slightly different angle. This past weekend on my lease I spotted two fresh scrapes, one being hit over I mean you can tell, spotted it last weekend. From that point being close to a stand and a blind set-up instead of looking for more I would only disturb the area long enough to get back and forth to the spots. Maybe there is more sign elsewhere, I am not sure but I have a forest floor full of crunchy leaves already.
  22. That's a good deer, I would say yes. Got an orange lens on your camera?
