While I was in my stands in the past few days I would occasionaly hear a distant shot. Yes other seasons overlap, but I thought how many loosers are out there shooting out of season? And what drives someone to feel the need to do such a thing. There is virtually nowhere you can go and not hear it in some degree.

Told myself if I had decent luck to start looking into a camper. It was about 7:00 and primetime was peeked, I litteraly had just sat down for a break after a few short bleets. So this guy creeps out from my left side accrost the plot and starts sniff scouting. Maybe looking for the doe making noise? But he's quartered to me, No shot yet. And If I drew then sitting down I figgured he's bust me. So he took his turn, I'm at full draw with about a 5 second window untill he was back into cover. Zapped him with the same broadhead (resharpened & cleaned of course) from the doe I took opening week. 4pnt buck, not overly huge but healthy & tender. 1 & 3 points so I did some pool cleaning. PSE LightSpeed - Raven - x -weave & Muzzy Phantom MX head. 32 yards. Pic is a tad fuzzy but the temp climbed 10-15 degrees in the next hour my primary concern was the condition of the meat. Interesting thing when I cleaned him up, all his fatty tissue seemed fresh, goopy even. Where the doe fat from the prior week was what you would expect. Btw, broadhead is still in great shape Also including a few pics from camping out, did some ribs in the dutch oven, frackin fantastic damn frackin great set of days to hit the woods I'd have to say. Sunday moring was nippy, tried to burn another tag, did see another doe but she was out of range. Porcupine on the trail, a few grouse, - happy hunting!

My 2nd deer for this year - 4pnt. buck on the new lease with the PSE. Not a huge 4 but I wanted a tender deer and this guy was 1-3 sided, figgured get him out of the pool. Sorry about the fuzzy picture - you can still make out the fletching as he took the arrow with him. 32 yard shot, decent blood trail - he went about 50-60 yards. Broadhead cut through lungs, liver was sliced, and it broke into the bottom cage on the opposite site and stuck there. -
I heard deer love roses :-\ Star Trek flash-back.

Go back to your old sight, maybe you got a lemon.

I think this doe ate at Taco Bell, and was glad to be put out of her missery The important thing is it was recovered! Hope none of the meat was tainted from the intestines.

Bet he was none to pleased about that. I am trying to learn more as I go about small food plots, there are few if any farm feilds near my lease so the idea was to increase available brouse since the few apple trees there did squat. This year, I seem to have found out how to create an expensive bedding area because I planted oats about a month early. But I believe the correct food plot can draw and help sustain wildlife. Some of the plot images that have been posted cast no doubt. I think a plots success depends on several factors, including trial and error. It is also one of the legal things we can do to try and better the season, if you are inclined and have the property to do it. I would rather spend the money on a plot instead of urine, scents and other gizmos. Even a small plot I've found gets me out to the property more in the off season and while the jury is kinda still out on final results the learning experience was enjoyable.* *except for maybe when frankentiller found a slab of rocks or roots.

Heck yeah, and then walked right up on a fresh bedding site.

I use a Bushnell yardagepro, had it for 2-3 years now. It was about 150$. It's good for basic rangefinding. If I'm hitting a familiar stand then it usually dosen't go with me. But I like to have it on a new stand or if I haven't been in one for a while. For example I'll hit a few trees in lanes to eliminate guess work.

Top 5 or 10 most important things is more like it. But I'd have to say practice is right up there. I think a bow hunter should know where his mark should be.

That, is out there, but I'm not throwing stones if it works for you then OK. Just took a doe in the NZ early bow opener, was camping out for a week. Day I took the doe I hadn't showered for 5 days. But to be fair I did sort of bird bath the day before with a washcloth & dish bin, the pits were getting grungy.

I get a kick out of food plots of 5 acres or more. It's a Feild!

If you got Turkeys in the area how about a few clucks / purrs as your getting through?
-
Nice pics! Hope you get a shot at him!

Original post & story This is my Doe I took in the NZ early Bow season. -
Guess I could, I mean I hate to brag and all Just thought that thread was for gun/muzz.

