  1. For some reason I can't cut and paste the link(s) Could somebody post it up for me please ?! Wish I was in this guy's will !
  2. Never leave home without one / Beretta Tomcat .32 most of the time. Stuff it in the pocket and go
  3. I start with the Buttout tool. (for those you don't have one I'd suggest buying one) Quick zip tie and then cut towards the sternum. I never split the ribcage. I will skin down some of the fur before really getting into the field dressing so no hair gets in cavity. When I reach up as far as I can to cut the windpipe I run the back of the knife blade along my not cutting thumb until I feel the blade run off the end of my thumb. I now know I can flip the blade over and cut missing my other hand. I think most people cut themselves at this point of the procedure. First few deer I field dressed took me forever. Guessing I'm done now in 15 minutes tops .
  4. So after getting home from work last night I went to check the veggie garden, aka bunny patrol. I hear this zoom , zoom , zoom noise. I say to myself that sounds like a hummer but none like I've heard before. My eyes spot a make hummingbird flying east to west and back and forth over and over. Thought the poor little guy had an inner ear problem and was outta sorts lol. This went on for about 30 seconds. I then notice the female hummer on a branch. That dude was zipping around her trying to impress her. He finally swept down , mounted her and poof he was done bettering my fastest time of mating , lol. He soon zipped off and she was left there with a look of " wham , bam , thank you mam ". It was an incredible thing to witness and thought I'd share because I'm assuming I'll never see this ever again nor most people haven't seen it either. PS and if you're curious , no bunnies were harmed in this incident
  5. Black razzles we pick urban just off a main trail in town were terrible this year. Kept my eye on them and not a good year. Brothers red razzles were also weak in their prdoction of fruit. Glad you folks are having a good year with them.
  6. Have some super duper model Aimpoint on my Winchester 1300. I like it but it lacks in any magnification . The battery lasts forever but always worry it'll die at the worst possible moment. Like when it's shouldered with the safety off.
  7. Cool stuff !! Watching Shark Week right now.
  8. http://i.imgur.com/kpvO9r5.jpg Dang sideways pic Anyhow, found this along a main trail with Frisbee golf all around it. I emailed pic to DEC but haven't received a response yet. Hogweed can give you some serious chemical burns if you get the sap on you.
  9. Can't look at Hope Solo the same way after seeing her selfies that got leaked onto the internet after her ICloud was hacked.
  10. ah , gotcha, but think I have a better chance of hooking up with Heidi Klum than this ever happening
  11. How do you suppose the DEC fix this ? They surely can't lengthen the season as furs will not be prime and be even more worthless than it already is. 3 years ago when muskrats were bringing $8-12+ per on average I sure as heck didn't try and catch any $5 coon.
  12. still have a nice new pond in my backyard. Need to stock it with some panfish. My daughter will be able to fish from her swingset. Why does our dog find it necessary to have to run thru it every time we let her outside ? It makes for a lot of towel drying before she comes back in the house.
  13. the DEC unfortunately has nothing to do with people getting out there and slinging steel to catch fur. It's the Chinese and others farm raising fur so our American furs are not needed
  14. Oops, Yes South Wales. Daughter and I hike there from time to time. We enjoy lifting rocks in the small run offs and looking for salamanders. Seen many a turkey and deer about. Normally we run into very few people as well.
  15. You're doing the right thing and not let him suffer do to your own selfishness. My wife is a vet and sees this way too often. It was the worst 20 minutes of my life driving our prior golden retriever to be put down knowing Mulligan wasn't coming home with me. Pets are family and deepest sorry for your loss. Remember all the great times ,the hunts and he'll be waiting for you for the next big hunt in the sky.
  16. IMO I can't hoard what I can't find. Saw a box of Winny Wildcats , box of 50 for $8 Um ya, no thanks.
  17. coons aren't even worth trapping/hunting the last few years. $10 at best for a xxl skinned, scraped and stretched. A lot don't even get bought at auction. I live in the village and caught #4 bandit in the box trap this morning. I miss the days of the $40-50 dollar coon on the whole.
  18. It's also odd I'm not seeing birds at all. Since end of season, farmers have plowed and tilled fields. No birds are out dusting or picking bugs. No chicks is not a good sign Grow. That's my concern. Have buddies taking road trips and not seeing anything either. Little worried here. I say nix the fall season and go to one Spring bird for a few years and hope the population spikes. I've said before " Deer hunting fills my freezer but turkey hunting fills my heart".
  19. An incredibly wet and cold June is going to impact nesting severely. The next few years are going to be worse than this year. I only shot one bird this year and sorta glad I did. Hoping the few jakes I heard/saw make it til at least two year olds for next year. I'll skip the fall hunt once again. Fingers crossed for a good/decent 2016 Spring season
  20. Hunters Creek park in Marilla, NY is awesome for mountain biking. It will severely kick your a$$ if you ride it hard. Oh wait, there's no easy riding there .
  21. Bunnies wiped out broccoli ,sugar snap peas and some jalapeno plants. They only went after the young lettuce which rebounded nicely. Banana peppers ,red bell and tomatoes doing great. Haven't seen as many bunnies lately : )
  22. That sucks. Our annual trip to Ithaca in end of July. Daughter and I always hike there. Robert H Tremen park it is then . Almost as good.
  23. The lone surviving prison escapee may have nice thoughts of "where to get away" for a few weeks.
