  1. Nice. Where did you go out of? My buddies went out near Captree on Thursday and got blacks. They went out of Point Lookout on Saturday and got brant and geese.

    Wet powder

Had the same thing happen to me a few years ago on a buck. I had left my ML in the garage for a few weeks with the powder and sabot still loaded. Condensation due to fluctuating temperatures turned the powder to a paste and the bullet traveled about two feet.
  3. Isn't he allowed to get another tag if the deer is deemed unfit for consumption?
  4. Kludes, what do you do with the coyote hydes?
  5. Congrats to your dad. Sounds like a very dedicated hunter.
  6. I'm hunting new land this season and saw a coyote last weekend. I was tempted to shoot for the purpose of eliminating a predator. But, I'm not comfortable with killing an animal that I don't intend to make use of. If I see one again- and I think I will- I'd like to have a plan for after the kill. For all you coyote hunters, what do you do with the yotes that you kill?
  7. I'm sure you're right. But, probably a lot more dangerous.
  8. I misread the title of this thread- thought it read 'Whore hunting in Bangkok'.
  9. I feel your pain. I never had permission on private land, but I had a stand and camera stolen on public land on the Island. Haven't hunted out here since. That guy didn't look like someone who was dressed for scouting- looks to me like he happened to be in the area and saw a buck and then decided to trespass.
  10. I had a group of eleven does pass me on Saturday.
  11. Like some of the others mentioned, Cabelas has great sales in the off-season. Bargain Cave. I've always gotten exactly what I wanted and paid anywhere from 25-50% off by keeping an eye on the website in the off-season.
  12. I have the MT050 parka and I think it's great. I also have the MT050 mittens and they're great also. I've never been disappointed in gear from Cabelas. I have a heavy pair of bibs from them as well- and they're great as well. I'm sure the Outfitter series is great, too.
  13. Maybe the two bullets did fragment for whatever reason, causing 4 entry holes; and maybe only one of the four fragments passed through. Why not try shooting at a paper target to see if you get two fragments per shot?
  14. I just had a septic system done in Otsego county a month ago. The cost was $6500 plus $450 for the engineers drawings.
  15. I work on the East End and passed three fresh roadkills on my way to work this morning. Seems the chasing may have started.
  16. Got this six pointer Saturday morning at 11am. Drove through the night from Long Island for a one-day hunt. Had a doe come right to me at 7:30, passed. Saw a few more deer in the distance around 9am; and a bunch of turkeys. Then, this guy came up the main trail headed toward the corn. If he turns left, he'll come right to me. He turns right. I let an arrow go and miss low- I guessed 30 yards, he was 36. He jumps into the hedge row and mills around for a few minutes. He then crosses the main trail and heads in my direction along a rub line I'm set up over. I knocked another arrow. He gives me a broadside chance at about 30 yards and I let it fly. Felt like a good shot. But, the deer doesn't react at all. He stood still for a few seconds. At this point, I'm confused. I was pretty sure I made a decent shot. He starts to turn back and head slowly down the ridge. I knock a third arrow and notice his rear end starts to dip a bit- not sure if he was gonna pee in a scrape or just tip over. He gives me a quartering away shot at 40 yards and I let the arrow fly. WHAM, the arrow sticks in the back shoulder and the deer jumps in the air. Waited a few minutes and tracked him about 75 yards and jump him- find a pool of blood and my second bloody arrow. Back out and wait another half hour, track another 75 yards and find him piled up. Best part was that he ran almost directly back to my truck. Never heard of a deer sticking around to take a second arrow. This was only my third time hunting my new land and I couldn't be more thrilled with the action so far. Turns out that the first arrow was a decent hit, just a few inches back. The second shot stuck in the back shoulder and was laying in the blood pool at the spot where I jumped him.
  17. The property has been leased. I appreciate all the interest.
  18. Not sure of the brand, but i got mine at Costco years ago and it's still working fine. And, Costco has a very liberal (bad word) return policy- they take anything back, pretty much no questions asked. So, if you ever have a problem, you just bring it back.
  19. Yankee and Antlers, are you guys on private land or public?
  20. I've done it in the oven and it comes out fantastic. I've done it with venison and duck breasts. Slice your meat very thin- pound it thin if you want. Marinate it however you like. Then, spread the slices onto a wire rack set over a baking sheet in the oven at 175 degrees for about 6-9 hours. Make sure the edges of the meat are not touching each other. Check on it as you get past the 6 hour mark to be sure that it's not getting too dry. It's honestly really easy and it's the best jerkey I've ever had.
  21. The issue is getting permission to retrieve your deer from neighboring properties. That can be tough because there are a lot of anti-hunters on the East End, and a lot of those properties are vacant this time of year, so getting permissioin can be tough.
  22. Congrats. Glad it ended well.
  23. Is there any chance that the Massachusetts case was an accidental discharge of a crossbow? Otherwise, I can't imagine how you could hit a target with an arrow from a regular bow and not know what you were shooting at.
  24. Just wanted to bump this thread. Had a deal that fell through.
  25. Heating oil is coming down as well. Two months ago, I tried to get a locked-in rate for 3.29 and Slomins refused- they wouldn't go any lower than 3.39. I paid 3.15 per gallon for a fill up a week and a half ago from a discount oil company. Then, last weekend Slomins had a rep knocking on doors in my neighborhood offering a 3.14 lock-in rate. The day rate price has fallen to 2.97 as of today.
