LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong
turkeyfeathers replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
Awesome morning ! That's the stuff that keeps "us ' coming back. Looking forward to a pic of him and you with a big ole "checkmate grin " -
Did you bump him ? I hit a buck 2 years ago that I never retrieved during gun season. Sickening feeling ! He took the nastiest routes available/ double backing for hours until I accidentally bumped him and took across an open field. he eventually ended up a mere 150 yards in a swamp from where it started. No shot(s) and darkness prevailed after 4-4.5 hours of tracking him. How long did you wait after hit ? If you truly think you had a good hit call the deer search as it's what they are there for.

Bullets for muzzleloader target shooting?
turkeyfeathers replied to BKhunter's topic in Muzzleloaders
IMO I wouldn't sight in with anything but your intended hunting load. Target shooting perhaps but then you'll have to re sight for the hunting load. I switched loads last year and found same grain weight really off at initial 50 yards on paper. Talking like 12-15" . I couldn't believe it . Just a reminder : shoot the way you will in the woods. Clean barrel or dirty barrel. I cleaned barrel after ever shot while re sighting as that's how I hunt, clean barrel. Let the barrel cool in between shots too. You probably already know this but not bad to mention it. -
That smile says it all !!! Nice job dad. He'll remember that forever !! How are you going to prepare them and will he participate in the eating ?

I have a feeling that lock on the coliseum with 2000 of them inside is going to get popped as a diversion so they can escape the 0900 hour elimination of 'real people" inside the fence !

You got a TV in your hut ? The inside of it looks huge !!

Thanks for the responses so far everyone. I know how everyone loves their pets and thought this would be a good thread topic. Keep 'em coming Great pics so far. -
Awesome buck !! How'd you keep the buck fever to a minimum and able to draw the bow ?

2015 Shed Hunting Thread - Post your finds!
turkeyfeathers replied to burmjohn's topic in General Hunting
Saw this thread pop up and forgot I had this in my car. Found while spring turkey hunting with my daughter. Notice the small cuts in two places. Doesn't look a saw. Rubbing on a wire ? Would have to be pretty vigorous though. Any thoughts ? http://i.imgur.com/ui9M9H8.jpg -
2015 Shed Hunting Thread - Post your finds!

Guess I don't see how he's hijacking the thread by asking for helpful tips in thread topic -
It's hunting, unfortunately it happens to everyone. Be thankful it was a clean miss as the positive in this. I used to play a lot of competitive golf. I tended to remember the good shots versus the bad ones. Don't beat yourself up too badly. You missed, it happens. Get out there with confidence and get it done as a positive reinforcement you CAN do it !

Someone screwed with my stand, a little..
turkeyfeathers replied to Al Bundy's topic in Deer Hunting
Just a thought ; could a bird have wanted to use it for nesting ? Grabbed it, landed on branch and then wind whipped it about ? That would be my bet without seeing it -

Here's Maizy our 42 pound 5 year old golden retriever who thinks she's a lap dog. Yes , only 42 pounds and we really do feed her. http://i.imgur.com/XEJfqBn.jpg And my daughters cat Claire ( 5) who wants nothing ever to do with me http://i.imgur.com/Ur2kecS.jpg Who's your friendly 4 legged friend(s)? -

Don't bow hunt but where's the deer pics from today guys n gals ? -
I'd definitely want to tote my Ruger 10/.22 , a 2 liter pop bottle and a few thousand rounds with some 25 round mags before carrying an AK , sword , Xbow etc Light and efficient IMO. This show is real isn't it ?

I liked the scene last week in Fear the walking dead : 900 yards , chick walker in donut shop , Barrett 50 cal rested on Humvee and scope flush to eye as trigger pulled. My eye/ head hurt just watching it.

Who's ready for the season premiere October 11th ? and glad Fear the Walking Dead is over ?! Someday I'd like to see a .22 rim fire of some sort. Most popular gun worldwide and never one on the show. And Daryl maybe run out of bolts for his xbow ?! Bring on the walkers as Rick is going to kick some arse

Dumb question : How do you use a lifeline while climbing up into a ladder stand ? I use a safety vest I attach when I finally get to the top of my ladder stand. Have always thought, "dang I bet most people fall climbing up or down the ladder "

I've caught the same one four times in a box trap over the last few months. He's so timid and mellow that I keep letting " this one " go. I bait with apples , he eats , gets caught , gets released and repeat. Last week I propped the door open and 25 minutes later I had to shoot him with the garden hose so he'd leave the trap. Never growls , hisses , nothing. http://i.imgur.com/POyFGoT.jpg

I also use a muff with handwarmers. I carried my ML thru regular season thru ML season. With the optics on it it's difficult to get a gloved hand on the hammer to pull back. Keep saying I'll get an extended hammer but don't. It's also easier to not have to take off glove and drop it to the ground so I can post in " Live from the woods " thread
