  1. Few years ago I had a feeding hen set up in a corner of a feild fall turkey hunting. I was about 10 yards back in a seat when along the opposite corner 4 bucks came out of a draw. 1 6, 2 4's and a high spike. They all spotted the decoy, the 6 kept back about 100 yards, the spike seemed the most curious and got to 40-50 yards, looked at me like therer's something not right with that thing against the tree but didn't spook. It was almost like the 6 sent out the youngin to check it out. The 2 4's sparred for a few seconds then they all just walked off. Wasn't into bowhunting back then. Was a cool event though. Another time on some state land in fact I had a pair of deeks set up like they were going along the edge of the feild. About 1/2 hourt after sun-up to my right I hear some hoof thumping. Knew exactly what was going on, some deer trying to move the birds. Next thing I know two other deer all does 20- 30 yards out and in the feild. One doe got within 5 yards of me and right up to the decoys I kid you not. After she realised the decoys wern't moving she sort of noticed me but kept right on eating leaves, cautiously
  2. I went through the same thing with my Wolf. It's a decent M/L! I would say 2x 50-50 Pyrodex or T7 and I've had luck with the 245gr powerbelts. Yes there are better rounds out there and the gun is more accurate then I am but I'm using irons this year. I recomend a little range time and some quick clean patches. They are presoaked with bore cleaner. Then there's the preventative patches for when your done. They also make these plastic or rubber 209 primer holders you can keep in your pocket, one of those is good to have and maybe a set of speed loader tubes.
  3. Theraflu expectorant for cold & chest congestion, liquid. I was starting to get a nasty cold a few days before the NZ opener and used that stuff. Then I kept a supply of no-doze just I needed cold pills & got drousey. Cutting it close, hope you feel better & can get out there.
  4. Congrats on the score, good hunting! Is he takin a ride to the taxidermy? Im impressed with what neck flanks that buck would put in the freezer.
  5. Are some of you guys that desprate to see pictures of bucks that it comes down to pages of how fake a certain picture is? This kinda crap degrades the quality of this forum by poluting the hunting section. And it seems to be spreading elsewhere. How sad. You would think there's time to go hunting and plug one of your own, show it to other members as something to be proud of. But no, what seems to be atop of the first page, fake crap, awsome. :
  6. Last (cato) pic is fake as sin.
  7. My .243 is also ready to go - just wondering what you rifle's twist rate is and ammo/round you use? I like the 100 gr GameKing or 95 gr Nosler partition.
  8. It looks fake as hell. I got another question. Why in fracks sakes are bucks from rumors and other sources not taken by or from members here even getting posted?
  9. I agree, perhaps there's enough distance between those spots and the upcomming racket. Maybe if you can figgure out when they roll in and start up, you might be able to intercept some deer they push. Either that or somehow deal with the noise for hours, looks like the area might hold some Turkeys too. I remember asking some loggers if they might be finished up before the season was over. 3 months later they were still there.
  10. Good huntin` guys Here's a pic of Deer #4 (dmp 7r) taken over holloween weekend (30th.) quick story here http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php/topic,2061.0.html
  11. Just took this pic while a steak is on the grill. Well, figgured I'd eat dinner before the work starts. To good hunting!
  12. Thank you I will keep that in mind.
  13. I took two deer this year Bowhunting out of a 15' stand. Still thinking about bumping that up with some sort of extension for next year because truthfully I'm more comfortable in the 16'-18' range. 30' up in a climber? ??? Screw that noise, that far up a tree and I'd probably piss myself. And that's all there is to it.
  14. Deer #4 down. Thursday I hit a WMA spot with the climber that I've had some luck with in the past. Saw a pair of deer cross a feild and I tried to call but it was so windy I doubt they heard me. Was doing some surfing all morning and called it near 11 because it just got worse. Took a break Friday while burning a vacation day and took care of some things at camp. Saturday morning, another day run I parked myself in an old favorite spot perhaps for the last time this year (7r) to try & fill a tag. About 1 hour after sunup a doe made her way about 30 yards from me. I thought it was a button at first, it went back and forth for a few minutes acting like it wasn't sure which way to cross. Once I had a positive id at 10 o'clock angle broadside, I took the shot! Ok size doe, not big but good venison & now I have all my doe tags filled about a month ahead of plans. I'll try and remember to post a pic later after work. It's a vacation day thing - what I mean is instead of burning all my pto now I can float some for next year. And use that time for spring Turkey, then have some reserve for next season or use a little for plot work etc. Realy digging the Bowhunting thing The luck has given me an interesting problem though. Got 1 tag left - for regular season buck. I can be more selective with it. But, if I burn it this season then I'll have zip for next year early (late Sept.) Bow NZ.
  15. Bummer. Well cutting to the chase - I think your screwed there for this year. Once they are done your woods will look like a frackin war zone. The routs / stands / patterns your used to will be changed forever. But 2-4 years later new growth will be benificial.
  16. Perhaps I am not understanding the question, 'why do you hunt?' Why the &^$% wouldn't I?
  17. Please send him congratulations! That is a time for you both to remember. Good hunting!
  18. I try to keep the pics of my deer I show in presentable condition. Something I can show to my family & friends, even co-workers. I'm not realy concerned about what an anti might think. But I've talked more then one person into looking into - trying hunting from what I can show and describe. Also taken other damage - shot pics that I think around here would be fine but I wouldn't use them for wallpaper at work.
  19. I did a day-run bowhunting in an old favorite WMA spot Thursday morning. Was ok, some serious surfing going on but it didn't get obnoxious untill close to noon. Saw a pair of deer out 90 or so yards, tried a little calling but I doubt they heard me. Scratched the afternnon as even crappier wind & weather set in.
  20. Check you tags. If you have the bow muzz privilage you get two extra and one is either sex one is doe. No idea if 3H had dmp's but that time is gone anyway. If you don't bow hunt you can still get 1 muzz tag for either sex deer but for mz season use only.
  21. Well squirrels are alot of fun to hunt, but there's a time for that. For me not durring bow season. Got a laser pointer? They don't seem to like them :-X
  22. Welcome to the forum. Former nahc member for 2 years. I hate to break it to ya, but then again perhaps you already know - NAHC is not a hunting club, it is a selling club. Their mag is a blatent advertising platform and they push cheap tools at "X" markup plus other publications they assume you'll buy. Not to mention your membership is rewarded by a cheap sticker that fades in 2 months and a 25 cent trinket. Doesn't make you a bad guy though. :-\
  23. At least you were watching out for yourself. Just wondering what the ECO had to say.
