  1. Guess I'm more of a wait it out and listen for roost gobbles without a crow call guy. I'll hit it after a few hours if nothing is happening. Hunting 70 acres so no run n gun needed. Never been much into camping below the roost , watch them fly down , no calling , barely a show and touch one off. Birds I hunt are always roosting 300-500 yards off property I can hunt. Nothing better than working them that distance , heart pounds , I get shaky , and get to see a long show as they strut across the field. Sitting below a roosted bird doesn't sound fun or challenging , mine as well shoot one at Wegmans. Everyone hunts different and I get and accept that. It's just not me. Oh ya , and daughter and I enjoying smoked turkey breast marinated in oj , Italian dressing , crushed red pepper and wrapped in maple smoked bacon right now. A bird we worked from 600 yards out. Long show , lots of strutting and gobbling , henned up , quiet on the roost type of bird. We've waited until Memorial Day to hunt again after tipping over bird on Mothers Day Woods are completely different , turkeys are more responsive , and like to sleep in lol. Shoot straight, be patient , call soft , call less and most of all enjoy the woods waking up my friends. That's what it's all about, taking one home : added bonus.
  2. Gobble all season long at crow call everyday ?!
  3. Crow call and owl hooters are hit n miss. Sort of like birds don't gobble everyday. Crow calls have helped me locate birds sometimes but not all the time. Some days they'll shock gobble at anything and others nothing. Doesn't hurt to try
  4. Nice bird !!! 3 yards ?! should have clunked him with your shotgun !! Great hooks
  5. Just a thought as I had similar experience years back. My dash had lost a screw, shifted down a bit and it was pressing high on the gas petal where I couldn't see it . I braked and it would accelerate again as corner of dash was still pressing on it.
  6. Sounds like the truck I saw. I don't hunt there. Was on my way home from hunting, say 9 am or so that day. Thought it would have been funny to leave feathers and then have someone on here (chance) mention it, lol.
  7. Omg !! I've talked about doing that for awhile now !!!
  8. Bird tagged May 10th and daughter can't tag along until Memorial Day (25th) and then the 30th. I'm fine waiting til then as I love the end of the season when birds are gobbling more ,woods have popped and nobody in the woods as they've given up.
  9. Throwing this out there. Anyone on here hunt Rte 77 entrance of darien lake state park on Mothers day with a white pick up truck? Was going to leave you some turkey feathers from my bird that morning under your wiper blades
  10. Exactly same thing here. With the exception of 1.25 " hooks last year on a bird ,everytime 7/8" inch ! Bird after bird after bird lol
  11. http://www.hecsllc.com/ Just saw this watching a hunting show. I call shenanigans!
  12. Well said. I do however accuse grinners of having zero intelligence: )
  13. Weather looks good for Wednesday and Thursday. Cooler temps and overcast. I'm waiting til Memorial Day and final Saturday of season so my daughter can go with. I'd rather have her there again at chance of punching second tag . I like the full green of the woods as well.
  14. The simple answer to this is a dose of Heavi Shot : ) My brother shot birdzilla yesterday . My two year old bird next to it was dwarfed. His easily was 5-6 pounds heavier. Wish he would have weighed it but no scale.
  15. Had a great morning. Big boy was with two hens and a jake. I could see my daughter shaking as he displayed and ripped. First shot missed ?! 2nd gave him a knocking over. Weird, found shotshell wad between us from first shot. Second was where it should be, by dead bird. Guessing shot itself came out like a blunderbuss. Heavi mag blends. 7/8" hooks and 8.5" beard
  16. Checkmate. Great show. Old Tom , jake and two hens. Daughter is stoked. We'll both never forget this day. Typical 2 year old. Jake was getting near DSD hen deke. Big boy came running in and strutted.
  17. Birds ripping pretty good across street. Nothing on our mountain so far. Little overcast so perhaps late talkers , I can hope at least.
  18. Having at it again with daughter. Light rain and wood thrushes are singing their beautiful watery songs. Perhaps my favorite bird song next to the one were waiting to hear of course .... Gobble
  19. Brother has found 2 dead ones on his property where I hunt. Heck, was just out there last week and still had snow in some shaded areas on a hillside. Deer found were curled up like they died in their sleep from starvation. Definitely not hit by car. Been seeing quite a few every day while turkey hunting though. We'll see come November.
  20. Skip the mouth calls, dentures will go flying : )