I think high fence hunting isn't hunting at all, plus the idea of it sucks. Next question.

Free time costs me alot of money, that's what I know Hope the guys with odd schedules can still get out there. I'm thinking the difference in time when your system gets used to resting could be a problem though.

Thanks for the replys! The deer seem to be scoping on what apples they can find right about now. Wanted to mention something else about the 2-D Renzo. I used the feeding doe and went out they next day to the same spot, figgured lets see what else happens and if there was more activity. Some guys won't go near the same stand within a day or so after a score. That evening two deer showed up, they may have been the other deer that were with the one I sliced. But this time they would have nothing to do with the decoy, and kept their distance. On the pm side a loner doe browsed through the area and wasn't spooked by the decoy but seemed more curious. My first thought was of greed 'yeah, I might be going home with two deer'. Well it didn't get close enough or so I thought and it was in a not so clear lane, so it walked. Had the blood pumpin though.

I'd probably say 60-40 am. But I won't pass on a good pm hunt. Primetime is great either way. And yeah tracking at night with flashlights does kinda suck.

It was time for some vacation, so I took a week off and went up to camp on the new lease. New York, northern zone opener. The weatherman is off my Christmas list. But in all fairness three out of four days of rain I had the privilege of filling an unused antlerless deer tag from 2010. What a great way to start the season! It took place in one of my stands near a Food plot adjacent to a few apple trees. About 7:15 to 7:20am three doe’s came browsing through. I placed a 2 D decoy in the plot and they spotted it. The lead doe hoofed and twisted her neck and head a little bit, like they do when they are trying to get something to move. The look on her face was like why isn’t this idiot deer moving? But none of them were spooked. Instead they moved about 20 yards around it to my right. While they were cutting through some brush I managed to turn myself slightly to the right for a better shot. And when the biggest doe was broadsided in the lane - I connected with the PSE, radial X weave & a Muzzy Phantom MX! 23 yards. What a sound that hit made - thunk! I mean, the first one of the year and all. She made three quick snort noises but only went about 35 to 40 yards. The weather was a very heavy drizzle so the shot had to count. The next 20 minutes was a killer. First shot of the year, I hoped for a good recovery. As I stood there trying to calm myself, I’d look at my watch take a drink the water, pass some gas because I was excited and that happens. That had to be 15 minutes, look at my watch, nope only five. Do a gear check, keep an eye out for other deer, think of a game plan, things like that. Finally, time to get out of the stand. Didn’t take long to find the arrow stuck in the ground, the vane’s covered in bright red blood. Complete pass through. The rain washing away most of the blood trail. From what there was, and what I heard I got a fix on her direction. In about 5 to 10 minutes, there she was piled up next to a tree just off of another small plot I made from tilling up an old logging trail. Doesn’t get much better than that! In 15 years or so of hunting, that was the first time I took advantage of New York’s northern zone early bow season opener. Felt good, real good. I was actually camping for eight days and it was a solid rain for almost six of them. My camping spot is set up fairly well, under a 12 by 16 foot tarp. But by the time it was time to leave it was nearly impossible to keep anything dry. Mud was everywhere, the swamp overflowed part of the access road and I only got to use the Dutch oven once. But I stuck to it and pulled it off. To good hunting! This post brought to you by a new member of the geeks who hunt in the northern zone club, and Windows 7 speech recognition.

Woke up an hour before the sun was up today, and it's still 1 day and a wake up. Everything is packed for camp - headed up for 9 days of fun in what ever weather comes my way. Have you ever heard bow hunters called fair weather hunters before? I say tough butt hairs, they're just jelious because we get 1st dib's. Hopefully I'll have a few pics when I get back. Good Hunting

Hey I'm wondering about something - we all know deer like the sweeter acorns, but can they tell the difference by leaf recognition or a sence of smell?

I know 1 white oak with a bumper crop this year. Whats weird is 30 yards from it there's a red with only a handfull this year. And, another 40 yards from that another pair of white oaks with only a handfull between them.
