  1. Perhaps true, shooting them during deer season is opportunity hunting. Some guys may not be set up to call them. No red lens spotlight, electric or hand calls, somebody to pan light for them, decoys. With this new snow I'd be out tonight except for the gale force winds.
  2. I've had quite a few red fox pelts sent out to get tanned. Kept a few for myself and have given some to friends and family
  3. It breaks up the void of time in between deer and spring turkey season. Love hunting with my snow camo. There's also something about hunting at night that I like. Someone's going to hear the shot and be like WTH was that ?! Fox are fairly easy to call in but when you get a coyote under the gun it's a whole new ballgame.
  4. As far as I know that's fine as long as they are not carrying a firearm. Used to take my daughter bunny hunting with her in the backpack carrier and I'd pop bunnies sunning themselves with my Buckmark .22
  5. Missed not wearing my snow camo this year. My favorite. Coyote hunting as soon as we get some snow.
  6. All the snow melted a few days after it came. Hit 63 degrees Thankfully our basement didn't take water as creeks hit all time highs. All back to normal as Buffalo weather is concerned Bucks were tending to lose horns early as they were stressed. Buddy shot a big one two days into storm. Over 200 pounds and 19" spread. Stupid thing was looking for acorns under 7 feet of snow. Sucked dragging it he said. Well ya
  7. I'm on my way. What kind of beer you like ?
  8. {{I also collect old xmas trees people trash and throw them around for extra cover !!}} Who throws out old xmas trees before Christmas ? Considering ML season ends around a week and a half before .

  10. I've got that all covered with my shooting rail and camo umbrella strapped above my head. My brother hunts from a "hobbit house" made of stone and mortar , complete with floor and wood burning stove. Kills a lot of deer from in there. But I am completely jealous on cruddy weather days.
  11. I see no advantages of sitting on ground Advantages of treestand : Better view, scent control, less likely get nabbed moving by vision of deer as traditionally they don't have predators in trees. And #1 reason is it's so fun to pee my name in the snow from 18 ' from up in a tree
  12. More prayers needed please. He has brain injury, lung injury, pneumonia and infection. Just opened eyes 2 days ago. Can only communicate with light squeeze of hand. Starting to get a little motion on right side. Putting trach in today. Still on venilator. He has 2 younger children and it's Christmas time. The only information I get is from a Facebook page created for him in prayers. Another friend and I are planning on setting up a benefit for him and his family. I will post details when they come about. It's going to be along difficult road ahead for he and his family. Please keep them all in your thoughts. I can't help think what if: He asked me to hunt the night of accident. I was off and declined as my daughter had ballet and didn't want my dad to drive her in the dark as he's 90 and doesn't like to drive in the dark. He text me from his hut, hunting with his dad. Watching 15 deer. Could I have changed the time line of this accident ?!
  13. Big fat urban muskrat. Set up a commando mission . Between 2 fast food restaurants on the busiest street around. Set at night and pulled this morning. Actually while setting I almost stepped on one. Literally 5 feet away.
  14. For a measly $20 I won't tell her you said that
  15. Why were you annoyed on Biz's engagement day ?!
  16. Does she like to cook and bake? Kitchen Aid mixer ?! Wife has one and it's been on for the last week making cookies and holiday candy. About $300 and up. Vera Bradley purses are the in thing. A lot cheaper than Coach. Do you entertain for Christmas ? Nice set of Christmas dishes? Good set of Henkel or other kitchen knives ? I liked someones car starter idea RE: spa White Oaks in Niagara Lake ,ON is incredible (right off the QEW). Wife and I went for our 10 year anniversary. Only massage I've ever had. I don't feel as if I lost my man card for it. Honey facial . Both get massaged in beds next to each other, hot tub, bed was incredible (not even sure of the thread count on those sheets), cheese and fruit plate awaiting in our room with a bottle of champagne, chocolates on the pillow. 5 star restaurant. First class all the way.
  17. Dang Pygmy, I can't soften up the volume on my Foolproof. Mine is circa 1978 or so : ) My brother can , I just don't have it I guess. Purrs on it are impossible for me and purrs are my go to when he's committed but still doesn't know completely where I am. Love the slate for this. I'll softly purr around my leg so he doesn't know exactly.
  18. Want a challenge and something to do ? Look into making and shooting a primitive bow. My buddy is big into this. Makes his bows from hornbeam, measures the poundage, draw length, carp and rattle snake backs them, arrows are made, flint arrowheads, turkey wing feathers (compliments of me) , attaches everything with deer sinew, hunts in primitive gear. ANY deer with this set up is a trophy. He also hunts with a real flintlock. He kills deer every year with both. It's very labor intensive with a lot of research and time to build your own bow but he compares it to catching trout on flies you've tied yourself . Just on a bigger scale
  19. Had a new and I mean newly birthed fawn come stumbling by me. A mere 2 feet away. Could have tapped it on the head with the bore of my 12 gauge. It was still wet and wobbly beyond belief. It walked thru the mayapples to the field edge and back into the woods behind me. At noon upon leaving the woods I found exactly where it had been birthed. Matted mayapples and fluid about 40 feet from my tree. I've heard mama will birth fawns and take off for awhile as she carries most of the scent to predators. I had a great pic on my old cell phone. Didn't even need to zoom lol. First the robins start to sing, then cardinals, a crow or two, woodthrush's , brown thrashers and "hopefully" at this point thunder chickens start to rip on roost. Just got goosebumps thinking about it
  20. Decoys? Electric caller? I can't them things worth a lick, lol. But can smash clay birds all day long. They seem to dodge when they get shot at. I know pattern is passed by them by then but fun to see. I still shoot the scout crow when others say not too. They'll send more lol
  21. Crow call is fine for locating. They won't always gobble at it however. You're getting them to shock gobble. Turkeys will be turkeys and you can't always get what you want from them . I'd go slate call. Keep in mind a slate call won't work when it's wet. Glass pot calls will but they're a little more difficult IMO to get the sound you are looking for. One slate call + 3 strikers = 3 different hens(calls) Decoys are not necessary to kill birds. Some guys swear by them, some guys swear at them. I've killed many birds with and without them. They sometimes close the deal if the tom comes looking. If he doesn't see his "hen" (you) he may leave. Also had old boy close the gap from 250 yards with his real lady in tow to my deke. He got as close as 75 yards and hung up with his real girlfriend. My Avian standing hen wasn't going to move to him like she's supposed to. Without the deke he may have searched some more and gotten closer. Best part was he strutted for an hour for my 12 year old daughter to see. Would turn his fan at her and walk circles around her looking all proud. Would come out of strut and rip. She loved seeing it. BTW , killed old boy a few days later with no decoy. Double bearded and just less than 1.25" hooks. Been hunting him for years.
  22. FYI I shoot 3.5 " shells because I just do. You only benefit from a longer shot string, not pattern density. When scouting, sit, no calling. Maybe a locater call if you have to.
